December 2018 North River Co. Jewelry Box Review

This is my first month of North River Co. and I'm really excited to see what beautiful handmade jewelry will be included. I also have a growing collection of gemstones, so I'm happy to have one included in each box. Let's see what's included:

card front candies

Each month, a few traditional maple candies are included. They are very mapley and delicious. A "thank you" card is also included.

Gemstone Soap

No, this is not the gemstone. This is soap! Isn't it gorgeous?! This palm-sized gemstone soap looks like rose quartz with its striations of pink, white, and gold. The ingredients are pleasantly simple and the scent is clean. I feel bad using it because it's so pretty!

Natural Soy Wax Candles

These textured, conical candles don't come with any information, but I assume they are the soy wax candles that are typically included. The texture and wrapped shape are beautiful, but I'm not really sure how to use them. Who uses this type of candle and can tell me? I can't smell any specific scent except for that of natural wax.

Amethyst

Amethyst is such a powerhouse stone. And, it was my introduction to gemstones many years ago. I became fascinated with it when my family went "panning" for gems at one of those little set-ups in the mountains of Tennesee. It's known to clear negative energy and create a barrier against stress and unhealthy environmental influences.

Recycled Silver Bar Necklace

The jewelry piece this month is a simple, silver bar necklace with a leaf print texture applied to the front side. The back has a matte texture so it looks nice even when the bar turns while wearing it. I love the idea that all of the silver that North River Co. uses is recycled and worked by hand. This length is perfect for wearing every day and is adjustable with a 3" extender. It also looks great stacked with other silver jewelry.

Verdict: So far, I'm a fan of North River Co. Their presentation and packaging are beautifully coordinated and I love the handmade feel of the stamped paper and neutral colors. I think that the structure of including a set list of items each month is interesting and really speaks to certain subscribers. For me, the handmade, recycled silver jewelry is exciting and the inclusion of a beautiful gemstone soap, a candle, and an actual gem is all a bonus.

Any spoilers for the February box?

I am really impressed with this box but I do not wear silver toned jewelry. Might subscribe to a few to get daughter & daughter in law jewelry gifts and I keep all the rest!!! Yeah.

The conical candles were very popular years ago and everyone had candle holders that they would fit in. I rarely burned mine—just used for looks and to add a little color to the room. They also come in handy when the power goes out. Between hurricanes, ice storms (we don’t know what snow looks like) wind shear (sp?) and transformers that need replacing they get used a lot where I live.

Oh what a lovely looking box. I’m going to look into the earring sub!

The candles just need to be separated and the wick trimmed down, put in a candle holder and you’ve got some lovely candles! I used to buy those all the time at local art shows.

Yes!! I’ve been looking at this box for months and was hoping it would get reviewed here eventually!! I love handmade items and so I think the value is definitely there, just needed someone else to take the leap first. Thanks for reviewing!

I really want to try this out. Do they ever do coupons? Do they post spoilers before they charge you?

For the candles you cut the wick joining them and trim to proper size.

Great review, love the look of the soap, too pretty to want to use! ☺
