My Fashion Crate February 2019 Review

They always include an insert with descriptions of the items and their value. The front side lists everything you will receive in the Essentials box while the back also shows what you get in the Premium box and they include pictures which I always appreciate.

Delicate Ivory Floral Blouse by Loveriche, Size L - Listed Value $45

This top is nice and silky and features some beautiful, intricate florals. I love the colors and think it is a great choice heading into spring. It features a short ruffled collar at the neckline with strings to tie it closed and the buttons have loop fasteners which you can see if you look closely at the last picture. The sleeves are a little bit of a bell sleeve so they are nice and airy.

It was definitely a bit tight at the bust and gaping in between the buttons, so I think I like this open look a bit better.

Cute Heart Ankle Socks - Listed Value $3.50

How cute are these socks? I love that they have the little heart detail on the heel, which also serves to provide a little extra cushioning. While they did just send socks last month, these are very different and make for an adorable fashion choice in a February box!

Kanio Love Bracelet - Retail Value $24

This is the second time I have received a Kanio bracelet from this subscription, but the one from the September box was blue and had a different meaning. This Love bracelet is made of 100% genuine Rose Quartz beads which is also called the Heart Stone, a stone of love, tenderness and sensuality. They sent it as a reminder to "love yourself and hold your loved ones dear and close," which is a nice sentiment! I like the simple, casual design and the fact that it has two adjustable settings.

It fits nicely and is a fun accessory that fits in well with the rest of the items in our box this month!

They also sent a coupon for $7 off at their shop.

Mai Couture Rose Hip Oil Blotting Papers - Retail Value $10

I love the design of this set of blotting papers- from the marbled cover to the rose pink sheets. They are much fancier looking than the old blue ones we used to gross each other out with when I was a teen! In addition to removing dirt, oil and excess shine, these also contain rosehip oil that can actually improve your skin. There are 60 sheets here that won't disturb your makeup but instead will fight those free radicals that can cause aging. Who knew these little sheets could be so powerful?

Trifle Cosmetics Magic Frosting Liquid Gleam - Retail Value $17

The next beautiful pink toned item we received this month were these Liquid Gleam drops from Trifle Cosmetics that contain blueberry and plum extracts to keep your skin firm and supple. I love that they are an ingredient-conscious brand and the packaging is so fun. I had high hopes for this Magic Frosting, but when I opened it up, I was disappointed to find that mine was quite dried out and not anywhere near a liquid consistency capable of producing drops.

The color itself was beautiful, a nice shimmery pink and I was able to swatch a bit on my arm, but you can see the glass dropper was clogged with product.

First I cleaned out the dropper as best as I could but I wasn't able to get it all out despite using hot water. You can see how thick it is in that center picture. I then added a little warm water to try and give it a more liquid consistency, but it did not mix at all. The top drop on the right above my swatch is after mixing and you can see the formula did not mix with the water at all.

Here are both swatches rubbed in. The top, with a little bit of water, made no difference in the consistency. It still gave quite a pretty shimmer, but it might just be too concentrated at this point to use for a subtle makeup look like I was planning. We reached out to customer service and they assured us that a subscriber would be taken care of right away if this happened to them by either sending them a new product or offering them something else if that particular item was unavailable.

The following items are only in the Premium Box:

Softest Mauve Scarf from Ciel Collection - Listed Value $48

This mauve scarf is incredibly soft and such a great color for the spring! It features a nice short fringe at the end to complete the look and is very lightweight. While it is nice and very soft, I definitely feel like this retail value is pretty inflated for a thin scarf that is 100% acrylic.

It is a nice shorter length making it easy to throw on and style!

Mai Couture Passport Holder in Gold - Retail Value $18

I really wish that I had a reason to need a passport holder at the moment! Subscribers could have received this in gold, silver, or rose gold and it is nicely made and should hold a little bit extra in addition to your passport.

It features flaps that will hold your passport open if you choose or you can simply stuff your passport in one side and other items on the other. The elastic strap will ensure it stays closed and everything is contained.

I love that they recommend storing your Rose Hip oil papers inside which gives you a reason to keep this cute holder stashed in your purse! Mai Couture actually makes other makeup papers that you can use to touch up your makeup on the go essentially turning this holder into a makeup case. How cool! I would love to see some of those in a future box!

Verdict: I loved the shades of pink in the curation this month from My Fashion Crate and as usual, I think there was a good mix of fashionable and useful items. The passport holder and blotting papers were such a unique blend of both fashion and beauty and a fun inclusion in the box. I love the socks and the Kanio bracelet suits my casual jewelry style. I think the scarf and floral blouse were nice and if the Trifle drops had been in better shape, I'm sure I would have loved them as well! This is definitely a fun subscription and while the scarf cost felt a bit inflated to me, you are still paying an average of $7.84 for each of the 7 items at $54.90 for this box, which is more than fair!

The total for the Premium box comes to $165.50 this month, which is a great value for a $54.90 ($49.95 + $4.95 shipping) box. As for the Essentials box, the value is $99.50 which is still awesome for a $39.95 ($35 + $4.95 shipping) box. When comparing the two subscriptions, for $14.95 extra for the Premium box we received the passport holder and the scarf valued at $66.

This blouse is sized so poorly. I would gladly mail it to someone who could use it. I ordered a L but it’s tight across my chest and I can’t lift my arms. Was my first and last sub from them. Very underwhelmed.

Update: The company reached out to and offered a new shirt. I’m looking forward to receiving it. Kudos to their customer service department!! I might just subscribe again.

That highlighter isn’t dried out, that’s just the way they are. I know, it’s a weird applicator for such a thick product. You just have to use it sparingly.

On another note, that blouse is very pretty except from behind it looks like it has an extra set of sleeves. Other than that, you look lovely and feminine in it. I struggle to find clothes that make me look feminine because I have broad shoulders. I would love to wear dainty, pretty things. It’s an insecurity of mine. Lucky!

I actually like this box, the blouse looks so good on you! Scarf is cute but def seems inflated, I would get good use out of the passport holder and I do like they suggested you put the blotting papers in there. Not so bad a curation.

That top likks super cute on you. I didn’t notice it was snug in the bust until you mentioned it and I zoomed in. I wonder if you could tie it at the neck but not button it so you have the whole keyhole thing going on? Just a thought. As far as the drops, I’ve had that happen with that brand too, and I added a mixing medium and a couple drops of facial oil and it helped, bit I didn’t use the applicator that came with it.
I just feel like so many of these subscription boxes don’t put a lot of thought into what they put in. It feels almost as if they’ve scramble to just put anything in there. I mean, this wasn’t terrible, but I also don’t feel it was at all worth the money, in my opinion, and I don’t like when I sense that the retail prices they list are not honest of accurate. I don’t know, I just think they could do so much better and with just a tiny bit more effort, could put some really unique items in their boxes. I use to subscribe to more than 6 or 7 boxes at a time when I had my “problem” lol but I just have one now. Im not trying to be negative, I just find that most of them are overall a little disappointing and under the value they came to be. Am I alone in this? Sorry for the novel!!!

I think that shirt is super, super cute! I’ve been looking for blotting papers like these (that don’t have setting powder, but absorb excess face oil.) I’m checking out the brand now!

What I think is more laughable is the way you manage to insult someone every time you come here to comment.

I’ve been reading through MSA’s reviews for years, and very very rarely comment. That blouse may be my fave piece of clothing I’ve ever seen in a box.

I received this box. I don’t have the premium subscription. Of the fashion boxes I’ve tried I find that what they send is more useful for me and a better price point. You do need to size up at least one size and I often end up altering the tops myself – this one was really wide at the bottom. But I love the mix and i really liked the print on this top

Nina

Well that’s your usually negative opinion Jane. I think the blouses were both really cute and the scarf actually looks quality as well.

Jessica

I agree with Nina, about Janes negative opinion and the blouses. I think the scarf would be a cute chair throw for spring as well, or even to cover a throw pillow like Liz showed with the turkish towels.

Lee

Not that you should have to, but adding a few drops of some kind of facial oil probably would of helped restore the highlighter.

That’s a good idea! I’ll try that next! Thanks, Lee! 🙂

I’ve gotten those gleam liquid things before from Trifle. The product itself is really nice, but the applicator just sucks. Just put a tiny bit on your pinky or ring finger.
