Lola Beauty Box December 2018 Review

This month features makeup and skincare items. There is also an extra item which I think is a replacement for a broken product in the past. Let’s check it out:

Each box comes with a card detailing the brands and items included along with the prices and websites for each. This month’s theme is “It's The Most Wonderful Time of The Year.”

Beauty Creations Esmerelda 2 Palette - Retail Value $11.99

I've now had the opportunity to try several eyeshadow palettes from Beauty Creations. For being so affordable, they offer impressive pigment. This 15-shade palette has a mix of matte, shimmer, and metallic finishes in a shade range from neutral to bold. They all have slightly different textures, but for the most part are soft, silky, and powdery. They're easy to blend but I do have to watch for fall out, especially with the more metallic ones. The only one that doesn't perform well is the dark grey in the middle row; it's pretty chalky and hard to pick up. I like this style of palette since it's slim and stays closed when traveling.

I love the emerald metallic and the purple duo-chrome! I'm also a huge fan of having a matte base and transition shade included.

Mint Pear Beauty Limited Edition Pink M64 Rounded Soft Blend Brush - Retail Value $24

This brush looks like an oversized fluffy eyeshadow blender but is meant for precise application of powders for the face. I've used it to set my undereye area with powder and to blend out highlight. But, my favorite use is to apply a wash of color over my whole lid at once. The synthetic bristles are soft and tapered just enough to work into tight areas.

Real Her Be Brave Gorgeous Metallic Liquid Lipstick - Retail Value $21

I love metallic lips – when they're done right – and have noticed them becoming more popular. This is a really nice formula; it's lightweight but opaque and dries down to a soft, long-lasting finish. Be Brave looks more pink on the website than it truly is; the color is much more of a coral-rose when applied. I notice my lips get a very dry feeling after a couple of hours, but a swipe of balm helps. When this color does start to fade, it does so evenly and without coming off in chunks. You can even apply a touch-up coat if needed without issues. (Swatched below)

Ecco Bella Natural Soft Eyeliner Pencil in Royal Blue - Retail Value $17.95

Though I love the matte navy color of this liner, I'm not crazy about the formula. It's pretty stiff so warming it on the back of my hand helps prevent tugging as a line my lids. I can easily smudge it for a softer look but it also tends to wear off over the course of the day.

Eslor Chlorophyll Lifting Mask - Retail Value $20

I love masks that get really tight when they dry and this one does just that. The green slimy gel smoothes on into a thin layer and feels super soothing and cold. It makes sense since the first ingredient is aloe vera gel. After about 10 minutes, it dries down completely and leaves my skin feeling tight and crinkly. After rinsing, I still feel a tightening effect, my skin tone is even, and redness is gone.

Bang Beauty Blush in Daring - Retail Value $20 (I'm not counting this toward the total value since I think it is a replacement)

So, I think this is a replacement for the broken blushes many subscribers received in their October boxes. Mine wasn't broken, but I'm glad to see they are trying to correct the issue. In November, I had two broken items so I'm wondering if I'll receive replacements for those eventually.

Here are swatches of the blush, metalic liquid lip, and eyeliner.

I created two looks this month since there were so many things to try. This first look is light and easy. I used some of the lighter pinks and browns in the eyeshadow palette for a bit of color on my lid and lined my eyes with the navy eyeliner pencil. I'm also wearing the blush and liquid lip.

My second look is darker and bolder. This time, I used several of the eyeshadow shades to build up a dark, deep crease. I used my fingertips to pat the metallic copper shade onto the inner half of my lid and the metallic green on the outer half. Again, I'm wearing the liquid lip, but this time I've layered it over a dark lip liner.

The Verdict: Lola Beauty Box has had some issues for the past few months with broken products. Thankfully, this month everything arrived in great shape. I appreciate the replacement blush and hopefully, it means they are working on making up for the problems. As promised, all of the items are full size and the retail value exceeds $70. I'm enjoying all of my products this month and I'm actually interested in trying more liquid lipsticks from Real Her now.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? If you sign up today, your first box will be the February box.

Value Breakdown: The box cost $21.00 (with free shipping), and I estimate that this box had $94.94 in value. The cost of each item breaks down to the following:

  • BC Eyeshadow Palette - $2.65
  • Mint Pear Brush - $5.31
  • Real Her Liquid Lip - $4.65
  • Ecco Bella Eyeliner - $3.97
  • Eslor Mask - $4.42

DO you have a breakdown of what was supposed to be in the January box. Mine did not have a card detailing the items we got in the box and in the email we received in December it said we were supposed to get 6 items in December and January. I only got 5 items in my January box, one of which was a Juice Beauty apple cleansing bar, which was a 3 time repeat for me. I emailed customer service and did not get an answer back. Also my masks from November arrived damaged and I emailed them, and they said replacements went out but they had no tracking information on them and never received a replacement. So now I am left wondering what item I am missing from the January box. February looks like it is a good box, it seems that they have a hit box and then a miss box. However, I am finding it hard to deal with customer service with issues or questions. Can you please post what you got in the January box so I can figure out my next steps in dealing with them. It would be much appreciated. I received the Juice beauty green apple cleansing bar, Pure Cosmetics three Dimensional Fiber Lash Mascara System, Brilliantly Bronzed Eye shadow / Bronzer Palette by Measurable Difference, NCLA Nail Polish, and a Travel sized crease brush by Bang Beauty. Since I had gotten the Juice Beauty green apple cleansing bar twice before I am thinking I am missing a full sized item but have no way of knowing since there was no description card in the box.
