A Little Touch of Magick January 2019 Review

I am still fairly new to reviewing this subscription and was excited to see what they had in store:

The box came with this information card listing the items and retail values. Since the items were unbranded, I used these values when writing the review.

A Little Touch Of Magick January 2019 - Story Front View

Most of the time, the story comes in a little booklet like this. They vary quite a lot in length and theme. This one has a “tree of life” theme and isn’t as dark as usual.

A Little Touch Of Magick January 2019 - Tree Of Life Card Top View

Tree of Life Card – Listed Value $4

You’ll usually get a few note cards or a blank card with this subscription, or some other kind of small stationery item. It’s a great way to build up a collection of cards without accumulating too many. This has some nice artwork and is suitable for any number of occasions.

A Little Touch Of Magick January 2019 - Owl Earrings Top 1 A Little Touch Of Magick January 2019 - Owl Earrings Top 2

Owl Earrings – Listed Value $25

Two different styles of earrings were possible but I received these owls. (The one on the right is not dirty, that’s a reflection.) These have the look of being laser cut. Owls are kind of trendy in jewelry right now and these are super lightweight. I don’t know what metal the hooks are but I can either replace them with niobium or titanium or just paint them with clear nail polish since I have sensitive ears.

Red Knit Headband – Listed Value $14

This item is mentioned in the story, it’s not a prominent part but it definitely is there. This is super soft and a bit stretchy so it should fit different head sizes. I have been putting this on to cover up my ears when I go to walk Nyx as it is a little colder than usual and it is pretty good for that.

Tree of Life Box – Listed Value $14

I have a small collection of trinket boxes made from different materials but I don’t think I have any lacquered ones like this. I should really collect them all and put them on display somewhere. Anyway, this has a very nice finish and looks well-made.

A Little Touch Of Magick January 2019 - Crescent Moon Necklace Top View A Little Touch Of Magick January 2019 - Crescent Moon Necklace Front View

Crescent Moon Necklace – Listed Value $40

This necklace is actually quite long, but I don’t have a necklace model suitable for showing the lengths of necklaces (you can kind of get an idea in the picture up above of all the items together). I have a number of solid colored sweaters and dresses this would work well with, and it’s long enough that you could layer it with a few other necklaces.

A Little Touch Of Magick January 2019 - Embroidered Tree Of Life Purse Top View A Little Touch Of Magick January 2019 - Embroidered Tree Of Life Purse Open Top 1 A Little Touch Of Magick January 2019 - Embroidered Tree Of Life Purse Open Top 2

Embroidered Tree of Life Purse – Listed Value $30

You’ll get a fair number of totes, purses, and bags in this subscription but they are all a little different from one another so they don’t feel repetitive. This one is on the smaller side although it has a long, wide strap that makes it comfortable to carry. It’s probably too small to be a day-to-day purse for me but would be good for weekend errands or anytime I just need to take a few things along. This one ties into the story theme nicely, too.

A Little Touch Of Magick January 2019 - Winter Woods Bath Soak Top View

Winter Woods Bath Soak – Listed Value $12

I’m not sure what “sparkling icicle” in the ingredients list is, but this is a nice wintry, spicy bath salt scent. I rarely have time to take a full bath but I do try to soak my feet for a while every day, and I like to add bath salts to my foot bath. I never notice a huge difference in the softness of my feet after changing bath salts, but I can say for sure that I like the smell and it has not irritated my skin, and that’s a great start.

VerdictI calculated a total value of about $139 for the January 2019 A Little Touch of Magick. Granted, I did have to use all values from the information card, but that is more than double the cost of the subscription plus shipping on a month-to-month basis. Even if you think one or two values from the card are a little high, you are still getting (easily) $100+ in merchandise. Everything is sized in a way that will work for different body types, too.

I also think there is something to be said for curation here. Opening this box isn’t just about the items (which were all lovely), but there is also an element of experience here, helped along by the story. I can tell that a great deal of thought has been put into it, from sourcing the items on down to the careful packaging. It was easy to see how the items fit the story this month, too, but there was also just a nice forest theme running through everything, from the colors to the artwork to the items, themselves.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? This was the January box. Your first box would come in February or March, depending on the time of the month you subscribe and whether they have inventory left. It sounds like they ship out throughout the month as orders come in, so if you are interested, definitely contact them ASAP.

This seems like a nice box. Love the necklace even though it is silvertone. I would take a t-shirt made like the tote.

I am pretty sure the colors for the necklace were random and that some people got rose gold or gold. (I don’t have a strong preference in that area so silver is fine with me.)

Lovely curation!

Ragan, Have you tried Jewelry Spray by Alchemy? It’s a bit pricey, but it works better than clear nail polish for me. I bought mine from The Grommet.

Anyway, one day I’ll have to get this box. The curation is always so thoughtful.

I think most of those products sold specifically for jewelry have basically the same ingredients as clear nail polish and you’re paying for packaging. Or at least, that’s been my experience.
