Cat Lady Box February 2019 "Meowlentine’s Day" Review

Cat Lady Box is always full of fun, cat-themed lifestyle items. Let’s see what was in store for February:

I love how the information cards have custom artwork every month. And the back has more information about the items in the box. There was also a coupon good for past box items in the Cat Lady Box store.

Cat Eyeshadow Palettes – Listed Value $19.98 ($9.99 each)

Subscribers received two of four possible eyeshadow palettes. I got the “calico” one and the “ginger” one, or as I like to refer to them, the “Sneaky” palette and the “Mr. Kitty” palette. There wasn’t really any fallout when I tried these (your mileage may vary) and they were pretty long-lasting over primer. They also didn’t irritate my eyes. I’ve been seeing a lot of palettes with warm earth tones and oranges in the last year so I guess these colors are on trend (though I fully admit to not being on top of current trends). You can buy the two palettes you didn’t receive in the Cat Lady Box shop, eventually, but they are not there as of the time I am writing this review.

Note: These are made in China. I know some people avoid cosmetics from there, so I felt it was appropriate to point out.

There was a card demonstrating some of the looks you can create using these shades.

And here are some swatches. “Calico” shades are on top, roughly from light to dark, and “ginger” shades are on the bottom.

Heart Wand Toy – Listed Value $5.99

Since I get the “crazy” cat lady version of the box, I receive two cat toys each month. The first was this wand, which was especially popular with Sneaky and Angus (although Sneaky wanted to play with the wrong end…).

Catnip Donut Heart – Listed Value $5.99

This is the second toy, a catnip plush. It’s super soft and I’d call it medium-sized. My older boys liked cuddling with it. I suspect Angus will be tossing it around at night (we let him roam the house because he is energetic and keeps us up if we don’t).

Kitty Cat Tweezers – Listed Value $8.99

These are cute, and a useful item to have. I have a lot of tweezers in the bathroom already so I may use these with my beading supplies instead. (Tweezers can be super useful for picking up one small bead out of a mix, for example, or for manipulating items I’m trying to superglue, without supergluing my fingers together.)

Kitty Cat Highball Glasses – Listed Value $19.99

This was a spoiler item for the month. The style is similar to some of the other drinkware we’ve received from Cat Lady Box in the past and if I ever have a cabinet to display glassware, these will feature prominently (right now it is all in a cupboard). These do need to be hand-washed. We don’t drink alcohol but they are perfectly acceptable for juice, tea, or soda as well.

Picture time:

Angus really likes wand toys.

Madison poses with the heart toy.

Monkey just wanted to rub his face on everything.

Sneaky actually grabbed the wand with her paws and pulled it around to bite the end.

Oh, Mr. Kitty. You don’t have any idea what is going on right now, do you? (He is almost completely blind in the eye he has remaining.)

Verdict: I calculated a value of $60.94 for the February 2019 (Crazy) Cat Lady Box. That is not the highest value ever for this box, but I feel it is appropriate for the items received. I liked everything and my cats enjoyed the toys so this was a good month for us. (Your mileage may vary, especially if you don’t wear eyeshadow or avoid cosmetics made in China, but even without the palettes, you are just about breaking even in terms of value.)

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Officially your subscription would start with March’s box, but way back when I signed up, I was contacted to say there were a few of the current month’s box left over and asked if I’d like one of those.  So it may be worth inquiring.

LIMITED TIME DEAL: Now through 2/22, use coupon code LOVEKITTIES to save 20% off your first Crazy Cat Lady box! (Regularly $39.99 a box)

Value Breakdown: At a price of $39.99 for this box, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Palettes $13.11
  • Wand toy $3.93
  • Donut toy $3.93
  • Tweezers $5.90
  • Glasses $13.12

So nice to see Mr Kitty playing! Poor guy has had his issues.

Ragan

Does he ever. We spent most of this morning at the vet’s office because he hasn’t been eating. Suspected causes include diabetes complications (we’ve got our directions there and I’m doing a glucose curve on Sunday to evaluate his insulin dose), overmedication, and pancreatitis (the last two to be evaluated pending the outcome of some bloodwork we had sent out).

He tried to make a run for it in the vet’s office, went from one exam room through the other and out into the reception area. He was surprisingly fast for an old, blind cat who didn’t know where he was. He was also so loud with the growling that I think they could hear him in the next town.

Then he peed in the pet carrier on the way home and also managed to scratch the skin around his eye until he bled even though he was wearing an e-collar. But, he ate his most recent meal on his own (no force feeding this time, yay, that’s not fun for either one of us) and he is sleeping peacefully next to me right now and we will get this all figured out. We’ve had a lot of rough spots but he’s always managed to pull through before.
