Cat Claws Club is a bimonthly subscription box for cats filled with lots of toys, treats, and other surprises. (They just use whatever box will fit the items, so it varies from month to month, hence the odd photo location, but it allows for some unusual item shapes, which can be fun!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Cat Claws Club February 2019 Review

This subscription is pretty heavy on the toys and is often, but not always, holiday-themed. This is also one of the only cat subscriptions where you get scratch pads regularly. Let’s see what was in the box this month:

There’s usually a booklet with more information on the items. This month had a Valentine’s Day theme. There was also a card asking you to share on social media.

Foldable Tote – Retail Value $2.68

This didn’t have a brand name and I’m honestly kind of surprised I managed to find what appears to be the same exact item online.  (It is currently variation #3 on the site I linked to) ships directly from China.) It seems well made and doesn’t have a chemical smell so it will get used for Target runs and such.  This wasn’t in the information booklet and may be the bonus item for sharing on social media.

Go Cat Fur Pong – Retail Value $2.99

Cat Claws included this item to celebrate the arrival of the Go Cat brand in their shop. We’ve had lots of Go Cat toys in other subscription boxes and they’re always hits. Mr. Kitty BIT this which is the most interest he’s shown in a toy for a very long time.

Heartstrings Refillable Catnip Toy – Retail Value $3.99

This also included a packet of catnip to put in the toy (several outer designs are possible, by the way). Monkey mostly licked the catnip although the other cats were super into the ribbons (which are securely attached, by the way).

Kiss Lip Pillow – Estimated Value $4

This was exclusive to the box so I can’t find it anywhere online, although here is a kind of similar toy that I used to help estimate a value. It’s a catnip plush and Madison was actually most interested in this one.He spent a lot of time investigating it. (It also looks nice against his black fur!)

Expandable Play Tunnel – Estimated Value $10

There are about 1000 different variations of these online but here is the one I used for a value estimate because it looks like it’s about the same length and it has a couple of dangling toys. This is crinkly so I have put it in the office where we will not hear it at night. Only two cats could figure out to do with this and you might be surprised who one of them is (pictures below).

Petkin Kitty Wipes – Retail Value $7.95

This is actually a useful item for me. Mr. Kitty is still in an e-collar most of the time and can’t groom himself, and sometimes I have to syringe feed him, which is messy, so every day, we wipe him down to keep him kind of clean. We also try to wipe off his feet before we poke them with the lancet to do blood sugar readings. I haven’t opened them yet because I don’t want them to dry out and we have another package of wipes open at the moment, but we have received some from other cat subscription boxes in the past and they’ve been pretty good.

And now the cat photos you were waiting for:

Angus was hiding behind the couch because Nyx was on the prowl (she’s nice to the kitties, she just always wants to get the cat toys).

Angus was the first cat to figure out the tunnel.

Here’s Madison with a few of the toys. Later on, he also played with the lips pillow a lot, but I’d put the camera away by then.

Monkey wanted to chew on the ribbons and rub his face on things. You can see his tongue in the first picture.

Monkey and Sneaky did not understand the tunnel.

Sneaky kept waiting for treats that weren’t there, but at least she showed some interest in some of the toys as well.

The second cat who understood the tunnel was Mr. Kitty! I couldn’t believe it. Although it might’ve been an accident because it was in his way and he can’t see where he’s going. Although I have another, longer tunnel that he used to hide in all the time so he does have a history of liking these.

He also bit the fur on this toy. Good for him. That’s the most interest he’s shown in a toy in ages.

Verdict: I calculated a total value of $31.61 for Cat Claws Club this month, although do keep in mind that some of the values are estimates so it could be a little bit higher. Although this is a little bit below the month-to-month cost of the box plus shipping, you come out ahead other months, and I think the value averages out over time. The toys and tunnel were big hits, I will use the tote, and the wipes are something I would’ve bought anyway, so everything was useful to us.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?  No, Cat Claws Club ships once every other month. Your first box would be April’s box if you signed up now.  (But, many of the items are available for individual purchase from CatClaws.com.)

Value Breakdown: This box costs $33.90 (subscription plus shipping) so you are paying about the following for each item:

  • Tote $2.87
  • Fur pong $3.21
  • Heart toy $4.28
  • Pillow toy $4.29
  • Tunnel $10.72
  • Wipes $8.53

Getting Mr. Kitty in on the action was worth the cost of the box alone!

Go Mr. Kitty!! I’m really happy that he bit on the toy as well as went through the tunnel. It took a while for my one cat to learn how to use the tunnel, following and watching the other one.
this looks like a good box, things that are not carried in some of the other subscription boxes.
