All Around Vegan February 2019 Review

All Around Vegan is a fairly new box for me. Let’s see what they sent this month:

All Around Vegan February 2019 - Booklet Front All Around Vegan February 2019 - Booklet Back All Around Vegan February 2019 - Vive Coupon All Around Vegan February 2019 - Sea Witch 1 All Around Vegan February 2019 - Sea Witch 2

There was a standard information card with more details about the items in the box, including how they fit the categories nutrition, lifestyle, bath/body, and activism. Sometimes there is product literature as well.

All Around Vegan February 2019 - Chocolate 1 All Around Vegan February 2019 - Chocolate 2

Blake’s Seed-Based Chocolate Chip Snack Bar (1.41 oz) – Buy a Box of 12 for $26.99

These bars are made without the 8 major allergens (two of which are dairy and eggs, hence these being vegan, plus they are sweetened with evaporated cane juice, brown rice syrup, and cane sugar, so no honey) and are produced in a dedicated facility so no worries if you have a multi-allergen household. The *do* taste like they are good for you (and are much lower in sugar than I would expect plus they are high in fiber) and have a bit of a rustic texture, but they are not bad for seed bars, to be honest. The chocolate ones were the best, in my opinion.

All Around Vegan February 2019 - Pineapple 1 All Around Vegan February 2019 - Pineapple 2

Blake’s Seed-Based Pineapple Snack Bar (1.23 oz) – Buy a Box of 12 for $26.99

I have had this one before from another box although I cannot remember which one. Anyway, these, like the chocolate ones, are free of the top 8 allergens. The pineapple flavor is definitely evident (and good) but I think the reason I preferred the chocolate ones was because the chocolate modified the texture of the seeds a little bit.  Still a good way to get more seeds in your diet if you are looking to do that.

All Around Vegan February 2019 - Raspberry 1 All Around Vegan February 2019 - Raspberry 2

Blake’s Seed-Based Raspberry Snack Bar (1.23 oz) – Buy a Box of 12 for $26.99

I felt like the raspberry was definitely raspberry here, and not a generic fruity flavor, so they get bonus points for that. This one otherwise had a lot in common with the pineapple bar. I do appreciate getting three flavors to try because if one doesn’t work for you, one of the others might.

All Around Vegan February 2019 - Magnet 1 All Around Vegan February 2019 - Magnet 2

“Vegan for the Animals” Magnet – Retail Value $3

This is the activism item for the month.  It’s nice to get a magnet instead of a sticker because you won’t ruin your car’s finish if you decide to put it there. And as a means of sharing a message, including potentially with people you don’t know very well, it’s tasteful and not pushy.

All Around Vegan February 2019 - Balm 1 All Around Vegan February 2019 - Balm 2

Sea Witch Botanicals Vegan Lip Balm (cocoa and avocado, 11g) – Retail Value $8 (found here for $6)

This is a new brand for me. At first, I was kind of bummed about getting a lip balm that you have to stick your finger in, but I realized that if you are making an attempt to get away from using plastic and be more sustainable (as this brand is), this is pretty much what you have to do. This smells subtly of chocolate and it is pretty moisturizing.

All Around Vegan February 2019 - Bites 1 All Around Vegan February 2019 - Bites 2

Vive Vanilla Almond Coconut Soft-Baked Granola Bites (1.6 oz) – Retail Value $3

These make for a much easier way to eat granola (no spoons or tipping directly into your mouth required), which is great for travel (or hiking, as they suggest). They have a good texture and don’t fall apart too easily, and I am already a fan of vanilla, almond, and coconut flavors, so I liked these. They’re lower in sugar than you would expect, as well, but they still taste sweet.

All Around Vegan February 2019 - Cookie 1 All Around Vegan February 2019 - Cookie 2

Vegan Original Gezellig Cookies (34g x 2) – Buy a Box of 16 for $25

Non-vegan stroopwafels have eggs, and sometimes have dairy and honey as ingredients. This is an attempt to make a stroopwafel that is vegan. I believe that the cookie part works quite well, but the inner syrup is harder to duplicate, and it is not *quite* right. But it is very close.

All Around Vegan February 2019 - Shirt

Vegan Print T-Shirt

This is custom for All Around Vegan (as far as I know; a quick check in Google images did not reveal this design) but it is not in their shop.  Anyway, this is the lifestyle item for the month and obliquely relates to Valentine’s Day, I suppose. You’ll get some t-shirts in this box, but not every single month, so you won’t become overrun with them. I was in need of new t-shirts anyway, as some of mine were so old they had holes, so this comes at a good time.

Verdict: I did not calculate a value for All Around Vegan this month because many of the food items were not available for individual purchase.  This subscription costs $42.45 (with shipping) and there were eight items, giving an average price of about $5.30 each. Obviously, some of the food items don’t cost that much, but the lip balm is more than that, and the shirt is probably easily 3-4 times that much in value, so I think it all averages out.  The food in this box is always good and usually new to me, and I have to say, the enthusiasm on the information card when the box curators are talking about the items is great as well.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up now, you’ll get the March box (ships March 1) as your first box.

Value Breakdown: At $42.45 for this box (subscription cost plus shipping), the average per-item cost is $5.30.

Nice review, Ragan!
I like how you view things scientifically in a logical & practical way!
It would be great if you can make a list of vegan sub boxes!

In the subscription box directory on this site, there are actually “vegan” categories in both beauty and food. (I’m not posting links so the comment shows up sooner, but look for beauty and food in the drop-down menus up top, and then “vegan” in the sub-menus on the left side.)
