Yes, Oh Yas! December 2018 Review

This month includes products from all different categories. Let's see what we can do with them!

I didn't receive an info card in my package this month but I found an image of it on Instagram. Just a note: I found some discrepancies between the values listed online and on this card. I included the current retail value of the individual products online (if I could find it on the respective brand's site) for you below. Here's what YOY says about their listed values:

What is the retail value and how is it calculated?

Yes, Oh Yas subscription retail value is based ONLY on original retail pricing of the items included for the month. Retail value prices are given to us by the company partners of the month and does not reflect price reductions, sale, or clearance. Original retail value pricing may not be displayed on the company's website. Retail value pricing are subject to change and Yes, Oh Yas has no control over decisions made by the company partners of the month.

lip mask front lip mask back

MaskerAide Hydrating Lip Mask in Tell Me 'Pout It - Estimated Value $2.63 (Buy 2 masks for $5.25 USD), Listed Value $10

I've used MaskerAide's sheet masks in the past and like them, so I was happy to see a lip mask in this month's package. My lips are always dry, so I thought I'd test this out prior to applying the matte liquid lip included this month. I got all settled in at my desk and applied this little lip-shaped silicone sheet to my clean lips. After 30 seconds...plop...it fell right off and onto the ground. I was trying to keep it on with a little suction, but it just didn't want to stick around. I can't really say if it works well or not, but next time, I'll try it when laying down.

brushbrush detail

Crown Badger Angle Blush BK32 - Retail Value $3.99, Listed Value $18

This angled brush is made from badger bristles and is soft and compact. I think it's too small for blush – I like a fluffy brush for diffused color – but it works well for applying detailed contour or for blending out highlight. The retail value is what was listed on CrownBrush.com, so there is a big difference with what was listed on the info card.

Beauty Creations Calic Chic Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $11.99, Listed Value $28

I've been seeing a lot of eyeshadow palettes from Beauty Creations lately, especially in subscription boxes. I've been impressed with each one that I've tried, so I'm not hating it! This Cali Chic palette is a collection of warm, firey mattes and metallics that have an impressive color payoff. All of the shades are soft and easily blendable, but the metallics (middle row) are incredibly buttery and amazing. I mean, just look, these are one-swipe swatches! I love the inclusion of the shade "Venice" because it is a great neutral matte that is perfect for all over the lid or for blending out areas that got a bit heavy handed.

Bellápierre Cosmetics Pro Concealer Palette - Listed Value $21 (Not currently available on Bellápierre's site)

So, I'm not a big color correcting fan, but I get the allure of canceling out any unwanted darkness or blemishes. I love some of Bellápierre products – their body products smell divine – so I was hopeful. But, this palette is super weird. And, it smells like old crayons. The orange shade has a balmy texture but the green and purple are really waxy and bring out the dryness of my skin. I can't find this palette listed on their site, so I'm wondering if it's a discontinued product. However, it is listed on at least one well-known site. Either way, it's not a hit with me. (Swatches below)

Kokie Kissable Liquid Lipstick in Dolled Up - Retail Value $6, Listed Value $9

I've heard some good things about the affordable brand Kokie, especially about their lip colors and mascaras. I can see why. I'm seriously impressed by the formula...especially for $6! I thought this liquid lip would be too orangey, but it goes on with a beautiful warm apricot tone.  The staying power is great and it removes easily with waterproof makeup remover. My lips don't feel overly dried-out or crumbly and there is no bleeding or smearing at all. Also, they have 31 shades available on their site...whoa. (Swatched at the top in the photo above)

makeup look 1 makeup look 2

Here is my look using the products included this month.

I started by applying the Bellåpierre correcting concealer to any spots of redness. Then I applied my blush with the Crown blush brush. I ended up blending it out with my go-to fluffy brush because it was a little too intense at the apples of my cheeks.
For my eyes, I applied a wash of "Venice" to my entire lid with a large fluffy brush. Then I used "Beach Babe" and "Laguna" to deepen the crease and outer corners of my lids. After that, I used my fingertips to pat ALL of the metallic shades onto my lid, light to dark, from inner to outer corner.

I finished off the look with a swipe of the Kokie liquid lip paired with a similar lip liner for definition.

Verdict: It's hard to overlook the pricing/value weirdness of this subscription. Even they've noticed and added a note about it to their site recently. Yes, Oh Yas!'s listed prices put this month's product value at $86, but I estimated a retail value of $45.61. Either way, I really liked 2 of the products this month, the eyeshadow palette and the liquid lip. The other three weren't so impressive. Yes, Oh Yas! does always deliver an interesting mix of products that I enjoy trying though. And, honestly, for the affordable price of $14.99 + $3.99 for all full-size products, I'm not sure why they worry about listing values.

The way I’ve found to keep my lip masks on easily is to, place the lip mask on under a full face sheet mask. Works for me, hope it helps.

Don’t rely on the promise of a free box after a year. They did that last year, but it was a free gift after 6 months.

Once I hit month 6, I emailed for the free gift, and they said it’ll be in the next box. The next box comes, and it’s not there. I email them, and they said that they no longer do the free gift!!! I said, but I have it in writing and you said you were sending it last month?!

After fighting and threatening complaints, they sent a piece of jewelry. I cancelled a few months later. The manager said the customer service rep was wrong, but I think they only gave me the free gift because im a lawyer and made it clear that I was! Lol.

So definitely take screenshots of this offer and if they screw you, fight back.

I cancelled a few months later because its so similar (like the same exact palettes many months) to Lola beauty box which I find that I like a lot more.

Yes, Oh Yas is pretty shady. They turned off comments when people complained about the correction palette and price value of products lol
YOY pretty much ships out products that are on clearance or discontinued. The prices are not accurate. I have brought this up to them. They actually blocked me from their IG when I called them out.
Save your money and put it towards another box.

It looks like a nice box but I’m really put off by false values. I would rather they didn’t list a value at all then put a falsely high value. It feels dishonest to me and that will make me stay away. I also just refuse to pay shipping on a monthly box- just personal preference.

Gorgeous makeup darling. You look so pretty!

Their website actually states an $85 value, and not $70.

Tiffany, you look beautiful (as usual)! The colors on the eye palette seem so bold and heavily favor hues of orange. But, you made it work beautifully. I guess I need to be braver and not make a rash judgement. Great job!

Wow what a huge difference in the false values they give. Staying away from this one.

We’ve got several Kokie items from Ipsy. I am a fan! That color correcting palette came in Boxy, a year or more ago. It smelled like crayons then too! I really haven’t liked many items from that brand, this palette included. Wow @ those eye shadows! I haven’t tried that brand yet, but now I want to!

I really like the Kokie nail polishes I’ve received from Ipsy.
