We Craft Box January 2019 Review

The box included some information on sharing your creations on social media for a chance to win a free box.

On the reverse side of the instructions, there is always a story, this one is called Rainbow Dragons. We usually end up reading the story after we complete our crafts which is always fun since the kids have props to act it out with.

The directions are detailed and include colored pictures that we were able to use for reference as we worked.

Model Magic 2.5 oz Pack in Neon Colors - Retail Value $8.99

The first craft in the box was to make Rainbow Dragons using materials such as cupcake liners, cardboard tubes, tissue paper strips, glue, and Model Magic, all of which were provided for us.

The first step was to sort out our cupcake liners so we could make two dragons. Then we folded them in half.

Then we were supposed to sandwich them and glue them to one half of the tube and cut some slits in them. Then we folded down the excess and glued it to the tube.

Next, we used the Model Magic to form the dragon's snout. The neon set included two yellow, two green, and two pink packs. We chose our colors and then made teardrop shapes for the snout.

Then we wrapped the teardrops around the end of the tube and formed little bumps at the top for the nostrils. We used one of the crayons they provided to form a hole in the center of them.

Then, we used two more teardrops and added them to the top to make the eye sockets. It was a little difficult to see how to put the eyes on from the directions so I ended up adding my sons more to the side.

I re-read the directions and made sure to put them on more the top like the picture for my daughter's dragon, but in the end, I don't think it made much of a difference! The kids then added the included eyeball stickers to the eye sockets.

Then they used the crayon to add some texture to the snout and eyes.

Next, we added some sequins to the side of the dragon's face and added some tissue paper strips to the end of the tube opening using glue.

Now, our rainbow dragons were complete and had lots of rainbow fire coming from their mouths! The kids loved waving these around with the tissue paper flying through the air.

The next activity was to make dragon's eggs which was pretty exciting to my kiddos! They provided us with two large plastic eggs and we used the rest of the Model Magic to create these.

We chose our colors and made some nice "snakes" with our Model Magic and then twisted them together.

Then we coiled them up and smashed them down to flatten them and make the cover for our egg.

We wrapped up our eggs and smoothed them out adding a little extra Model Magic to the areas where our plastic egg was showing through.

Then we decorated them with sequins and used our crayons to add texture again.

We used our sequin cup to display our egg and they provided an extra cup so that we could display our second egg as well. This is a very cute idea and my kids love it, but the only problem is that they keep asking if they can open it! They don't quite understand that it's just for display, but oh well.

The last two crafts in our box sort of went together. We were to create paper rainbow dragons and a nice rainbow background for them using the dragon cutouts and this awesome rainbow crayon that they provided.

First, we added our details like the eyes and belly and then used the crayon to add more color.

My son added a few sequins to his dragon, but my daughter didn't want to get her fingers sticky...kids!

I used the rainbow crayon to create rainbows on the blue paper they gave us. Then I used the tissue paper from our box and the kids directed me as to where they wanted some clouds.

I set the backdrop inside our box and then we added in our dragons and eggs.

Of course, our display was picked apart immediately after the photos so that they could fly their dragons around the house! They had a lot of fun with this and I thought it was a cute craft for them.

Verdict: We had a lot of fun with our Rainbow Dragon We Craft Box this month. The kids were way into it and I thought that it was easy enough to put everything together with them even though they are only two and four. An older child would definitely be able to do this more independently and might enjoy using the sequins to make some more intricate designs. I love that everything we needed was included, with the exception of scissors, and that we literally used every single item they sent us including the box, the tissue paper they used for packing, and even the cup from the sequins. It means there is not much cleanup and it feels pretty eco-friendly which is nice! I also like the story that goes along with it to help engage kids even more. The cost of $29.99 + free shipping might seem a bit steep for this box, but a lot of the value is definitely in the experience itself and the fact that there is no planning on my part. It makes it a stress-free craft that we all get to enjoy together!

To Wrap Up:

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
