Organic Bunny Box January 2019 Review

In addition to the already cute exterior box, you get a really nicely designed and sturdy reusable gift box each month that houses all of your organic goodies. It seems to change ever so often as well, so you can amass a collection of different designs. This one looks really cozy for the winter.

The lid stays put with magnets so you can use it again after you've raided it. It reads: "For the glamorous girl with a green heart"

Snow Fix Skin Care Japanese Cherry Blossom & White Tea Smoothing Mask - Estimated Retail Value $7.00 (Buy 5 for $35.00)

The cotton this plan white mask is made of is 100% organic which is nice because I tend to have sensitive skin, so every little bit helps. The main ingredients of cherry blossom extract and white tea use antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and caffeine acid to plump and smooth the skin. The scent is pleasant and light and I didn't get the "hand sanitizer" smell like I often do with sheet masks. Once I removed the mask, I wasn't overwhelmed with leftover serum but was able to massage the remaining into my skin immediately. It wasn't too sticky and did leave my skin feeling a little plumper, I must say.

Scandic Botanica Citron & Blueberry Sugar Scrub, 1 oz. sample size - Estimated Retail Value $3.50

This smells heavenly! The blueberry really comes through and I am super into the grit of this one as well. It's not harsh but I certainly wouldn't say it's super gentle either. It's perfect for scrubbing that dry winter skin and it leaves behind a soft hydrated feel due to the avocado oil, rice oil, shea butter, and lemon essential oil. This is one of the nicer scrubs I've tried and would definitely consider reordering.

Lady Suite Rejuvenating Botanical Oil, 1 oz. - Retail Value $46.00

I thought this was another normal serum when I first took it out, but upon closer inspection realized that it's for my sensitive lady parts. I've come across conditioning oil for my pubic area and this seems to fall in the same category as it was created to hydrate the skin, soothe razor burn and minimize ingrown hairs. I'm enchanted by the frosted glass bottle and pink colored serum. It has a really wonderful citrus scent to it and is extremely light and easily absorbed. The longer I review skin care the more wide variety of products I am introduced to and in the meantime have discovered a whole genre that caters to this sensitive area. It makes sense since these parts are so much more delicate than say, an arm, but at the same time, I've been doing just fine without them. It isn't going to hurt to show a little extra love and gentle conditioning though, especially after any shaving or trimming.

Modicum Birch Tree Water Spritz, 1 oz. - Retail Value $22.00

When I was photographing this in the studio, Andy perked up a bit because he said he loves the way birch smells. Sadly, this barely has a birch scent at all. It's mixed with rosewater which is what takes the main stage. I happen to love rosewater so I'm not bothered by it. The mist this pump puts out is also super fine which is essential with toners and the like but not always adhered to. This spray is to be used on dry or irritated skin at any time so that the rosewater and aloe can soothe while the birch water (tapped from trees) protects and replenishes skin cells from stress. I'm really feeling this one!

Branch Basics Foaming Wash, 1.7 oz. travel size - Retail Value $6.00

This travel-size foaming wash is nice for trips or keeping in your bag if you need to stay clean. It's gentle enough to use as a makeup remover, but can be used to simply wash hands or body as well as surfaces. The wash is completely free of dyes, fragrance and is made of plant-based ingredients. Once you run out, you can simply buy a large bottle of their concentrate to mix with water and reuse this or any other container you have with a pump. They've even put the ratios on the side of the bottle.

Lulumiére Grapefruit & Bergamot Mini 100% Essential Oil Candle, 2 oz. - Retail Value $7.00

Seeing candles in sub boxes really gets me excited, especially when they are a scent that I enjoy. This one knocked it out of the park with the sweet and spicy grapefruit and bergamot soy number. This little baby has a 10-15 hour burn time and is perfect for small areas like a bathroom or reading nook. It's not too under or overpowering and I find it seasonally appropriate as well!

Sappho Lip Gloss in Hazey - Retail Value $25.00

The final item in this month's box is an organic lip gloss from Sappho. I'm actually pretty impressed with this gloss, as it's more opaque and pigmented than the usual sheer ones I come across. The color is a beautiful soft mauve and it feels super hydrating when on. They are apparently sweetened with lemongrass (which I love) and Stevia (which I hate) though I didn't pick up on the dreaded stevia flavor at all. Something did feel a little tingly and plumping in here though, which is cool. Overall, I don't love the shine a gloss brings so I will be passing this on to a gloss-friendly pal.

Verdict: I really enjoyed this month's Organic Bunny Box and discovered a whole new gang of clean beauty brands! As always, they have a great array of products which you can see in the skincare, candle, makeup, and specially-designated serum. 😉 I am once again impressed by the value here as well. For $59.00, I received seven items that have a total retail value of $116.50!

Hi Marne! Great review, I’m all subbed out right now but I would like to know how well the Branch Basics cleanser took off makeup (I usually use concealer and primer)? I assume you’d still be using an eye makeup remover for mascara, etc. Thanks!

Hi Flora! I’ll have to report back because I use a “double-cleanse” method at night and use a makeup wipe first, followed by a cleanser. I’ll let ya know!

Beautiful packaging on this one and the products look really great. I have a few Modicum products and they are really good. Pricey, but good. If this was a quarterly box, I’d be all over it. $60 a month is a little steep for my budget though. Thanks for the review!

Oh Marnie, I just thought…. have you ever thought of reviewing Maple Blume? MSA reviewed one or two boxes a while ago, but I’m guessing it didn’t get enough traction. That’s one of the subs I’ve kept going since they launched back in 2016 and always felt it was an under the radar box like how Organic Bunny was until MSA started reviewing it. It is pricey (nearing Mintd pricing), so I can see how that would make it less desirable for some people, but the box seems in line with the type of boxes you review. 🙂

Ah yes, it looks like Liz used to review Maple Blume. Let me look into that one! Thanks for the heads up, Luna! 🙂

I’m sure I’ve said this before, but I’m so happy MSA started reviewing this box a while ago! I think it’s the combination of the new year & seeing the reviews that made me decide that I want to re-sub to this box for awhile again. 🙂 This was always one of my favorite sub boxes (it was always my favorite “discovery” box), but last Spring I decided to cut it and primarily stick to the green beauty boxes that typically only send 1 – 3 items per box. However, I’m really starting to miss receiving, discovering, and enjoying the products that come in this box (along with Petit Vour, Beauty Fix, Allure, & Test Tube which I’m planning to re-sub to for awhile).

I thought the Laurel and Reed box looked like they are improving the value of it as well! I will be keeping my eye on that box. Luna we are thinking of planning a girls trip to indie beauty expo next year. Do you recommend LA over Dallas and New York?

Luna

Oooh, that should be a lot of fun! I’m so jealous you’re going! 😉 I’ve never been to any (yet!), but here’s what I’d consider if I knew I was going, but wasn’t sure to which one….

NYC seems to have the most vendors and largest VIP bag by far… last year they had over 200 vendors, and their VIP bag had 90 items! However, LA & Dallas seem to have really cool offerings of new brands too! (not all brands are featured at the same expos) What I’d do is take notes of this year’s expos and check out which vendors they had, along with the size, layout, & location of the expo too… and of course what was in their VIP bags (there are usually unboxings of them on YT). The layouts can help give an idea on which ones may be easier to navigate. However, each expo is only four hours, so when you go make sure to have a plan on which vendors you *must* visit as I’m sure if you went in & winged it you’d miss some cool vendors (four hours would definitely not be enough time for me, as I can easily get chatty with vendors :)). Since LA just had theirs, I’m sure their layout & vendor listing is still up. Also, make sure to sign up for their newsletter as they usually send out “Anthologies” (I think they’re called) of each event which are always fun to read; they’re like a recap of the event & certain vendors & products featured. Their newsletter is subscription based, but you can still view articles for free (you just have to keep clearing the cache 😉 ). Fortunately, since the last of the U.S. expos are in August, hopefully that will give you all enough time to decide which one you all prefer for next year, and if you guys choose LA it won’t be cutting it too close. 🙂

Nice review! I’m interested in cruelty free products and subscriptions. This one looks great, but I’m in the $10-$25 price range! Keep ‘em coming!

Thanks, Laura! Have you checked out our Petit Vour reviews? That one seems to be more in your price range. We have a whole “vegan” section in our Beauty Box Directory which another great place to look if you haven’t already. 😉
