SlutBox by Amber Rose January 2019 Review

SlutBox comes with a zine every month but this time they've partnered up with online newsletter Salty, a "100% independently run, volunteer publication highlighting the voices of women, trans and non-binary contributors from all over the world".

You'll find the usual fare in the first two spreads, including a letter from Amber Rose and "Sluts Unite" where subscribers are featured via social media.

The next three spreads go over the month's items as well as how you can subscribe to the Salty newsletter.

Whoreoscopes are still kickin'.

Plus there's an article originally published in Salty by editor and co-founder Claire Fitzsimmons.

As well as another one about how to make your home sexier.

It finishes up with a double dose of Slut of the Month.

Now, let's see what's in the box.

"Butter My Fly" Surprise Pasties by Be Appeeling - Retail Value $8.00

No actual surprise here, though. Pasties are a pillar of SlutBox whether you like them or not. The pair I received is a not-so-subtle glittery green pair of butterflies. If you're comfortable enough to go topless or maybe with a sheer top at the least, these pasties can cover up the sensitive parts or your tatas so you can let it all hang out without being deemed indecent. I'm not so brave, so these won't be getting used by me. They deserve to be seen and used by a bolder person than I.

Not Pot Vegan CBD Gummies, 30 ct (full size) - Retail Value $39.99

I'm actually impressed that we got a full size of these gummies. I think it's where the bulk of the value in this box lies. The website says that a serving size is just one gummy which makes these a 30-day supply. I'm not a seasoned CBD person by any means, so I don't know how much these will affect the average novice. Each bear is strawberry flavored and has 10 mg of hemp extract and is said to help with loads of physical issues like chronic pain or more emotional ones like anxiety and stress. Like the name says, they do not contain THC which is what gets you high, so don't fret, these are legal. I popped one into my mouth and although they do have a fruity flavor they also have the undeniable flavor of cannabis. If it helps me chill out though, it's well worth the flavor that I personally don't love. I'll have to see how these work out for me in the long run.

b-Vibe Guide to Anal Play - Listed Retail Value $5.00

Oh, c'mon. While I appreciate the inclusion of this booklet since it's a nice guide on how to safely engage in anal play, this shouldn't have a value of $5.00 or be counted as an item at all. This seems like more of a bonus piece of literature for the subscribers. The booklet is a small 18 pages long and mainly seems to serve as an ad for b-Vibe even though they don't have a product in the box. This could have accompanied something more tangible and would have felt less out of place.

FOUR Organics Lip Balm - Retail Value $6.00 (Buy a 3-pack for $18)

I love to talk trash on lip balms coming in sub boxes, but I actually like this one. I know myself well enough to know that I'm being glamoured by this minimal packaging but it's also organic which is a bonus and feels velvety soft on my lips. I also happen to love peppermint lip balm especially, and since it's winter I need one of these in reach at any moment so they are scattered all over my house, office, and in every coat pocket. Tis the season to load up.

L.O.V. Blush Liason Dewy Gel Blush Stick in Daring Pink – Retail Value $12.60 USD (€10.99)

As it mentions in the booklet, this item is a duplicate from back in August. They say it's a "favorite" but of course, I'm always suspicious that they just have a ton laying around and decided to send them out again instead of sourcing a new product. Even though I thought the idea was cool back then, this time I am thinking it's a little *TOO* dewy for my tastes. I like cream blushes but this one isn't matte like I prefer. The brush is cool though and the light pink color is cute. I'll still be passing this on to a friend.

One Condoms UltraFeel 2-in-1 Latex Condom, 1 ct- Listed Retail Value $1.50 (Buy a box of 10 for $15.00)

Another item that seems to me like it should just be a standard bonus or sample in each box is this condom. This one is different since you get a latex condom AND a small single-use (2 ml) packet of lube at one time. Lubrication makes things a whole lot more slippery and fun. Surely a good item for a slut on the go. It also comes with a coupon for $2.00 off a box of 10 of these.

Raeka Turmeric Cucumber Peel Off Mask, 15 ml (sample size) - Estimated Retail Value $5.90, Listed Retail Value $8.00 (buy a full-size 75 ml for $29.50)

Peel off masks are probably my second favorite type to clay so I perked up a little when I saw this turmeric + cucumber one. Unfortunately, I don't get a very good vibe from this one, mainly due to its scent. When I first squeezed it out, I got some cucumber, but not turmeric in color or scent. After spreading it on my skin, it gave a stronger more floral fragrance off which I didn't love. It says it's synthetic fragrance-free but I'm just not into this and having it on my face is too close to home for me to enjoy this.

Jersey Shore Cosmetics Rose Salty Bitch Luxe Bath Salts, 4 oz. (sample size) - Listed Retail Value $27.50 (Buy a full-size 8 oz container for $55.00)

I saw in the comments of the spoilers we posted earlier how most of our readers were taken aback by the cost of this item and I have to agree. This size doesn't seem to exist on their site, but a double size does for a whopping $55.00, so I get how SlutBox came to this price. However, it does seem pretty steep for a product like this. It contains Dead Sea salt, Epsom salts, vitamin E, aloe, dried herbs, flowers, and essential oils. The directions call for 2 ounces per bathtub soak, so this size will yield two baths. It smells pretty nice, but I think there are other products I enjoy more. The product does make sense with the collaboration with Salty this month, so I'll give them that.

Verdict: It seems like SlutBox is back to its old ways after a couple of months of what I saw as an improvement! The CBD gummies were the obvious big-ticket item this month, but most of the other products seemed like a sample or something we should get for free. I personally liked the lip balm but honestly, it's just lip balm. The salts are cool but a bit pricey considering what they are. The gummies are worth the price of the box (and then some), so I hope everyone that received this one is down to try them!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? It's a little unclear, but it seems like you'd get February as your first month (not this box).

From SlutBox:

SlutBox ships once per month, around the beginning to middle of the month. If you subscribed on or before the last day of the month, you will receive the following month's box with our regular shipment (around the beginning to middle of the month). If you subscribed after the 1st, your first box will ship the following calendar month, unless otherwise stated.*

SlutBox is subject to availability and all boxes are limited edition.

*NOTE: If you subscribed after our cutoff, you may have a chance to be included in a second shipment (quantities limited and opportunity for second shipment is not guaranteed for all members). Members who are included in our second shipment will be renewed on the 20th of the month, in advance of the next shipment.

If you're confused about when to expect your first box, submit a request or email us at [email protected].

Limited Time Offer: Use code MUVAROSE when you sign up to get a $75+ bundle of some of Muva's fave items.

Value Breakdown: At $29.99 for the cost of this box you're paying $3.75 for each item. The estimated retail value is $106.49, so here's the item breakdown:

  • Pasties: $2.25
  • Gummies: $11.26
  • Guide: $1.41
  • Lip Balm: $1.69
  • Blush: $3.55
  • Condom: $0.42
  • Peel Mask: $1.66
  • Bath Salts: $7.71

I’ve had the worst experience with this company. I wanted to cancel after my 3 months were up but they have no option to cancel via their website (that I could find). I emailed them and was told I couldn’t receive a refund but my subscription would be cancelled after those three boxes came. Not only did they not cancel my subscription, but they charged me for another three months. The products I got were okay but their complete lack of customer service is so unacceptable.

If anyone has extra pasties from multiple boxes lying around, I’ll pay shipping to send them my way because I can make use of them at music festivals!

I’ve been using the gummies instead of my usual CBD oil, and I have to say that I am experiencing better results from the gummies. Plus they taste pretty good! My oil is like minty weed, the gummies taste like strawberry and very very slightly like weed in its aftertaste. It’s barely noticeable. But they do work and I am ordering more when this bottle is almost gone. I’m halfway through them so I’d better get on it!

My comments never post!

Never wear pasties…. red lipstick and that’s all I wear to bed. Anything sexy in this box ever?

I have a feeling that these particular pasties are geared towards the brave souls who dare to wear sparkly nipple covers “outside” of the bedroom…and outside of their home. In public. During winter. In the company of strangers, small children and grandmas.
Im basing this educated guess soley on the name of the sub box and the celeb who promotes its contents.
Im all for free the nip. Im not all for my 7 year old being anywhere near nips that are free. That being said- this item, along with the single sample condom and anal play short story contribution- are 3 very good reasons that im gonna skip this months slut box. Fingers crossed that next months selections are half as great as this months.

OMFG this is the wort box ever! A leaflet as an item? One condom…one!? I bought an organic lip balm for $3. Epsom salts are like 2 dollars. I could go on but I expect a lot of people will drop this box after this.

FYI…I tried those gummies and they sucked- didn’t do a thing for my back pain. The Wyld CBD strawberry gummies are my favorites- taste better than these, and they do a much better job of relieving my pain. I don’t feel like the Not Pot brand did anything!

I’ll have to try those. I’ve tried many cbd oils and they did absolutely nada for my chronic pain. Only thing that helps is kratom.

Ashley

Where do you get kratom from? I’ve wanted to try it but there’s so many sites I’m not sure which is legit.

Lesly

Thanks for the feedback! I wanted to swap for them for chronic pain but will look into the Wyld ones instead. Thank you!

Would love to swap for the gummies!

I don’t know what to make of this box. I’m always on the verge of canceling. I expected more from this supposed collaboration with Salty. The gummies were the hero for sure, the rest was straight filler. Ugh. IDK. I love the concept and info, but…

Those pasties look like non-slip stickers for a bathtub! (Alternative use?)

Was only going to let that box get delivered to my house if I could for sure get the gummies, bummer.

Melissa

Oh, come on! You mean you aren’t going to model the pasties for us?!? 😉

I emailed them, as I would like the gummies, to see if this box was available – they said no. So if you sign up (…) you would receive the February box.

I wonder if they just threw whatever else they had around for this box minus the gummies and the bath salts. I’ve only ever seen the Jersey Shore Cosmetics stuff through subscription boxes, so I kind of never trust their values. (I liked it, but I mean $55 for four baths worth of salt? Come on!) Nothing else really went with the theme in my opinion, and the box was super late to ship this month. I wonder if they “ran out” because they just filled previous orders. Not to mention they did not release any spoilers, but hyped up the collaboration so much!!! And that silly little booklet is available as a free download on the bVibe site, so is the paper worth $5???

This whole month was such a mess that I cancelled. I’m not going to subscribe to this box again unless I see some spoilers before they charge me!
