MyIrelandBox December 2018 Review

MyIrelandBox December 2018 - Letter 1 MyIrelandBox December 2018 - Letter 2 MyIrelandBox December 2018 - Letter 3

This box comes with a lot of literature. Rather than a traditional short info sheet, this box contains a full letter from the creators of MyIrelandBox with a lot of information and insight on why each particular item was chosen. This month’s box was inspired by a white Christmas in Ireland!

We also received a postcard. Question- do you have to pay extra to mail a square postcard in the US the way you do a square envelope?

    MyIrelandBox December 2018 - Lamb’s Wool Scarf 1 MyIrelandBox December 2018 - Lamb’s Wool Scarf 2

Foxford Woolen Mills Neutral Block Check Scarf – Retail Value $28.49 (€25.00) (on sale for €17.50)

This 100% lamb’s wool scarf is SO cozy and warm that I really just want to snuggle up with it. It features a blend of grey, cream, and blush pink plaid and it measures 83 inches by 11 inches. The info letter says that this specific scarf was chosen to mimic the colors you see in the scenery in Ireland around Christmas time. Since this is made with lamb’s wool, it is dry clean only.

  MyIrelandBox December 2018 - Calendar 1 MyIrelandBox December 2018 - Calendar 2 MyIrelandBox December 2018 - Calendar 3

Real Ireland Design Slim Scenic 2019 Calendar – Retail Value $5.69 (€4.99)

This calendar features scenic photos across all of Ireland photographed by Liam Blake. The slim design means it can fit in most spaces that need a calendar, and the resolution of the prints are high quality and quite beautiful.

MyIrelandBox December 2018 - Wood Map Merry Christmas Top

Rossbrin Creatives Holiday Ornament – Retail Value $5.13 (€4.50)

This wood ornament features a map of Ireland with distinct county lines and the phrase “Irish You A Merry Christmas.” I think this is so sweet and unique, and I love the little felt shamrock that is attached to the loop. I would also like to say that this box did arrive in time to go on my Christmas tree, I am just a bit behind due to holiday travels.

MyIrelandBox December 2018 - Karo Art Envelope Top MyIrelandBox December 2018 - Karo Art Opened Top MyIrelandBox December 2018 - Karo Art Top MyIrelandBox December 2018 - Karo Art Closer View Front

Karo Art Ceramics Christmas Decoration – Estimated Value $14.24 (€12.50) (based on the cost of similar items found here)

This sweet hand-crafted fox decoration was created just for MyIrelandBox! It features a sweet fox with metallic gold accents, and it can be hung up as an ornament or used as a decoration however you like. All Karo Art pieces are inspired after Irish fables and fairy tales, and I love that the minimalist nature can go with a variety of styles.

Verdict: This was such a lovely box from MyIrelandBox- everything was high quality and gorgeous, and anything that doesn’t fit with your personal style would make a thoughtful gift. My favorite is definitely the scarf- before this one I had no wool scarves, so I am excited to wear this warm piece when the wind chill appears. I calculated a value of $53.55 based on today’s exchange rate, which just about meets the cost of the box plus shipping. The benefit of this box is that you don’t have to pay four separate international shipping charges, and the curation is always top notch.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $45 + $10.50 shipping, which means that each of the 4 items in the box has an average cost of $13.87. That seems a bit high for the ornaments, but most of the value in this box is in that beautiful scarf!

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I don’t put up a tree so the ornaments would be a miss (though I suppose the cute fox could hang from the mirror in a car maybe?) – but what a nice scarf! I’m actually surprised the rv is that low given that it is 100% wool and appears well mad

I love the sweet simple fox ornament!

That’s it? Two small hanging decorations, a scarf, and a calendar, the mass-produced kind of 12 landscapes that people receive free from multiple charities each year. For $55, I am not impressed. Two more items that can be used by everyone year-round (for example, one houseware item and a fragranced personal-care item) would have made this a solid box.

I would have been impressed with the ceramic ornament if they had bothered to notate the significance of the fox on the back of the ornament – just a sentence or two on the role of the fox in Irish folklore, or what fable they were referring to. As it is, it just looks like somebody’s thrown-together project from Etsy. Apart from the scarf, would you really have ordered any of these items online if you saw them?

I have to agree. I don’t see the value here. A few of those items just don’t scream Ireland to me. I wouldn’t sub it by this review and several past reviews.
