Meowbox January 2019 Review
Meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes.
The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had a holiday theme.
Le Sharma Wool Snowball – Retail Value $5
Angus loves felted wool balls of all sizes (this is on the larger side). This one has a little bit of a rattle inside. Anyway, he started batting this around immediately when I gave it to him.
Birthday Catnip Cupcake – Retail Value $5
I don’t have any idea when my cats’ birthdays are so we just filled in a random date at sign-up. (You get an extra toy during your cat’s birthday month.) This is the toy they are sending out for birthdays right now. Several cats were particularly interested in the candle. (Note: most boxes will not have this item, this month unless you gave your kitty a January birthday at sign-up.)
Ski Goggles – Retail Value $5
This is a small catnip toy with strings on either end. My cats were pretty interested in the strings. (You can’t actually put these on a cat’s head. I may have tried…)
Kitten Mittens – Retail Value $5
This catnip toy has two ends with the string in the middle, so a bit of a different strategy. The mittens have some interesting textures, which I think my kitties were into. This one is also small and lightweight.
Kettlecraft Wild Pacific Salmon and Sardine Treats (3 oz)
This is a Canadian brand and, as far as I can tell, you can’t buy it in the US. Anyway, these are soft and chewy (I think “semi-moist” is the pet food industry term) and they don’t stink of fish, which is great considering the flavor. Sneaky and Madison were fans.
Hit the Slopes Wand – Retail Value $10
There’s often a wand toy in Meowbox and it is usually very popular. Sneaky and Angus loved this (don’t tell them they liked the same toy). It seems pretty well-constructed, too, since my crew was pretty rough with it but it is still in good shape.
Lots and lots of cat pictures:
Angus likes dangly things with or on strings. (His leg was shaved because he had an IV during his IBD tests. The scabby parts are getting better, don’t worry.)
Madison liked the treats so much, he stood up on his hind legs to get one.
Monkey is an old man and he was pretty sleepy when I was taking these pictures. (If he is not a teenager yet, he probably will be this year.) He didn’t eat the treats but he is kind of a food snob.
Sneaky did like the treats. And the same toy Angus liked. (Don’t tell her, she hates Angus.)
And, at long last, here is Mr. Kitty. He still has to wear the e-collar because he keeps scratching his eye, but it is looking a lot better. He has no idea what is going on here because he is just about completely blind (he did get up on the couch on his own).
Verdict: I couldn’t calculate a total value for the January Meowbox since the treats aren’t sold in the US. There were four $5 items and one $10 item, so we know the value is above $30 (or above $25 if not your cat’s birthday month), and the value of the treats would be on top of that, so you are coming out ahead. Once again, the toys are cute and manage to stick with the theme, and my cats liked them, so we are happy.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? I feel like this box came super early for me (earlier than their usual shipping time) so it’s possible you would. Otherwise, watch the Meowbox site as some of the individual items may go on sale.
