Luxe Box Winter 2018 Review

Masker Aide Sweet Retreat Mini Sheet Masks - Retail Value $7

This is a new kind of mask situation to me- minis! This pack comes with not just one full sheet masks, but 12 mini ones. They come almost like a sticker sheet on one piece, but you'll peel each sweet treat away from the plastic backing to adhere to your face (or body). The sheet is dripping with serum (or essence) so they stay put wherever you put them. The scent is slightly sweet but not very harsh at all and the serum is the consistency of a water-based lubricant. The directions say to leave it on for 10-20 minutes and per usual, to massage any extra serum into the skin. There's definitely a lot of moisture in these so if you have a dry patch anywhere, this is a great treatment!

Mirabella Blush Duo in Blissful - Retail Value $28.00 (currently out of stock)

I've been using a cream blush for quite some time now, so using these I had to readjust how much to use. I went a little hard on the darker color which is great for Fall/Winter but I was able to blend it out with my brush without a problem. I really like the shade and the lighter pink will be perfect for Spring and Summer! It's great to have two in one compact!

Luna By Luna Highlighter in Crescent - Retail Value $23.00

Oh wow, I love this highlighter! I've also been using a cream highlighter for some time and most powders seem to be too sparkly for me but not this one! It has a sort of iridescence to it instead of a straight-up sparkle which I really appreciate. Unfortunately, it's kind of hard to capture it in the photo but it is sort of blue and pink and really captures the light. It brushes on quite nicely and really makes the areas I put it on POP. This one is definitely going into my makeup bag immediately.

Pretty Woman NYC Nail Polish in All the Jingle Ladies - Retail Value $8.99

Since I get gel polish these days, this one is a miss for me but it's certainly a beautiful glimmery red color! This came in December so it would've been a great holiday color for parties and gatherings. I'll be sending this along to one of my girlfriends who rocks regular polish.

Delia Organics Lip Nectar, 0.33 oz. - Retail Value $19.99 (found on sale here for $15.99)

My word, this is the THIRD time I've received this item in a subscription box! It's been three different ones but it still cracks me up since it isn't a super common brand. The nectar comes in a roller ball applicator so you can easily slide this across your lips when they're feeling dry. I personally prefer a balm but this can be used as an overnight oil treatment in addition to just adding on throughout the day.

Steve Laurant Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick in Royalty - Retail Value $22.00

This liquid lipstick is a little on the pink side for me but I do appreciate how easy it goes on and it doesn't fell too dry like some mattes can. It stayed put pretty well but doesn't have all day wear. You'll probably have to reapply every few hours or so to keep it looking fresh. I'd prefer to wear this in the Spring than right now, so I may keep it around.

Nars Climax Mascara, 0.06 oz. trial size - Estimated Retail Value $6.86 (Buy full size for $24.00)

I can't get enough of mascara, and especially really like getting minis like this. Even when I'm not wearing a full face of makeup, mascara is a product I think can make a major difference on its own. The brush is super fat which I like and it makes my lashes big and thick although I did think they were a little cakey. Nothing a few flutters against a piece of tissues wouldn't fix. This is a good one to toss in a bag so it's always there.

Invisibobble Original Hair Ring, set of 3 - Retail Value $6.96

I've seen these all over the place lately but don't think they're much use to me. My hair is really thin and the length is on the short side right now so these are a bit big for me. I've seen people with more luscious locks using them a lot though so they seem popular and won't yank out your hair. This pack comes with three reddish browb invisibobbles and one has a small gold gingerbread charm on it and is part of their Holiday 2018 collection.

Here are swatches for the liquid lipstick, highlighter, and both blushes.

Verdict: Luxe Box doesn't really live up to their name for me as it's kind of a no-frills presentation with brands that don't scream "luxury" to me. That being said, for $26 I received eight items with a retail value of $121.10! Not all of the items were winners for me, but between the blush, highlighter, and mascara which were my faves, this box is well worth the cost.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? It's a little hard to tell. They have an "Editor's Box" option in which a special box ships to you immediately if you subscribe in between seasons and don't want to wait. Best to reach out to their customer care to find out when you'd recieve your first.

Value Breakdown: At $26.00 for this box, here's what you're paying for each item:

  • Mini Sheet Masks: $1.14
  • Blush Duo: $6.01
  • Highlighter: $4.94
  • Nail Polish: $1.93
  • Lip Nectar: $4.29
  • Liquid Lipstick: $4.72
  • Mascara: $1.47
  • Invisibobbles: $1.49

Just so all you older ladies know, I am hitting mid 40’s and always get compliments on my skin and how young I look when I wear highlighter in a crescent around my eyes, I start right above the end of my eyebrow and blend it down onto my cheek bone. For me the highlight blurs the little crinkles and makes me have a glow. I was not a highlighter fan until about a year ago when I tried it. Now a good brow pencil, good highlight and mascara and I am good to go.

I agree, I really don’t want my wrinkles highlighted, lol

When I still had Benevolent Beauty box, I received that Delia lip nectar and the Delia nail & cuticle oil. I love them for something simple when I don’t feel like a balm (yes, more like a sensuous light oil lip mask, if that makes any sense). Oddly enough, out of your whole box, that lip nectar would only seem more “lux” to me with regard to how it is as a product as opposed to its price, than any other product in your box. Would love if the highlighter craze kind of goes away at some point. Maybe I’m the only one? Doesn’t seem like a luxe box, though. Steve Laurant has a great iiquid felt eyeliner.

You aren’t alone in the highlighter thing. I have no interest in looking shiny, but both my daughters do. LOL
