Love with Food Deluxe January 2019 Box Review

The information card has changed yet again, probably due to Love with Food getting bought out by Snacknation, so there aren’t really themes anymore but that’s OK!

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Booklet Front Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Booklet Back Top

Happy to see basically no product literature this month.  I don’t really want ads unrelated to the snacks in the box, anyway!

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Legendary Foods Buffalo Blue Wing Seasoned Almonds Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Legendary Foods Buffalo Blue Wing Seasoned Almonds Opened Top

Legendary Foods Buffalo Blue Wing Seasoned Almonds (1.5 oz) – Buy 4 oz for $5.99

This was a new brand for me and these were very tasty and not as high in sodium as you might expect. The seasoning has real buttermilk and I think you can totally tell.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Balance Bar Caramel Nut Blast Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Balance Bar Caramel Nut Blast Opened Top

Balance Bar Caramel Nut Blast (1.76 oz) – Retail Value $1.39

This is a blast from the past. I used to eat these all the time. I have to say, though, even though this has a low glycemic index, it really feels more like eating a candy bar (think a Milky Way with no gooey caramel) than a nutrition bar.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Beanitos White Bean Chips in Nacho Cheese Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Beanitos White Bean Chips in Nacho Cheese Opened Top

Beanitos White Bean Chips in Nacho Cheese (1.2 oz) – Buy 6 oz for $3.99 (found here for $3.39)

Beanitos seems to be undergoing a packaging change so these may be a little old, but they are still really good. If they aren’t available in your area on Vitacost (linked to above), Amazon has them in the new packaging. I am a huge fan of Beanitos, in general, and they got taken off the shelves at my local Whole Foods for some reason, so I have to either think ahead to order them or enjoy them when they come in subscription boxes like this.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Nonni’s Ciccolati Biscotti Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Nonni’s Ciccolati Biscotti Opened Top

Nonni’s Ciccolati Biscotti (1.33 oz) – Retail Value $2.98

I have to admit, I never much got the appeal of biscotti. It takes great cookie ingredients and makes them super dry. I think perhaps my problem is that I don’t drink coffee and these would probably be pretty good, dunked in coffee to soften them up a bit (if you like coffee, that is). This was better than expected but not something I would really go out looking for again.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - B Bar Brownie Bar Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - B Bar Brownie Bar Opened Top

B Bar Brownie Bar (1.5 oz) – Buy 15 for $24 (found here for $21.99)

I wasn’t sure why this was included at first but I have been looking at this item in the Love with Food snack shop and I see that they are more than 51% whole grains and have 4 grams of fiber. Although I do like high-fiber foods, and I am unlikely to hate too much on a chocolate item, these were just a little dry.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Dolcetto Lemon Wafer Bites Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Dolcetto Lemon Wafer Bites Opened Top

Dolcetto Lemon Wafer Bites (0.7 oz) – Buy 15 for $18.99 (found here for $16.99)

This is an item I’ve received several times before from Love with Food. I like them, but surely there are other flavors or styles we could try sometime? They have thin, crunchy shells with a lemon-flavored filling.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Enlightened Roasted Broad Beans in Garlic and Onion Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Enlightened Roasted Broad Beans in Garlic and Onion Opened Top

Enlightened Roasted Broad Beans in Garlic and Onion (1 oz) – Buy 24 Bags for $24.99

This is old packaging. This item has been rebranded (see link above). While I like the new packaging (it’s colorful), I don’t care for the new name (I would never ask for someone to pick up some “Bada Bean Bada Boom” for me at the supermarket). Anyway, these were pretty tasty although they did leave me with not the greatest breath, which is something to keep in mind if you throw these into your lunchbox and are going to be eating around other people.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Prince of Peace Ginger Chews With Coffee Pouch Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Prince of Peace Ginger Chews With Coffee Top

Prince of Peace Ginger Chews with Coffee (3 oz) – Retail Value $2.05

Um. I was a little afraid when I saw this. I like ginger but I don’t like coffee (at all). Oddly, these don’t taste strongly of ginger or coffee (though I guess I can believe both are present). Be careful if you have any dental work, these are super sticky.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Late July Jalapeno Lime Tortilla Chips Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Late July Jalapeno Lime Tortilla Chips Top Opened

Late July Jalapeno Lime Tortilla Chips (1 oz) – Buy 10 for $19.99 (found here for $15.99)

I’ve seen these at Whole Foods but never tried them before. They’re straight up corn chips (not bean chips like Beanitos) and my husband said they reminded him of Doritos (I guess without artificial colors, though). I thought they were pretty tasty and we have been looking for a new brand of tortilla chips after Whole Foods stopped carrying Beanitos. These are definitely now in the running.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Stretch Island Original Fruit Leather in Apple Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Stretch Island Original Fruit Leather in Apple Opened Top

Stretch Island Original Fruit Leather in Apple (0.5 oz) – Buy 30 for $23 (found here for $19.50)

You’ll often receive some kid food in Love with Food. I’d classify this as kid food, this month. It sure is sticky to touch but doesn’t really stick to your teeth, which is nice for a change. This has a pretty simple ingredients list limited to things like “apple puree concentrate” and such.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Oskri Sweet and Salty Peanut Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Oskri Sweet and Salty Peanut Opened Top

Oskri Sweet and Salty Peanut (0.88 oz) – Buy 17 for $19 (found here for $16.50)

I am a fan of peanut snacks and so this item worked quite well for me. This has a super simple ingredients list peanuts, rice syrup, date paste, and sea salt but the peanuts definitely take center stage.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Pretzel Pete Salted Caramel Mini Twists Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Pretzel Pete Salted Caramel Mini Twists Opened Top

Pretzel Pete Salted Caramel Mini Twists (0.8 oz) – Buy 15 for $19.99 (found here for $17.99)

We’ve been getting a lot of pretzels in recent months although I think this is the first time they were not either plain or a savory flavor. I was a little hesitant about trying these, but I’m glad I did because I enjoyed them quite a bit.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Beechnut Vanilla Quinoa Crispies Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Beechnut Vanilla Quinoa Crispies Opened Top

Beechnut Vanilla Quinoa Crispies (0.56 oz) – Buy 5 for $2.89

More kid food! This is for toddlers early in the process of learning to chew and eat solid food. It doesn’t take much time for an adult to make short work of this! For what it’s worth, this is a lot softer than other quinoa snacks.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - RxBar Peanut Butter Chocolate Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - RxBar Peanut Butter Chocolate Opened Top

RxBar Peanut Butter Chocolate (1.83 oz) – Buy 12 for $25.99

Ah, RxBars. They are not my favorite. They have a pretty simple ingredients list, which is supposed to be a draw, but they usually have a strange texture I think must be due to the egg white. I think the texture is what’s preventing me from fully enjoying these (I eat eggs, but under certain circumstances, all parts of the egg can become rubbery). In this case, I actually found this bar flavor to have the best texture, so there’s that.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Laughing Giraffe Organics Lemon Snakaroon Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Laughing Giraffe Organics Lemon Snakaroon Opened Top

Laughing Giraffe Organics Lemon Snakaroon (0.5 oz) – Buy 15 for $19 (found here for $15.99)

I regularly buy Laughing Giraffe Snakaroons at Whole Foods (try the salted caramel ones sometime). I’d also suggest buying them in a retail store if you can, rather than ordering because they tend to fall apart, but you can see through most of the packaging at the store to make sure they’re intact. This had a pleasant lemon flavor but it was mild compared to the coconut.

Love With Food Box January 2019 - Nature’s Garden Cranberry Health Mix Top Love With Food Box January 2019 - Nature’s Garden Cranberry Health Mix Opened Top

Nature’s Garden Cranberry Health Mix (1.2 oz) – Buy 15 for $24.40 (found here for $21.99)

This was a standout item for me. Usually, trail mixes are full of cheap ingredients but this one actually had a lot of nuts, including whole almonds and some big pieces of walnut (something you don’t often see in products like this). There were also golden raisins. Anyway, I found this to be of high quality and would definitely consider it if in the market for such a product.

Verdict: There were 18 items in the January 2019 Love with Food Deluxe Box. This is an improvement over the last few months when there were fewer than 15 items per month. Some items were things we had received before, but it was all vegetarian (this is not a strictly vegetarian box), which is always good for me. Now that it has been a few months since SnackNation took over Love with Food, my overall impression is that things are improving. Yes, there is still some kid food (quinoa crispies, fruit leather), but I thought the variety of items was quite nice, overall.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? You’d receive January’s box as your first box, but check the Love with Food shop, as sometimes past boxes will show up there.

Value Breakdown: At $19.95 for this box, you are paying about $1.25 per item.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who cannot stand the texture of the Rx Bars! The taste is fine but the texture….I can’t stomach it lol.

I don’t know if you are up on Twitter memes, but you might find this funny in light of your view of RxBars:

Thank you for such a thorough review. I currently receive the tasting box and A few of the items that you received were also in my box. It’s fun to try new snacks although it seems the ones I really Love are always the most expensive ones in the retail market 😁
