KitNipBox January 2019 Review
KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, they are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times. This month it was an “Up in the Air” theme:
The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online.
Kitty Felt Cardinal – Listed Value $5
This is a very soft catnip plush toy with a fuzzy felt-like texture. And of course, feathers on its tail, which made it an instant hit with my crew.
All for Paws Cloud Pillow – Listed Value $5
This is a little bigger than the cardinal and also pretty soft, but with a somewhat different texture than the cardinal. KitNipBox usually does a pretty good job at providing toys with a variety of sizes and textures, and now that most of my cats are older, inspecting the various textures is something that interests them a lot.
Dream Cat Handmade Night Sky Kicker – Listed Value $5
Sometimes you will receive a handmade toy in KitNipBox, which I think is a nice touch. This is maybe a fleece material? It is also super soft and Monkey wanted to spend a rather long time licking this one as well as rubbing his face on it. (I assume these behaviors mean he likes the toy…) This is on the small side for a kicker, which is what my cats tend to prefer.
Max Crescent Moon Toss Toy – Listed Value $5
This has either very little stuffing or none, and a denser, more canvas-like outer texture. Madison spent a good amount of time sniffing this.
Max Rocket Ship – Listed Value $5
This was one of two toys that were especially popular with several cats this month. They were mostly interested in the “exhaust,” which is made up of cornhusks. I have to keep this one on a high shelf when I am not around because several cats were trying to eat the cornhusks.
All for Paws Airplane Wand – Listed Value $7
This is the other toy that was popular with several cats, although only Angus wanted to play with it during picture time. Both Angus and Sneaky are fans of wand-style toys and you will usually receive at least one wand or dangler in KitNipBox.
These grossed me out. I couldn’t bring myself to touch them. Because they are SMALL WHOLE FISH with the eyes and everything. For the first time, I got one of my cats to eat them (Sneaky, of course) but I either let her eat them out of the bag or dumped some on the floor.
Gratuitous kitty photos:
Angus only wanted to play with toys from this chair, and he was really interested in biting them.
I like how Madison is all serious again after licking the cornhusks on the rocket.
Monkey mostly wants to rub his face on things and that’s OK.
Sneaky is just in this for the treats. (No, I did not let her eat ALL of the ones on the carpet.) No hand-feeding pictures this month because these really grossed me out.)
And Mr. Kitty is doing just fine but is taking a break from appearing in cat subscription reviews for a while, while we work on treating some eye issues.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $36 for the January KitNipBox. I know I haven’t provided links for most of the products, and that’s because I can’t usually find these brands for sale at retail prices online. I do occasionally see these brands in other cat subscription boxes, and I have found them at wholesale websites before (just not with retail prices), so while I don’t think you would be able to find some (or all) of these items at stores, I feel like KitNipBox is probably sourcing them from wholesale suppliers, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Anyway, the rocket toy with the corn husks was probably my cats’ favorite, with the wand toy close behind. Only Sneaky was interested in the treats although Madison did at least give them a sniff.
