KitNipBox is a monthly subscription box just for cats.  Each month, expect a themed selection of toys and treats for your kitty! None of the food products in the box are made in China, though some of the toys may be. All KitNipBox toys are thoroughly assessed for quality and safety by the KitNipBox team.

KitNipBox January 2019 Review

KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, they are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times. This month it was an “Up in the Air” theme:

The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online.

Kitnipbox January 2019 - Kitty Felt Cardinal

Kitty Felt Cardinal – Listed Value $5

This is a very soft catnip plush toy with a fuzzy felt-like texture. And of course, feathers on its tail, which made it an instant hit with my crew.

Kitnipbox January 2019 - Cloud Pillow

All for Paws Cloud Pillow – Listed Value $5

This is a little bigger than the cardinal and also pretty soft, but with a somewhat different texture than the cardinal. KitNipBox usually does a pretty good job at providing toys with a variety of sizes and textures, and now that most of my cats are older, inspecting the various textures is something that interests them a lot.

Kitnipbox January 2019 - Dream Cat Handmade Night Sky Kicker

Dream Cat Handmade Night Sky Kicker – Listed Value $5

Sometimes you will receive a handmade toy in KitNipBox, which I think is a nice touch. This is maybe a fleece material? It is also super soft and Monkey wanted to spend a rather long time licking this one as well as rubbing his face on it. (I assume these behaviors mean he likes the toy…) This is on the small side for a kicker, which is what my cats tend to prefer.

Kitnipbox January 2019 - Max Crescent Moon Toss Toy

Max Crescent Moon Toss Toy – Listed Value $5

This has either very little stuffing or none, and a denser, more canvas-like outer texture. Madison spent a good amount of time sniffing this.

Kitnipbox January 2019 - Max Rocket Ship

Max Rocket Ship – Listed Value $5

This was one of two toys that were especially popular with several cats this month. They were mostly interested in the “exhaust,” which is made up of cornhusks. I have to keep this one on a high shelf when I am not around because several cats were trying to eat the cornhusks.

Kitnipbox January 2019 - Airplane Wand

All for Paws Airplane Wand – Listed Value $7

This is the other toy that was popular with several cats, although only Angus wanted to play with it during picture time. Both Angus and Sneaky are fans of wand-style toys and you will usually receive at least one wand or dangler in KitNipBox.

Kitnipbox January 2019 - Purebites Freeze Dried Small Minnows Treats

Purebites Freeze Dried Small Minnows (0.5 oz) – Listed Value $4 (buy 1.09 oz for $5.29, found here for $4.79)

These grossed me out. I couldn’t bring myself to touch them. Because they are SMALL WHOLE FISH with the eyes and everything. For the first time, I got one of my cats to eat them (Sneaky, of course) but I either let her eat them out of the bag or dumped some on the floor.

Gratuitous kitty photos:

Angus only wanted to play with toys from this chair, and he was really interested in biting them.

Kitnipbox January 2019 - Madison With Max Rocket Ship 1 Kitnipbox January 2019 - Madison With Max Rocket Ship 2 Kitnipbox January 2019 - Madison With Max Rocket Ship 3 Kitnipbox January 2019 - Madison With Max Rocket Ship 4 Kitnipbox January 2019 - Madison With Max Rocket Ship 5

I like how Madison is all serious again after licking the cornhusks on the rocket.

Kitnipbox January 2019 - Monkey With Max Rocket Ship 1Kitnipbox January 2019 - Monkey With Max Rocket Ship 2

Monkey mostly wants to rub his face on things and that’s OK.

Kitnipbox January 2019 - Sneaky With Purebites Freeze Dried Small Minnows 1 Kitnipbox January 2019 - Sneaky With Purebites Freeze Dried Small Minnows 2 Kitnipbox January 2019 - Sneaky With Purebites Freeze Dried Small Minnows 3 Kitnipbox January 2019 - Sneaky With Purebites Freeze Dried Small Minnows 4

Sneaky is just in this for the treats. (No, I did not let her eat ALL of the ones on the carpet.) No hand-feeding pictures this month because these really grossed me out.)

And Mr. Kitty is doing just fine but is taking a break from appearing in cat subscription reviews for a while, while we work on treating some eye issues.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $36 for the January KitNipBox. I know I haven’t provided links for most of the products, and that’s because I can’t usually find these brands for sale at retail prices online. I do occasionally see these brands in other cat subscription boxes, and I have found them at wholesale websites before (just not with retail prices), so while I don’t think you would be able to find some (or all) of these items at stores, I feel like KitNipBox is probably sourcing them from wholesale suppliers, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Anyway, the rocket toy with the corn husks was probably my cats’ favorite, with the wand toy close behind. Only Sneaky was interested in the treats although Madison did at least give them a sniff.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your first KitNipBox will ship right after your payment processes, so you should still be able to get January’s box if you sign up now.

Value breakdown: At $29.99 a month for this box, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Cloud $4.17
  • Kicker $4.17
  • Moon toy $4.17
  • Rocket toy $4.17
  • Wand $5.81

  1. That looks like a good box. I like the different textures. My kids are also really into wand toys.
