Kira Kira Crate “New Year, New You” Review

Kira Kira January 2019 - Pamphlet Front

Kira Kira January 2019 - Pamphlet Back

This box always comes with a booklet that describes all the items and how to use them, which is great for me because the majority of the packaging isn’t written in English! They also feature customer photos that use the hashtag #kirakiracrate to share on social media and include a great how-to on using the items in the box. This month’s theme is “New Year, New You,” and I’m excited to see what’s inside to help me start some new beauty routines!

Kira Kira January 2019 - Hand Cream Back

Hand Cream

My skin is always so dry in the winter, and I never think to bring lotion anywhere with me! This tube is a nice size and is perfect for sticking in my desk drawer. I received the rose scent, and I’m really glad, because it was a nice change from my lavender-heavy product lineup. This is more of a lotion consistency to me, rather than a full-on hand cream. It’s not as deeply moisturizing as my hands need right now, but it is emollient, and the true-to-flower scent lingered pleasantly for over an hour. I found this surprising, since my skin doesn’t usually hold on to fragrance for very long!

Rice Facial Mask

I see a lot of sheet masks throughout the year, but these were new to me! I like the engineering of the package, and how there are several masks in this re-sealable bag. I have to say, though, that the smell took a little getting used to. The fermented soy milk solution has a really sharp smell, and I wasn’t crazy about having it so close to my nose. The mask I tried did seem to moisturize my face, but possibly not quite enough for me to subject my sniffer to another one right away! I also can’t discount the possibility that the silicone face mask (see below) possibly gave this mask a performance boost.

Silicone Face Mask

It took me a second to figure out the purpose of the two-piece mask. It’s intended to go over sheet masks and help seal in extra moisture, making them more effective! This was tighter than expected, and I wonder if my face was maybe too large for it? The two straps on each side hook behind the wearer’s ears, and while the top straps near the eyes weren’t too uncomfortable, I had to finesse the bottom ones a little so that they weren’t tugging on my ears too much. Due to the fit, I kept the rice facial mask on for closer to the 15-minute mark, rather than the 20-25 minutes I usually dedicate to a mask of this time.

2-In-1 Cuticle Pen

Confession: I haaaaate my cuticles! They’re dry all the time, and more importantly, I pick them like a fiend. No, really. My husband has to smack my fingers at least three times during any date that involves a movie theater. I’m always excited to see cuticle products in the hopes that I can find some kind of solution for their long-term care. I like this little pen a lot! It’s a really cool construct and honestly, I’m a little baffled by how it works. The pink tip is hard, almost like pumice stone, but when I press it down on my nails or skin, some of the oil comes out. So cool! The oil isn’t too thick and seems to absorb quickly and has a nice scent; it’s a clean lavender scent that’s not too botanical. I am ready to put this in my favorite purse and see if it helps me over time!

Kira Kira January 2019 - Bath Bomb Pkg

Kira Kira January 2019 - Bath Bomb Out

Daruma Bath Bomb

As many of you may know, I have a bath bomb obsession, so I love seeing them in my boxes! I really love this one. It’s decorated to look like a Daruma, which is a symbol in Japanese culture for good luck. This smells amazing - I can’t place the scent but it’s powdery, floral, and has an oh-so-faint hint of musk.

Verdict: This box was smell-o-rific this month! I really enjoyed the variety of products that seemed to target some problems I usually have in cold weather. The cuticle pen is going to be really handy when I’m on the run, I already can’t wait to use the hand cream again, and that bath bomb smelled sooooo good! I’m not so sure about the silicone mask and the rice sheet masks, but as always, I’m totally psyched that I tried them.

Yeah I was super excited when I saw the ad on Instagram. But now I see it’s disappointing

It says “6-8 full size products” but I do not consider hand cream, cuticle oil pen, a bath bomb and sheet mask as any thing even close to “6-8 full size products”. And I’ve noticed that, of all the Kira Kira crate reviews I’ve seen, not one actually has this so called “6-8 full size products”.
