Gramma In a Box January 2019 Review

This card describes the candy and cookie projects for this month. On the back, it lists the contents of the box as well as a list of items that you would need from home. It also mentions that the two sheets of included wax paper were to be used as placemats to make for easy cleanup. This month's theme is New Year and Football treats, and did you notice the red box it all came in? Looks like Gramma has upgraded her packaging! It looks so sleek and professional!

Project #1: New Year Sparklers

The first candy project was to make New Year Sparklers. Each recipe comes on its own card with the ingredients listed on the back. They are always labeled in the order that you should make them so everything is well- planned out and easy to follow.

The first step was to set out our 6 pretzel sticks and I had my daughter empty the sprinkles on a plate. One pretzel was broken, but we just took the opportunity to make two mini-sticks instead!

I melted our white chocolate in the microwave and then I dipped a pretzel into it and passed it along to my daughter so that she could roll them in sprinkles.

Then we set them aside on our wax paper to set while we started our next project. We are always a fan of anything involving chocolate and pretzels so we loved this treat. The unique shape and flavor of the honey pretzel rods made them taste just a bit different and were a fun variation to try!

Project #2: Game Day Crunch

The next project was to make game day crunch and I'm thinking it would make a fun dessert for a Superbowl party!

There were a ton of goodies in this crunch! First, my daughter dumped our bag of popcorn and pretzels into the bowl. We broke the pretzels into smaller pieces and then added the cup of mixed items and my son added a small cup of peanuts.

The mixed cup included M&M's, dried cranberries and candy-coated sunflower seeds. It was a fun and unique mix for sure, and when we added the remainder of our melted white chocolate and tossed it all together, it really brought out all of the great flavors!

We had to set it aside to set up a bit, but it didn't take long for it to be ready. The mix of all of the crunchy, sweet, salty bits was so yummy! It was also delicious and surprising whenever you got a nice bite of the tart cranberries in there, too. I could definitely see making this for a big party because it is so simple, yet would easily feed a large crowd if you made a bigger batch.

Project #3: New Year/Football Cookie Decorating

The last activity was the cookie decorating, which my kids always love!

We set out all of our supplies which included six regular sugar cookies and two very yummy chocolate football cookies. The icing we received was yellow, white, and blue and we received a cup of rainbow sprinkles and some blue ones as well.

The kids got to work and quickly covered their cookies and fingers (and faces!) in icing and sprinkles.

This little guy cheered us on, and I know he can't wait until he can join in the fun!

Here are all of our finished treats. We had a total of  8 cookies, 6 sparkler pretzels and a decent size pile of Gameday Crunch! It's always such a nice amount for our family since we each get a little bit, but it isn't too overwhelming.

I always appreciate the individual recipe cards for each project because they are easy to save and use again, which I plan on doing for making some more Gameday crunch!

Even though the kids used plenty of it, we almost always have a decent amount of icing leftover, which I appreciate! There's never a chance that we're going to run out.

Another thing I really appreciate is how easy it is to clean up afterward. I just fill our empty box with all of the empty containers and wrappers and put it in the recycle bin.  After a quick wipe of the table and the kids, we get to spend some time enjoying our finished products together with no pile of dirty dishes awaiting me like there would be if I had baked it all myself. It takes a lot of the stress out of it and allows me to spend that extra time with the kids!

Verdict: Receiving our Gramma In A Box each month has really become a tradition for the kids and I. It makes me so happy to see their reaction when I announce its arrival and I love that we all know what to expect and easily fall into a routine of creating the treats together. This box provides a built-in time for us to spend together without any added work for me. Instead, we just open the box, create and enjoy, and for me, as a parent, I am able to be much more relaxed instead of being stressed over the baking and cleaning up that would normally be involved. The box is always well organized and easy to complete with the step-by-step instructions they provide and it feels so homemade, yet they always make sure to include important ingredient and allergen information. This box costs $20 per month and for me, the value is in the quality time that the kids and I get to spend together without any planning or prep on my part.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
