Botanic + Terre Winter 2018 Review

Botanic + Terre announced back in October that they would be switching from bi-monthly to quarterly, and begin including more lifestyle items in addition to clean beauty. Their spoilers and cost of the new quarterly box seemed to change a few times so it sounds like they're still working out the kinks.

We are extremely excited to announce that Botanic+Terre is going bigger and better! What does that mean? It means we will be offering the best of luxury beauty, ethically made fashion pieces and sustainable home products all in one box.

We will only be releasing 4 boxes per year, so a new box for you every 3 months. This will lighten product load for you, so you’re not bombarded with too much and cut down on packaging material to better our environment.

For each new season, you will be getting 5-8 beautifully made products valued at over $250 for only $69.95 with Free Shipping to USA. Shipping includes a tracking number to know when your box has been shipped and when you will be receiving it. For international subscribers, shipping cost will be $21.99 with tracking number included.

Melie Bianco Aly Crossbody - Retail Value $59.80 (found here for $44.80)

I've been looking at the spoilers for this box since October and what I didn't realize is that it could come in black OR the maroon color I received. Of course, I was hoping for black so it was a slight disappointment for me. The bag itself is pretty nice even though I prefer real leather. If you don't like wearing leather, this is a great alternative and it seems well made. I do like the shape of it and it's big enough to hold the necessities (keys, phone, wallet, some makeup) but not so big that you'll get stuff lost in it. The strap is adjustable and it has a single inner zipper pocket to keep precious items. It does seem bigger on the model pic that Botanic + Terre used (which is from the Melie Bianco website) so I don't know if it's just a visual trick or the model is extremely petite. I'm pretty picky about my bags, so I will most likely find a new home for this one, but it is a nice quality for those who like vegan leather and want a color that isn't neutral.

Audre Leigh Botanical Candle in Sulpice, 4 oz. - Retail Value $18.00

I was also really excited about this candle but failed to notice that the scent was star of anise (with tangerine) which I am not a fan of at all, so that was a bummer. The other thing is that I was really into the shape of the container, only to find out that it's just the paper packaging for a normal glass container. The spoilers also showed the candle with a wood wick although they did state that the ones we'd receive would not have them, so that's fair. Overall, I was just hoping for a different scent and more unique vessel to reuse after burning, but I'll be passing this on to someone who appreciates it more.

Bella Aura Antioxidant Booster Serum, 1 oz. full size - Retail Value $105.00

I have received this brand in Botanic + Terre before so it's one I'm familiar with. Back in their March/April box, they included the Night Cellular Renewal cream which I loved and used religiously until I ran out a month or two ago. It lasted quite a long time, so I know this one will too. At first, I didn't like the scent (a light floral?), but it really grew on me and this one smells the same. This one is their Antioxidant Booster with key ingredients romarinic acid (which offers stronger antioxidant activity than vitamin E), rutin (to increase collagen production), and barley extract (which preserves skin elasticity). Overall, this promises to "Brighten, prevent, and protect" and should be applied twice a day before moisturizer. Basically, I'll be swapping out a serum for this a couple times a week to fit it into my regimen.

Bella Aura Daily Repair Moisturizer, 1 oz. full size - Retail Value $80.00

I was shocked to see a second Bella Aura product since they are so expensive. This one is a daily moisturizer which has key ingredients like black oats, lecithin, vitamin E, and daisy flower extract. The box says "Lift. Plump. Radiate." which are three things that are nice to have in a moisturizer and this also has the same scent I grew to love as their other products. Sadly, this doesn't contain SPF, so I'll need to follow up with some sunblock afterward, but I believe in this moisturizer and am excited to use it after cleansing each morning.

Marie Natie Lip Gloss in Tickled - Retail Value $13.62 USD ($18.00 CAD)

This lip gloss isn't listed as being in the box, but I'm guessing is a replacement for the Love Fresh Body Lotion or Nena Clay Mask that was supposed to come. No sweat, because I have both of those products still from previous boxes. The gloss is vegan, gluten-free and cruelty-free which is nice to know and comes in a 100% recycled paper tube. This strikes me as a more boutique beauty brand so I'm not familiar with it. The color is a bit too pink for me and the gloss is on the stickier side, so it's not the one for me. It smells really yummy though!

Verdict: Botanic + Terre's first quarterly box since they switched from bi-monthly and started going a little more lifestyle didn't exactly land for me personally. The value is pretty great seeing as though there is $276.42 worth of retail in this $69.95 box, but three of the five items weren't for me. The Bella Aura products still made it more than worth the cost since I like their products and they were the priciest items included. I'm interested to see how this new lifestyle-driven quarterly box goes though, so I'm looking forward to the next.

I love that bag!! I’d buy it from anyone who doesn’t want theirs, for $25 + shipping (since you’re paying $15 to get it in the box). jennifergbenson gmail.com

Yeah, I wouldn’t expect a leather bag from an all-natural ethical company. I’m not sure why the reviewer even brought that up.

I agree with the other commenter, pretty good shape for the handbag, and color and size, too. Not wild about the big circle ring on the strap (which brings attention to the waist!), but I would happily use it.

Marigold, since you got unnecessarily snarky about the reviewer, and Amber; I will point out that “Vegan leather” ie: Polyurethane, is the furtherest from natural one can find and terrible for the environment. Leather is actually about as “natural” a material as possible. At the very least, it biodegrades easily. That’s probably why, “the reviewer,” Marne, brought it up.
Please set you pretensions aside, there’s no need. 🙂

Wait, so leather isn’t all-natural, but polyurethane is? Kind of a head scratcher there 😋

You can find lots of dandruff shampoos on this site.

Love the fact the crossbody bag is made of vegan leather and the color is lovely, so difficult to get a bag in maroon!!

They do not ship to Bulgaria though 🙁 So many American & Canadian companies do not ship here… although I managed to convince two to do so and I am now subscribed to them 🙂

Hi Yurena,

This is Sandy at Botanic+Terre. I know this is kind of a late response, but I can look into opening up Bulgaria as a place that Botanic+Terre can ship to. We are always looking for ways to make our subscription available to more countries 🙂
