Yes, Oh Yas! November 2018 Review

This month includes two different types of highlighters, a lip palette, a brush, and a brow product:

info front info back

The included info card lists names and values for each item and gives you an idea of the theme "Girls Can". Just a note: I found some discrepancies between the values listed online and on this card. I included the current listed value online for you below. Here's what YOY says about their listed values:

What is the retail value and how is it calculated?

Yes, Oh Yas subscription retail value is based ONLY on original retail pricing of the items included for the month. Retail value prices are given to us by the company partners of the month and does not reflect price reductions, sale, or clearance. Original retail value pricing may not be displayed on the company's website. Retail value pricing are subject to change and Yes, Oh Yas has no control over decisions made by the company partners of the month.

Mirabella Brilliant Mineral Highlighter in Swirling Pearl, 7.5g - Retail Value $42 (found here for $10)

Oh no! Maybe this is why the fragile sticker was on the package. The pressed powder was broken when I unboxed it but since it wasn't shattered, I was able to fix it with the alcohol trick. It performed the same before the fix and after so I don't count this as a loss. Anyway, this highlighter has shades of shimmering pink and champagne swirled together with a buttery, almost creamy texture. It goes on intense and can be blended out as much as you like. I think it's probably best suited for light skin tones as a face highlighter.

Sorme brow highlighting pencil Sorme brow highlighting pencil detail

Sorme Brow Lift Highlighting Pencil in No. 30 White - Retail Value $15.99 (found here for $12.45), Listed Value $22

I'm a huge fan of highlighting the inner corners of my eyes for a quick pick-me-up. I've been loving pencil formulas lately since they are so easy to apply and then blend either with my fingertip or a brush. The soft white pencil applies smoothly and the cream-to-powder formula blends well. It doesn't last very long, but it's easy to touch up throughout the day.

liquid highlighter bottle liquid highlighter dropper

Beauty Creations Unicorn Tears Liquid Highlighter, 15ml - Estimated Value $2.50 (buy a 6-bottle set for $14.99), Listed Value $17

I don't think I'd actually use this to highlight my face since it has such a pink tone to it, but it looks lovely as a liquid eyeshadow and lasts all day without creasing. The dropper is a little gunky but I just drop some on my palette and then use a brush to pick it up and apply.

I'm not really sure what's going on with the pricing on this, but it looks like a 6 bottle set (of varying shades) is sold on the website which breaks down to $2.50 per bottle even though individual bottle isn't available.

Here are swatches of the highlighting products this month (from left to right): Unicorn Tears liquid highlighter (swatched and blended out), Sorme Brow Lift, and Mirabella Mineral highlighter.

Oval shadow brush Oval shadow brush detail

Crown Deluxe Badger Oval Shadow Brush BK40 - Retail Value $2.99 (found here for $2.09) Listed Value Value $19

So, I talked about applying the liquid highlighter to my lid using a brush. Conveniently, there is the perfect brush for the job included this month. The badger bristles are soft, short, and domed making it perfect for applying large washes of color to the whole lid. It would also work well to blend out the crease or to apply an eyeshadow primer.

This is another big value difference. The retail value is what is on the Crown site, so I went with that.

Aesthetica Lip Contour Kit Palette - Retail Value $40, Listed Value $45

Oh, la la! A lip contouring kit is something I do not own...until now. This is quite the package, complete with 4 shades of lip liner, 5 lip crémes, a lip highlighter, a lip brush, and an instruction booklet with lots of lip tips. While this is a little more extravagant than my everyday lip process, I'm actually really enjoying this palette. There are so many looks, from nude to bold, I can create. The lip pencils are creamy and long-wearing and the lip crémes are super pigmented and lightweight. I love that even as the créme wears off, it leaves a stain behind so I have color on my lips all day even if I don't reapply. The lip brush is even great! It has a nice size and a pointed shape to help achieve sharp lines.

I love the look I was able to create with the items from this month's Yes, Oh Yas! Let's start with eyes: I used the Crown brush to apply a wash of the Unicorn Tears liquid highlighter to my entire lid, diffusing the color toward the brow. Then I dusted a light layer of the Mirabella highlighter on top to set it. I swiped the Sorme Brow Lift under my brows and into the inner corner of my eyes and blended. I then hit the high points of my face with a fan brush loaded with some more Mirabella Highlighter. Lastly, I used the lip palette to create a subtle ombre lip look.

Verdict: Let's overlook the pricing weirdness for a second and recognize that this month of Yes, Oh Yas! is just downright fun! It has an estimated value of $103.48 which is great for a cost of $14.99 +$3.99 shipping. Now, even though the listed values and retail values I found were sometimes very different, I still think the value is great and the products are nice. It's disappointing that my highlighter was broken, but I was able to fix it and it is beautiful. This is a fun and inexpensive makeup subscription to choose if you like to be totally surprised each month.

It was in the penny and grace subscription box a few months back. Either October or November 2018. They might have it for sale on their website as a stand alone.

They need a better mailer for the make-up other than a bubble mailer…unless it is rigid? Can’t tell…

I keep hearing they list way higher prices all the time. And it doesn’t make much sense as to why? And for that reason, I will not be subscribing to this one. I also heard of really bad customer service.

I never got my 5 month gift and they ignored every message I sent about it. That was this past summer. I don’t have high hopes for the one year gift either.
