Whiskerbox November 2018 Review

Whiskerbox November 2018 - Booklet Front

One thing that’s great about Whiskerbox is the items are usually off the beaten path when it comes to cat subscriptions – you don’t see these anywhere else!  Let’s see what was in store this month:

Whiskerbox November 2018 - Booklet Front Back

This month the information card doesn’t contain a list of items.  Please note, this is the November box. Due to a postal strike in Canada and US mail delays from holiday shopping, this one didn’t come until pretty far in December.

Whiskerbox November 2018 - Almo Nature Rouge Label Tuna And Lobster Top

Almo Nature Rouge Label Tuna and Lobster (1.94 oz) – Buy 24 Pouches for $30

There is often a premium food in Whiskerbox.  This brand is totally new to me. It is stinky, as you might imagine, consisting of tuna and lobster.  But that made it quite attractive to my kitties (well, Sneaky, Monkey, and Madison, who are the ones without dietary restrictions).

Whiskerbox November 2018 - Knitted Hat Open Top

Knitted Hat

Whiskerbox also has one of these each month: knitted hat (possibly handmade?) for cats, bowtie/collar combo for cats, and costume for cats.  This month it was a knitted hat. These are exclusive to Whiskerbox so it is hard to find a value. You can see a few kitties wearing this below.

Whiskerbox November 2018 - KONG Active Mega Feather Ball Open Top

KONG Active Mega Feather Ball – Retail Value $11.93

Angus and Madison liked this because FEATHERS.  It has a lightweight plastic ball and the feathers do seem securely attached.  It also makes a sound, so I have put it in our home office where Angus can play with it at night, without bothering us.

Whiskerbox November 2018 - Earthbath Cat Shampoo in Light Wild Cherry Close Top Whiskerbox November 2018 - Earthbath Cat Shampoo in Light Wild Cherry Open Front

Earthbath Cat Shampoo in Light Wild Cherry (about 2 fl oz?) – Buy 16 fl oz for $13.31 (found here for $8.18)

I can’t imagine buying a full-sized cat shampoo as it would take about 10 years to use up, but I do like having a little bit around because every now and then, someone needs cleaning. This is usually Monkey (who, coincidentally, is also the only one I can bathe without injuring myself). This does have a nice scent and is also supposed to help condition the coat.

Here are some kitty photos:

Whiskerbox November 2018 - Sneaky Front

Sneaky was also willing to give the feathers a thorough inspection.

Whiskerbox November 2018 - Sparkles Front

Mr. Kitty looks especially pathetic in the hat.  (He doesn’t like it when I clean off his eye discharge so I pretty much leave it alone.  It looks worse than it is. Rest assured he is under the care of a veterinary ophthalmologist and gets tons of eye drops every day.)

Verdict:I could not calculate a total value for the November 2018 Whiskerbox.  The toy was $11.93, leaving $38.02 for the month-to-month subscription price.  We can estimate the food to be about $1.25 for one pouch and the shampoo to be about $3.33, based on prices for the full-sized packaging, now leaving $33.44 for the hat.  In past months, when a price for the hats has been provided, it’s been around $35. So you’re coming out about even (and don’t forget, this comes with free shipping from Canada, which is not cheap).  I personally love the hats (not sure my cats feel the same way) and I have never tried either the shampoo or the food on my cats before, and Angus liked the toy, so content-wise, this was a good box for us.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this was October’s box.  Whiskerbox ships on the 15th of the month so if you sign up before then (assuming they haven’t sold out), you would get November’s box as your first box.

Value Breakdown:

At $49.95 for this box, the per-item average value is about $12.49.  This is about right for the toy, though I’d put the hat at 2-3 times that much and the shampoo and food at quite a bit less.

The hat! My cat would never put up with putting him in a hat, so I love to live vicariously through your kitties. Adorable, as always.
