December 2018 Men’s Target Beauty Box Review
My fiancé, Ryan, is helping me to review this box by testing all of these manly products and giving me his take on each product’s performance. He doesn’t have an overwhelming beauty routine, but he is a total pro on all the basics thanks to Birchbox Man.
The Men’s Target box features a lot of everyday products, mixing it up between well-known and newer, trendier brands:
The box comes with a little information about each item along with a $3 coupon off a personal care purchase of $15 or more.
Degree for Men Black & White UltraClear Antiperspirant, 1oz - Estimated Value $1.71 (Buy 2.8oz for $4.79)
Usually, I am not a fan of the scent of men’s deodorant, but I really like this masculine, woodsy scent. Ryan was pretty skeptical when he saw that this was a spray deodorant, but after smelling the fragrance and giving it a true test in the gym, he was on board! After about an hour at the gym, he said, in so many words, that this deodorant kept him fresh as a daisy until his next shower.
Harry’s Shiso Body Wash, 2 fl oz - Estimated Value $0.87 (Buy 16oz for $6.99)
This 2oz bottle is a great sample size! Ryan has been a fan of Harry’s for a while now, so this body wash is an awesome pick for him. The scent, Shiso, is a subtle blend of refreshing herbs that doesn’t stay with you to mingle with your cologne after you wash it off. This formula does not contain sulfates, parabens or dyes and is very gentle on the skin.
Crest Gum Detoxify Toothpaste, .85oz - Estimated Value $1.45 (Buy 4.1oz for $6.99)
We usually try to use more natural toothpaste, but we tend to mix it up when we are on vacation and when both of us forget to pick up a new tube, cue this and our stash of sample tubes! My mouth feels squeaky clean from using this refreshing toothpaste; it even has a little grit to it for an extra tingly clean. The cooling activated foam is also supposed to help penetrate hard to reach areas to promote clean and healthy gums.
Dove Men+Care Body Wash Minerals + Sage, 1.8 fl oz - Estimated Value $0.60 (Buy 18oz for $5.99)
This is Ryan’s go to body wash, so he was pretty excited to get a mini to take along in his gym bag. It cleans without stripping the skin, and the piney, sage scent is very pleasant and not overbearing, unlike many body washes for men.
Cremo Bourbon & Oak Solid Cologne, .25oz - Estimated Value $8.33 (Buy .45oz for $14.99)
Ryan is a bit of a cologne snob and wasn’t excited to try this affordable solid version, but he was shocked at how much he loved the scent. It has notes of oak and bourbon and smells soft yet masculine. The tin packaging will be handy when traveling, and this solid seems to be less irritating than your average spray cologne to use after shaving.
Bulldog Skincare Sachet Perforated Trio:
Bulldog Original Shave Gel, .13 fl oz - Estimated Value $0.35 (Buy 3.3oz for $8.99)
Bulldog Original Face Wash, .14 fl oz - Estimated Value $0.17 (Buy 5oz for $5.99)
Bulldog Original Moisturiser, .06 fl oz - Estimated Value $0.16 (Buy 3.3oz for $8.59)
Bulldog is a new brand to test for Ryan, and he excited to try them since their products do not have any artificial colors, fragrances or animal ingredients. All three of these products have an herbal fragrance to them, though, which Ryan was not a fan of. The face wash made his face feel dry and tight, and there wasn’t enough shave gel included to really test it out. Although he wasn’t a fan of the scent, the moisturizer “did its job” but he would have preferred a larger size to sample.
The Verdict: This box has a total value of $13.64, which is almost double the $7.00 cost, including free shipping. Target Beauty Box is so great if you love to sample different brands on the cheap. This was my fiancé, Ryan’s, first Target Beauty Box, and he was really excited that this month’s refreshing picks allowed him to upgrade the products in his gym bag. He was also happy to broaden his horizons by trying out some new products instead of the same old each day.
