Rescue Box is a subscription box for dogs or cats. For dogs, choose from small (up to 20 pounds), medium (20-50 pounds), and large (50+ pounds). This is a review of the large dog box. For reference, my dog Nyx is an 84-pound Rottweiler. Rescue box is associated with Greater Good (the folks who brought you The Hunger Site, The Animal Rescue Site, and more) and your purchase of a subscription will help provide food and vaccines to shelter pets!

Rescue Box November 2018 Review

This box is pretty reliably holiday-themed in months where there is a major holiday occurring, though this month it was football instead of Thanksgiving:

I did not receive an information card this month.

Rescue Box November 2018 Review - Doggyloot Bully Sticks Packet FrontRescue Box November 2018 Review - Doggyloot Bully Sticks Packet Back

Doggyloot Bully Sticks, 6” (3 pack) – Estimated Value $12

We received a 3-pack of bully sticks last month, too. These were “Doggyloot” branded, and I couldn’t find 6” bully sticks on the Doggyloot site, but these look very similar to the Rescue Box branded sticks from last month (and I think Rescue Box is associated with Doggyloot in some way) so I’ve used that value. These are supposed to be low-odor and come from free-range South American cattle.

Rescue Box November 2018 Review - Petsport Flea Flicker Football Top

Petsport Flea Flicker Football – Retail Value $11

This was one of several football-themed items for the month. Nyx is usually only interested in toys like this if there is food involved, but there are these dehydrated sweet potatoes she likes that are a good size for fitting in here without falling out too easily, so we tried that. She still needs a little help understanding treat-distributing toys, but we’re working on it.

Rescue Box November 2018 Review - Multipet Ruff Enuff Multi-Armor Football Top

Multipet Ruff Enuff Multi-Armor Football

I just couldn’t find this online for retail sale; sometime Multipet items are like that (I know, since they come in both cat and dog subscription boxes all the time). Anyway, there is a softer, stuffed football with an outer armor football cage/shell, and Nyx really enjoyed trying to get the softer football out (though she hasn’t been able to yet).

Rescue Box November 2018 Review - Loving Pets Natural Value Chicken Nuggets Top

Loving Pets Natural Value Chicken Nuggets (1.5 oz) – Retail Value $6

I am going to have to pass these along to another dog owner because they have both chicken and whole wheat flour, neither of which Nyx can have. (They’re probably not suitable for a lot of dogs with food allergies, but Rescue Box doesn’t have a “no treats” option, as far as I know.) These are made in the USA. I think the price is a bit high for only 1.5 oz of treats, to be honest, but everything in the Rescue Box store seems to have free shipping, and I think they are just adding shipping costs into the item price.

Rescue Box November 2018 Review - Football Dog Treat Top

Football Dog Treat – Retail Value $7

Truthfully, I find $7 a bit high for a single dog cookie (about the size of a standard human cookie). Unfortunately, I am also going to have to keep this one away from Nyx, because while it is made in the USA and is wheat and corn free, I can’t find a full ingredients list anywhere, so I just don’t know what else it is made from. (Nyx can have some things that can be made into cookies, like squash, beans/legumes/nuts including peanut butter, sweet potatoes, chickpeas, etc., so some dog cookies will work for her, but I just don’t know if this is one of them.)

Here are some pictures of Nyx with the Multipet football toy. As I suspected, she was very interested in getting the softer football out from the rubber “cage” (but so far, she has been unsuccessful).

Verdict: I couldn’t find one of the items for sale online so I wasn’t able to calculate a total value for the November Rescue Box There were five items, so the average cost per item is $5.99. Although I think some of the prices for items in the Rescue Box store are inflated, I think overall, you are probably doing a little better than $30 in value here. I wasn’t sure what I thought about getting so many items meant to look like footballs, but then I realized that Nyx has no idea about that, and they’re all different to her in terms of texture, size, and ways to play with them..

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box would be December's.

Value Breakdown: At a box price of $29.95, you are paying approximately $5.99 per item.
