Meowbox December 2018 Review

Meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes.

Meowbox December 2018 - Booklet Front

Meowbox December 2018 - Booklet Back

The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had a holiday theme.

Meowbox December 2018 - Hat

Elf Hat Catnip Toy

I think I must’ve been one of the first people to get the December box because it looks like last month’s items are still up at the URL given on the information card, so I haven’t provided any prices here. Anyway, this is a catnip toy with something crinkly inside (it is not really big enough to put on a cat’s head). It is pretty lightweight and my kitties were up for rubbing their chins on it.

Meowbox December 2018 - Peppermint

Peppurrmint Candy Toy

This was a hit, but I suspected it would be due to the dangling ribbon things. Angus liked it and Sneaky swatted it right out of my hand and stole it for herself (naturally when the camera wasn’t on). This is a small catnip plush.

Meowbox December 2018 - Snow Globe

The Empurrium Handmade Catnip Snow Globe Toy

This is a handmade felt catnip toy with no extra stuffing (though it seems durable so hopefully that won’t be an issue). My cats like the texture of the felt.

Meowbox December 2018 - Treats 1

Meowbox December 2018 - Treats 2

Caledon Farms Beef Liver Bites, 0.75 oz

You’ll get treats like this fairly often in Meowbox. These are tiny cubes of freeze-dried beef liver. I let Sneaky and Madison eat out of the carton since I was worried about getting bitten. They both enjoyed these. Monkey didn’t really care, and of course, Mr. Kitty and Angus have dietary issues.

Meowbox December 2018 - Wand

Kiss Me Meow Mistletoe Wand

This was a huge hit and I probably got the best pictures with it. Angus loved it and, don’t tell Sneaky, but she liked the same toy as Angus (even though she doesn’t like Angus…). I guess they were in the mood for playing when I had the camera out, and you can see some of the results below.

Gratuitous cat photos:

Meowbox December 2018 - Angus 5

Angus was really into this box’s items. He gets pretty excited whenever I open any box, though, even if it’s not for cats.

Meowbox December 2018 - Madison 1

Madison mostly wanted to be left alone, but he did like the treats.

Meowbox December 2018 - Monkey 1

Meowbox December 2018 - Monkey 2

Monkey got up on the table where I was taking pictures to rub his face on things. (That’s the snow globe toy in the second picture; it’s kind of hard to see.)

Meowbox December 2018 - Sneaky Madison

Sharing treats.

Meowbox December 2018 - Sneaky 1

This picture makes me giggle.

Meowbox December 2018 - Sneaky 2

Meowbox December 2018 - Sneaky 3

Meowbox December 2018 - Sneaky 4

Sneaky mostly lives for food (here in this last photo she’s so enthusiastic she bit the carton) but she did show more interest than usual in the toys this month.

Meowbox December 2018 - Sparkles 1

Mr. Kitty was sleepy so I posed him with a toy. His eye is actually doing well, it’s his ointment that makes the discharge look bad. He goes back to the veterinary ophthalmologist this week. (And, woohoo, he gained 1.5 pounds so he is back up to where he was before diabetes kicked in.)

Verdict: I couldn’t calculate a total value for the December Meowbox since the items were not yet up at the URL listed on the information card (they’re mostly custom-made for this box). But, I’d say these box contents were representative of what you’d receive in a typical month and everything was a hit with at least one (usually more than that) cat.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? I feel like this box came super early for me (earlier than their usual shipping time) so it’s possible you would. Otherwise, watch the Meowbox site as some of the individual items may go on sale.

My cats loved The Empurrium Handmade Catnip Snow Globe Toy but I got a different treat.

Hope your kitty gets better soon! Love all the cat pics! Thanks for doing this review – I have been trying to pick a subscription for the kitten I just got. It seems wrong that my dogs get barkbox every month and the kitty gets nothing!

Cat photos are the best! What happened to your cat’s eye?

Ragan

The one eye that is missing, ruptured last year (he has eye herpes but is on immune-suppressing medicines for his inflammatory bowel disease, and couldn’t fight a flare-up of the virus) so we had to have it removed.

The other eye, it’s just his usual discharge, it just looks a little scary due to some ointment he was on and the fact that he was wearing a cone so he couldn’t clean himself. He is doing better and will come out of the cone sometime next week, most likely. (We went to the veterinary ophthalmologist on Wednesday and she said his cornea looked better than it had in months.)
