Julep December 2018 Review

Julep December 2018 - Information Card

This box came with an info sheet highlighting the new shades of eyeliner that became available this month.

One of the options this month was Julep’s Light on Your Lips crème lipstick and we received a sheet with more information on the shades. I decided to go the fully customized route this month, so let’s see what I picked!

Julep December 2018 - Emme Box Top Julep December 2018 - Emme Opened Top

Julep Emme, Full-Size! Retail Value $14

Emme is a deep cobalt crème polish that I tend to always reach for in the winter months- it’s darker than my usual choices but the blue is still vibrant. This polish didn’t have the best formula, and I had to use more effort than normal to make sure my polish was applied smoothly and evenly.

Julep December 2018 - Lennon with Box Top Julep December 2018 - Lennon Opened Top

Julep Lennon, Full-Size! Retail Value $14

Lennon is described as a "galactic holographic shimmer" and I adore the punch of sparkle this packs. I was worried when I applied this to my bare nail because the first coat was VERY sheer (as in, it could be a glitter topper for a different polish), but after three thin coats, I had beautifully opaque sparkle.

Julep December 2018 - Color Fan Top

Julep Color Fan x 2 – Total Retail Value $16 ($8 each)

I chose to add these to my box this month more as a matter of necessity- sometimes I just don’t have time to swatch every nail polish for reviews, and I thought these would be perfect for when I need them. They do take some getting used to- I tried to swatch multiple colors at one time and they ended up smudging on top of themselves, so these will probably work best with only swatching one color at a time. I was happy that I was able to pick up two in this box, too!

Julep December 2018 - Snowflake Top Julep December 2018 - Snowflake Instruction Top

Snowflake Nail Decals – Estimated Value $4

I love nail decals for easy and quick nail art, and I really love snowflakes! Snowflakes can be hard to do freehand due to the tiny details, so I was excited to add these to my box. I haven’t seen Julep sell nail decals as a standalone item in their store, so I think mystery boxes and the Maven subscription are really the only ways to get them. Unlike last month I had no issues with these lifting off my nail- my coat of Seche Vite sealed them in perfectly, and over three days later they are still going strong.

Julep December 2018 - Product used Top

Here I am wearing Emme, Lennon, and the nail decals. I think this is such a fun wintery look!

Verdict: Without a doubt, my favorite thing about Julep Maven is your ability to completely customize your box. Snowflake nail decals and color fans may not be your cup of tea, but you can choose to go for a makeup item or another nail polish. The customization also means you should be getting shades that you're most likely to wear! I had to estimate the value of the nail decals since they're not for sale, but the value of my two polishes and the color fans equal $44 - I think that is great for the $24.99 price, and the value is even better if you take advantage of the 3-month subscription for $19.99 a box rate.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. You have to sign up by the 20th to get the next month’s box. Then on the 24th, you’ll be able to sign into your Julep Maven account and select the items you want for your box!

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I am worried about the late shipping for 2 months in a row!!! I love so many of their products and have been with them for years. The past few months I haven’t been impressed with their colors choices either.

I almost never wear polish, but I love their facial cleansers – especially the cleansing stick. It does a great job (though use their cleansing oil first if you are wearing makeup). Plus, because it’s a stick, it’s great for travel.

I’ve had a lot of issues with Juleps cream polishes. Also with their top coats drying out. The shimmers and glitters are usually great. I’m conflicted because I love customizing, and I fall in love with their colors so I keep trying, even though my success is usually mixed. I also haven’t been super impressed with their makeup, even though I know I’m in the minority with that opinion. But I haven’t tried any eye makeup, so I probably will try an eyeliner or shadow next month.

I’m in the same bost. I have a ton of Julep polishes that I simply stopped using because they don’t dry, peel off, and are overall hard to use. I do love their foundation though.
