Julep Living Large Mystery Box Review

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Balm 1

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Balm 2

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Balm 3

It’s Balm Full-Coverage Lip Crayon in Fuchsia Berry Cream, Full-Size! Retail Value $20

This is a vivid magenta cream lip color that works as an insanely pigmented lip balm for me. It is made with sunflower butter and Vitamin E, and this color will transfer. If you’re looking for some hydrating lip colors, this would be worth checking out.

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Eyeliner 1

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Eyeliner 2

When Pencil Met Gel Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Galaxy, Full-Size! Retail Value $16

I really like the gel pencil eyeliners from Julep - I find them to be creamy and buttery to apply, you can blend them out, and it will stay put! Galaxy is a black amethyst shimmer, but unfortunately, the purple tones don’t show up in real life like they do on the website. Bummer, because I would have loved that!

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Velvet 1

Feels Like Velvet Full-Coverage Eyeshadow Duo in 5th Ave and Broadway, Full-Size! Retail Value $24

Julep eyeshadows are one product I haven’t really tried from them, so I was happy to see this baby palette containing a dup of super wearable shades. 5th Ave is a light matte peach and Broadway is a rose gold shimmer, and each shade can be worn alone or together depending on the look you are going for. The pigment is a bit sheer that can be built up, but I don’t really think it fits the “full-coverage” name.

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Swatches

Here are the shadows swatched above the eyeliner and the lip balm.

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Brow 1

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Brow 2

Lock Down Your Brows Iconic Brow Gel, Full-Size! Retail Value $22

I am pretty low maintenance when it comes to my brows - I usually do a few swipes of my gimme brow and call it a day. This clear gel can be worn alone to help define and shape, and it can also be used to set your brows if you’ve shaded them in. This didn’t leave my brows crunchy, which is a big selling point for me when it comes to a brow gel.

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Cozette 1

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Cozette 2

Julep Nail Polish in Cozette, Full-Size! Retail Value $14

Cozette is a peacock teal shimmer that I absolutely adore! The formula applied perfectly with no pooling and it is the shade that is adorning all ten of my fingers as I type this review!

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Kayleigh 1

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Kayleigh 2

Julep Nail Polish in Kayleigh, Full-Size! Retail Value $14

Kayleigh is a holly berry iridescent shimmer- aka it is a great holiday red with a hint of sparkle! This had a great formula and applied effortlessly with two coats.

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Rosemary

Julep Nail Polish in Rosemary, Full-Size! Retail Value $14

Rosemary is called a modern brick cream, but to me, it leans a lot more camel-brown than brick red. Almost all cream polishes I have tried from Julep had great formulas, and this is no exception.

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Tazi

Julep Nail Polish in Tazi, Full-Size! Retail Value $14

I absolutely love this shade! One of my all-time favorite polishes from Julep is Claudia, and this is like a less glittery sister! This is described as a holographic iridescent lime, and I was surprisingly pleased with the opacity at two coats- I thought this would need to be layered or require three coats, but two did the job for me. One coat of this layered over a dark green would be absolutely dreamy, too.

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Jane 1

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Jane 2

Julep Nail Polish in Jane, Full-Size! Retail Value $14

Jane is described as a full-coverage rose gold glitter, but I would say it leans more copper. It took 3 coats for me to build up to full opacity, which means the polish started to get a little thick and it took forever to dry. I would recommend using this with a copper base coat polish, and then one coat should provide enough glitter without becoming thick. You can see Jane swatched here in my 12-piece gift review.

Julep Living Large Mystery Box - Nails

Here are the rest of my swatches! From left to right we have Cozette, Tazi, Kayleigh, and Rosemary.

Verdict: This Julep Living Large Mystery Box had a great mix of fun nail polish shades and new beauty products! I was also pleasantly surprised that there were no duplicates between this box and the Julep Small Delights Mystery Box that was offered at the same time as this one. Value-wise, Julep promised a $150 value and by my math, they beat that with a total value of $152. If you have been curious about trying Julep, their mystery boxes are really a great way to try out products from the brand for a fraction of the cost.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this is no longer available.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $34.98 ($29.99 + $4.99 shipping), and I calculated a value of $152. That means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Lip Crayon: $4.60
  • Eyeliner: $3.68
  • Eyeshadow: $5.52
  • Brow Gel: $5.06
  • Cozette: $3.22
  • Kayleigh: $3.22
  • Rosemary: $3.22
  • Tazi: $3.22
  • Jane: $3.22

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Crazy, this is the first time I received totally different, yet beautiful polishes, than in this case Jessica, our reviewer. I received Boho April(nice pinkish red), Trixy(gorgeous purple sparkly topper),It Girl Margit(lighter swirly purplish), and Bombshell Jan( again purple swirly, glittery and lovely) and a gorgeous Ariel( teal sparkle topper). I adore toppers and even if I already have one of these, it’s a basic that will be great for Spring/Summer. Love me my Julep mystery boxes- although as someone pointed out, I would love more skincare products in the future.

I got the same box as you for my large. But the same box as reviewer for my small.

I get my box Friday. Bought all 3. Some people mentioned getting 6 polishes in the large but either was it’s a great box. I also ended up getting the coveted trio on sale, a mystery duo and a couple $2 add on polishes. I’m set for the year. Though I will probably buy the 10 for 20 mystery if they do that again.

Oooh Tazi is basically the light green color I kept hoping to see come up as an add-on back when I was subscribed! I never saw a light green though – I think I ended up grabbing Gemini? or something that was a bit darker.

But Julep polishes just don’t work for me (for some odd reason the oxygen treatments and polishes destroy my nail health) and for every nice formula I got there was three gloppy or streaky ones. So it’s probably for the best, no matter how pretty a color is it isn’t worth nail chips, breakage, and grooves.

I really appreciate that MSA reviews these… it used to be so much easier to find spoilers, but I feel like the community around Julep (the Maven program) really has been wound down since I joined.

The last time I got a mystery box was in 2012 (which shows you how long I’ve been around! ha!). I wish they put more of their skincare stuff into their mystery boxes, which I actually use up and need more of, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that was where they made most of their money these days. I already have most of the colors I’ve wanted and I like so few of their specific makeup items I just tend to buy what I want straight-up instead of getting a ton of products I’m not sure about.

Anyway, I’m always still curious. There’ve been a couple of colors that went with the box I really liked, but they’re almost individually for sale afterwards if you’re strong enough to hold off.

I do wish they would offer the best deals through their own sites though… I saw that they had GMA Deals of their mini holiday polish sets for $20 when the lowest they’d dropped them to even on Black Friday. They jack up the prices in order implement the 50% off… which anyone can see if they’ve been on the site in the previous days. It just comes off as disingenuous and annoying.

I love the Cozette.

Someone said in your last review of small box that there were 6 polishes in large box. But I still think this is a great box. I bought all 3 and tracking shows that it will be here on Dec 7th. I ordered through coveted trio also on sale plus 6 polish set for $30. And a mystery duo add on plus 2 add of polish that were $2 each. I think I will be set for the year. Though I’m a sucker for mystery boxes. And if they do the 10 for 20 like last year I may buy that. I can always gift dublicates to my bestie and sis in law.
