Cat Lady Box December 2018 Review

Cat Lady Box is always full of fun, cat-themed lifestyle items. Let’s see what was in store for December:

Cat Lady Box December 2018 - Booklet Front

Cat Lady Box December 2018 - Booklet Back

I love how the information cards have custom artwork every month. And the back has more information about the items in the box. This is a holiday-themed box.

Cat Lady Box December 2018 - Tumbler

Glitter Cat Travel Tumbler – Listed Value $17.99

Lately, I have been buying hot tea at the gas station before going grocery shopping and they’ve been putting out Styrofoam cups and I’d really prefer to drink out of something more environmentally-friendly and this tumbler seems like just the thing. I’m sure they’ll let me fill it with tea and just pay the large coffee price or something and then I’m not throwing Styrofoam away anymore. So this comes at a good time for me.

Cat Lady Box December 2018 - Snowman

Sam the Snowman Catnip Toy – Listed Value $5.99

This is a long toy, but not too heavy, so it can still be tossed around and/or wrestled with. It is a catnip plush and my cats were interested in rubbing their faces on it, so I guess the catnip is good?

Cat Lady Box December 2018 - Tree

Meowlidays Tree Catnip toy – Listed Value $4.99

Here is the second toy for the month. Although it also has catnip, the main draw for my crew was the end with the feathers. Feathers are hugely popular among my kitties.

Cat Lady Box December 2018 - Case 1

Cat Lady Box December 2018 - Case 2

Sweet Cat Card Holder – Listed Value $14.99

I have wanted something like this for a while. I have a lot of clutches (thanks, subscription boxes) and if I want to take one of those out with me, but still have some ID and a credit card, but I can’t fit a full-sized wallet in there, now I can just put a few cards in this and throw it in the clutch and I am good to go. (I don’t know what it is made of but there is no chemical smell or anything like that.)

Cat Lady Box December 2018 - Jacket 1

Cat Lady Box December 2018 - Jacket 4

Cat Lady Zip Jacket – Listed Value $32.99

I have two zip-up hoodies from Cat Lady Boxes in years past, and I wear them all the time – at home in my PJs in the living room, out grocery shopping, during morning yoga when my exercise room is too cold, etc. Now I can add this one to the mix. (If you’re wondering why you don’t see my bottom half in the last two pictures, it’s because I was wearing my November Unique Vintage dress under the jacket and it was an odd visual…) Despite the fact that there are sequins on the back, this says it can be machine washed. Also, I know I usually say the shirts from this box are a bit large (they don’t offer XS in sizing), but getting an S worked out perfectly for this jacket since it’s appropriately sized for me to wear over something (even something with longer sleeves).

Here’s the crew with the toys from the box. Angus was the most playful, but the others were usually up for sniffing or rubbing their faces on the toys. Mr. Kitty was sleepy and cranky but he has earned that; he’s been through a lot lately. (But he gained back 1.5 pounds, all the weight he lost prior to his diabetes diagnosis, so that’s great!)

Verdict: I calculated a value of $76.95 for the December 2018 (Crazy) Cat Lady Box. That is quite a high value for the box and, even if you think one or two values are inflated, I feel like you’re still getting your money’s worth. The big-ticket items for this month were all useful to me for various reasons and my cats liked rubbing their faces on the toys (for my cats, most of whom are seniors, this is about as good as it gets when it comes to toys), so this was a good box for us.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Officially your subscription would start with January’s box, but way back when I signed up, I was contacted to say there were a few of the current month’s box left over and asked if I’d like one of those. So it may be worth inquiring.

Value Breakdown: At a price of $39.99 for this box, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Tumbler $9.35
  • Snowman toy $3.11
  • Tree toy $2.59
  • Card holder $7.79
  • Jacket $17.14

This was my first box and I really enjoyed getting it! I agree that the jacket seems to run small. I’ve ordered some t-shirts separately from them before and they seemed to run big, so that was unexpected. I considered sizing down- glad I didn’t!

I was really disappointed when my tumbler broke 2 days after receiving it. This was my favorite thing in the box because I could use it every morning for my coffee at work. I went to twist the lid off and the plastic broke. I figured it was a long shot emailing customer service since it didn’t arrive broken, but I thought I’d at least try.

I got an email back within a couple of days offering a replacement, and it’s already on it’s way! Excellent customer service!

My kitty was interested in the toys for about 2 minutes and hasn’t touched them since, so I decided to change my subscription to the cheaper box that doesn’t contain the cat toys for next month.

Today’s shop sale is on their hoodies, t-shirts, and tank tops. It’s a really good sale; I’ve ordered some gifts! Shipping is free with an order over $35. and code HOLIDAYSHIP.

The sizing for the jacket seems to run small, because their large sizes usually fit me perfectly, but the jacket was a bit snug on me when zipped.

Also, my tumbler came in a sparkly silver instead of gold. I thought the design of the cover was clever too – there is a sliding tab that covers both the drinking hole and the smaller air pressure hole when you close it. Most tumblers like this usually don’t cover the smaller hole, so it seems to keep hot drinks a bit hotter for longer.

Ah, usually their smalls are too big for me, but they don’t offer XS, so the small jacket actually worked really well. But I can see how that wouldn’t be the case for a lot of people, if you actually order the size you wear instead of one up like I have to.

Hope Mr. Kitty feels better soon. Poor baby.

He had a not-very-fun morning. Yesterday there was an incident that made me think he needed to go to the vet. So we went, and we got:

*sufalcrate (to coat the esophagus and promote healing from his acid reflux problem)
*potassium powder (since he has a huge water intake due to prednisolone and diabetes)
*metronidazole (for intestinal issues)
*cerenia (to prevent vomiting)
*different brand of kaolin/pectin paste (also for intestinal issues)

Then, we went directly to the veterinary ophthalmologist’s office, where we had a change in our usual medication instructions to see if we can reduce the eye irritation (his cornea is looking great, the irritation is *around* the eye). Now he is back home and sleeping and we will see. (We also have a new food on the way, which may help some of his GI issues, and I am going to do a glucose curve to see if we can track his nausea with his blood sugar, which would give better clues in how to treat.)

He still wanders the house, climbs the stairs, jumps up on the bed, sleeps in warm spots, and sits in my lap and purrs, so even though he doesn’t look so great, he still has decent quality of life — we just need to control his symptoms.

Oh hey there…don’t mind me, I’m just here for the gratuitous kitty pics ;-). I don’t sub to this box because I already have a massive amount of cat-related stuff…but I did just place a large order with them when they had a big sale, and am eagerly waiting for it!

I hope Mr. Kitty feels better.
