December 2018 Bookroo Picture Book Review
I love the festive paper this month!
Bookroo always includes an insert that gives a brief description of some of the books and they also included a little Meet the Author section this month.
Pigloo by Anne Marie Pace - Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $16.71)
This book stars Pigloo who is a young explorer planning an expedition to the North Pole and has some big ideas about what he will find there. His older sister is not very encouraging and seems to view him as childish as she reminds him that the North Pole has already been discovered.
Pigloo says he knows a different way to get there and he has everything he needs in order to make the trek, but he just needs to wait for the first snowfall before he can begin his journey. In the end, his sister does show up and even teaches him a shortcut home while also making his trip just a bit more special. It's a sweet story about how an older sibling might care for their younger sibling and I found it especially sweet to read with my oldest daughter.
How to Build a Snow Bear by Eric Pinder - Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $16.14)
Thomas can't wait to get home after school to begin building a snowman after a big blizzard covers his yard with snow. He works at building a snowman, but can't quite get the head on without some help so he heads home to wake the sleeping bear.
The sleeping bear is hibernating and wants to stay inside and stay warm so he has a difficult time trying to wake him. Eventually, he is able to wake the snow bear, which is actually his younger brother and together they build the best snow bear ever. This is another cute story involving siblings working together and is a perfect winter story!
Verdict: As a mother of three, I appreciated that our Bookroo books involved siblings and the sweeter side of their relationships. I also loved the snowy themes with Pigloo searching for the North Pole and Thomas building a snow bear. They are cute books that are perfect for reading together this winter. This box costs $24.95 ($19.95 a month + $5 shipping) and the retail value of our books is $33.98 and I think that's a great value for the books that we received.
