Siberian Fir Essential Oil, 10 ml - Listed Value $10.00

"Enlighten" Essential Oil, 10 ml - Listed Value $10.00

One of the things I look forward to most from Bombay & Cedar are the essential oils! You always get a pair and this month we have incredibly seasonally appropriate fir oil. My husband loves an evergreen smell in our house during the holidays and this is a much more natural alternative than most candles you find in stores right now. A few drops in my diffuser have the whole house smelling festive! Combine with cinnamon oil to up the holiday spirit even more. The other selection this month is a beautiful "Enlighten" oil blend with spearmint, germanium, and chamomile. It smells very minty and fresh.

I have to admit that I didn't realize cashews had skins. They are generally removed before we eat them, but the skins are delicious and add to the nuts nutritional value. These nuts come in a few different flavors, but my bag was the most simple salted version. They were absolutely delicious and a very high quality on the go snack.

52 Relaxing Rituals Cards by Lynn Gordon- Retail Value $6.95

The holiday season is SO busy! We an all use a little reminder here and there to relax. This would be a great gift for a chronically stressed out friend who could use a prompt on exactly how to relax.  Some of these cards are pretty expected, like the nap card. Others were really unique and imaginative, such as the bread baking card. I have found that baking bread can absolutely be relaxing unless you burn it. Then well... My favorite card was the "call forwarding" card. It suggested if you cannot give up your phone entirely, that when it rings instead of flailing around for it like a madman, take a nice leisurely stroll over to it and let it ring a few times. It is a super small thing, but it puts the importance of a call in perspective.

Turmeric Latte Mix, 2.74 oz - Retail Value $16.95, Listed Value $16.50

I have been trying to give up caffeine. It has been awful. I have been testing new drink alternatives in the morning and I really enjoyed this with warm almond milk and some honey. Is it a Red Bull? NO. But it is so much better for me, is energizing, and still feels like a special treat in the morning. It is also the happiest color in my glass mug. You can have this hot or cold and this company donates a portion of its proceeds to youth leadership programs. That is a win-win!

Bombay and Cedar cozy body polish Bombay and Cedar cozy body polish info Bombay and Cedar cozy body polish detail

Grapefruit + Bergamot Body Polish, 8 oz - Retail Value $12.50

This is a really large pot of body scrub! It also smells like grapefruit and bergamot which is a winning combination! Something about bergamot instantly puts me in a good mood and the grapefruit scent is very energizing. I always prefer a sugar scrub over a salt scrub, as I find the sugar much less drying. This was a smaller grain sugar that felt nice against my arms and legs. Sometimes the bigger granules can actually really hurt. I like to keep sugar scrubs constantly in my shower because my husband is a fan, so I am always happy to get them in boxes.

Bombay and Cedar cozy cotton throw Bombay and Cedar cozy throw

Two's Company Cozy Throw - Listed Value $39.00

You may have noticed the box this month was especially large. That is because the folks at Bombay & Cedar decided we all deserved huge throw blankets this month! I am thrilled. I live with a man who thinks 65 degrees is an appropriate thermostat temperature (it isn't), so I am always bundled up on the couch during the winter. I happily added this 100% cotton blanket to my growing throw collection and I love how the neutral colors work well in my home. The edges are also finished in gigantic tassels, so it's stylish as well as being useful.

Bombay and Cedar cozy foot soak

Pink Pearl Happy Feet Foot Soak, 1 oz - Estimated Value $10, Listed Value $11 (Buy 3 oz here for $30)

This is like tea for your feet! The contents are loose and a thoughtful blend of herbs and flowers. The preparation is a little bit of work. You have to boil 8 cups of water then add the blend and boil for 10 minutes. You then turn off the heat and steep for 5 additional minutes. You can then transfer the mixture to a container to cool, then enjoy They recommend soaking your feet for up to 30 minutes. To avoid the mess of leaves and petals sticking to my feet, I boiled mine in a linen bag which I then discarded. Less cleanup and happy feet!

Bombay and Cedar Cozy potpourri box Bombay and Cedar Cozy potpourri Bombay and Cedar Cozy potpourri detail

Lavender Woods Potpourri by Bombay and Cedar - Listed Value $19.00

Potpourri generally conjures up memories of old houses and stuffy parlors in my memory, so I was skeptical of this addition. The scent won me over though, and I liked the organic material in this mix. The smell is a bold lavender tempered with a soft chamomile.

Bonus: Mad Style Leg Warmers -  Retail Value $19.00 (found here for $15.00)

Sometimes you'll get a bonus item with your subscription box if you share the box on social media. This month, I received some adorable leg warmers! I gifted them to a friend who actually loves leg warmers. She loves that they are thigh high if she wants and that the color goes with nearly everything!

Verdict: Bombay & Cedar, as usual, was filled with such a variety of high-quality products. They certainly committed to the "Cozy" theme! I am absolutely obsessed with my new throw blanket and the essential oils this month. The body polish will be used enthusiastically in my home as well. Even if this box sends me something I am not totally into, I am thrilled to pass it along to a friend. I am enjoying exploring turmeric, and this month I also decided to give potpourri a fair chance. This box costs $49.99 plus shipping and this month's total estimated value is $127.09, not including the bonus leg warmers. In my opinion, is well worth it.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but order by the 12th to get the December box!

Coupon - Use MSA10 to save 10% off for life on their recurring subscription box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $49.95 + $6.95 shipping, which means that each of the 9 featured items in the box has an average cost of $6.32. (Count the bonus item and that average changes to $5.69.)

First month for this box and my throw smelled awful! Not impressed. Its a spendy box so I expected quality not mildew fabric. Soooo disappointed.

I came to see the review, but stayed for Stinky Blanket Commentary 😂 The stank wafted out as soon as i opened the outer box and it permeated into the subscription box. Sigh. I’ll probably try to wash it, but I’m worried my cat will pee on it because she was WAY too interested in the gross smell. It wasn’t really a mildew scent that I noticed, but more of a cheap material / burlap scent, so I believe that statement about it being some finishing spray.

Agreed. For the cost I am very unhappy and will never get this box again. Not the best way to entice new customers to keep getting this box. I was first promised a replacement now being told they are out and they will send me a free gift. I didn’t order this box for a free gift, I ordered it specifically for this throw. Frankly I am angry about how this was handled and that they sent throws that smelled so horrible.

Rachel

My throw smelt so badly of mildew I had to throw it away. I washed it 4 times and most the tassels fell off in that process on the delicate cycle. I emailed customer service and they told me they noticed the smell also but went ahead and shipped the boxes. I asked what they could do about it and was told they could send me another that doesn’t smell on November 29th. I’ve heard nothing back so I assume I am not getting a replacement. I was so excited to try this box but this has left a really bad taste in my mouth and I won’t order from them again in the future.

Did anyone successfully get the smell out without using bleach (I am allergic to it) and without all the tassels falling off?

Mine had a slight smell, but I have found that 100% cotton pillowcases and some curtains I have bought have the same scent sometimes. I ended up leaving mine in my car overnight in the cold (not planned, I just forgot) and then washed it once and the smell is minimal now. I am sorry you had to throw yours out!

Liz

Wow, so they knew about this and sent them out anyway..

Mine was definitely noticeable, but the smell wasn’t too strong. I did consider throwing it away, but surprisingly after 1 wash (I think on Hot) the smell was gone.

Rachel

And the smell of mine was overpowering. I hung it in the garage to dry and you could smell it inside the house. I’m glad you were able to get yours fresh and use, mine was thrown away last week. ☹️

Rachel

Liz. Yes the email I received said they noticed it also. See below, I copied and pasted their reply. It’s also very frustrating that they tried to say it was a treatment for the fabric when it was clearly a mildew smell. Anyone who’s ever forgotten a load of laundry in the washer knows it was mildew. Yes, I have had to throw out a load of towels once 🙄. I was offered a partial refund of $13 I think which doesn’t cover the cost of replacing the throw which was going to be the big Christmas gift.

“We received your message over on Facebook. We noticed the smell as well and are thinking the odor is a treatment added to the throws by the vendor (Two’s Company) or their manufacturer. We’re in contact with them and awaiting additional info. If we find that it is mildew, we will have them ship out a replacement to you. If it’s the normal smell of the blanket, then we’ll send over a partial refund. Our apologies for the inconvenience and for the strong smell. We’re hoping to have an update by Monday since yesterday was a holiday.”

SusanY

Vinegar and hanging it outside mostly worked, but mine had that same smell.

Mine came smelling like other “natural” brand cotton products like decorative pillowcases and throws I have bought before. I washed it once in hot water and it was all good. I feel bad that some were not as lucky!

Julie S San Roman

I have washed my blanket a few times as well. The box wreaked of mildew even before opening the box. Yes!! Hige disappointment!!

Rachel

I agree, I was very disappointed. I actually was going to give this as a Christmas gift, thank goodness I had it shipped to me and not them. I would have been extremely embarrassed had I done that. Everyone keeps saying their customer service is really great and they are a quality box, and that may be true, I am not discounting that in anyway, what frustrates me is they smelt these and decided it was okay to send them out and not offer a cancellation, or a replacement item.

MissJ

Hi. Maybe they shipped it to you around the 29th so it hasn’t gotten to you yet? I’d reach out to them again as this is a quality sub with great customer service, so I’m sure they’ll make it right. Also, I think bleach is the only way to get the mildew gone as mildew is a living fungus, so the bleach kills it. In fact, if you Google, bleach is what is recommended to get rid of mildew. I also found this info, though I cannot vouch as to whether or not it actually works (but I can tell you the bleach works):
“Make a paste out of baking soda and water and simply work it into the surface with a scrub brush or sponge. Rinse with white vinegar to eliminate the white residue that baking soda leaves behind. Hydrogen peroxide is another way to kill mildew naturally.”

They’ve finally responded back to me that they are out of any throws that do not smell and offered a free gift to replace it. That’s nice but not why I ordered this particular box. Very sad and disappointed. 😕 I understand this may have been beyond their control but I feel like I wasted the $55 this cost me.

Kevans

I hate myself. I just signed up for a year after seeing what I missed last month. Ugh. Zero self control.

Turmeric latte. Lol. Indian mothers and grandmothers and aunties have been making “turmeric lattes” for centuries at the slightest sign of any sickness. Got the sniffles? Here’s your hot milk with turmeric! Sprained ankle? Spread turmeric paste on it and drink hot milk with turmeric.

I didn’t grow up around any turmeric so I am happy to learn about it now!
