December 2018 BeautyFIX Review
This box comes with a card detailing each of the items included:
That's 12 items this month!
Let's dive in!
Youngblood Cosmetics Eye-Illuminating Duo, 0.10 oz - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $22.00
I have been wanting to try out something from this brand and I don't have a product like this in my bag. The matte end is too pink/warm for me to use to highlight my brow arch, but works well as an eyeshadow primer. The real winner out of this due for me is the shimmer end, which I like to use on my inner eye corner and also above my cupid's bow on my lips.
Dermstore Lip Quench Sheer Tint in Red Delicious, 0.28 oz - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $12.00
The color of this gloss is perfect. It is a sheer red that makes my teeth look whiter and goes with everything because it is very classic. I wasn't a huge fan of the formula though, it seemed a little chunky, for lack of a better word. The formula absolutely left my lips feeling smooth and hydrated and I love when I get full-size lip products in subs!
Harry Josh Pro Tools Pro Makeup Wave Setting Clips - Retail Value $18 (Found here for $12.60)
My ridiculously low-key hair routine is basically brushing it when I get knots. I leave most other things to the professionals at my salon. I don't see myself using them for styling, but I have used them daily every morning to keep my wind hair out of my face while I apply my makeup. They are also awesome for keeping my flyaways far away from my sheet masks. I love that they don't yank on my hair or leave creases. They are also really cute and make me feel fancy, which is really the most important thing to me when it comes to hair products.
Murad Renewing Eye Cream, 0.14 oz - Estimated Value $22.40 (Buy a full size 0.5 fl oz here for $80.00)
This sample is so tiny, but a little goes a long way. This rich cream pretty much feels like butter, in the best way and if full of retinol and amino acids, which the delicate skin around eyes craves for hydration and fine line reduction. I have been wanting to try this product out for some time, but pricing was prohibitive for me. I am happy to have this sample to test out over the next month and see if it lives up to the hype and the price tag.
NIA 24 Gentle Cleansing Cream, 1 oz - Estimated Value $6.60 (Buy a full size 5 fl oz here for $33.00)
Niacin, I love you. This skin superhero pretty much does it all: evens out hyperpigmentation, reduces fine lines, and provides a TON of moisture. I generally see this ingredient more in serums and creams, so I was very excited to try it out in this cleanser. After testing it out, I recommend using it after your normal cleanser, as this formula didn't remove all my makeup. I can forgive this shortcoming, as it felt like straight up velvet on my skin, and left it feeling really dewy and happy. It is also color and dye free, making it a great choice for sensitive skin.
REN Clean Skincare – Overnight Recovery Balm, 5 ml - Estimated Value $8.00 (Buy a full size 30 ml here for $48.00)
I really liked this product. It is a true blam, slightly clear and slick. It has a very faint natural scent and a little goes a very long way. I like to use this right after a toning spray. It is very oil based so if you generally react badly to oils such as almond, olive, and jojoba, skip this one. My dry skin loves oils, especially at night, so this was a treat. This formula was really effective against my winter trouble spots: mainly dry eyebrows, nostrils, and flaky skin where my hair meets my face.
Supersmile Mini-Deluxe Professional Whitening System, 0.42 oz total - Estimated Value $4.31 (Buy a full size here for $80.00)
This teeth whitening duo it means to be combined on your dry toothbrush and brushed on twice a day. I didn't notice a huge difference in whitening after the first use, but this product has such good reviews I am sure it is only a matter of time. I do have sensitive teeth, so hopefully, I can continue my experimentation.
R+Co WATERFALL Moisture Shine Lotion, 0.5 fl oz - Estimated Value $2.90 (Buy a full size 5 oz here for $29.00)
I adore R+Co products because they always smell incredible and fit right into my extremely minimal (borderline neglectful) hair routine. I like to use this product on my dry hair to add shine and control frizz and flyaways without weighing my hair down. In the winter I keep this formula in my bag to use on the go, so having a little tube is awesome for my purse! If you used this product according to the instructions, you would apply it to damp hair for the same results. My hair is very dry and heavy so I prefer to use it on dry hair. I have yet to use a product from this line that I don't like.
Erno Laszlo Hydraphel Skin Supplement, 0.5 fl oz - Estimated Value $4.41 (Buy a full size 6.8 oz here for $60.00)
I like this toner because it is thicker than most. It is actually a little slimy, but I am so into it. It is very much like a watered down serum. It adds a ridiculous amount of moisture to my skin and plays nicely with the heavy moisturizer I sleep in. I don't have anything in my routine quite like this, and it might be an item I splurge on after I run out of this sample. Am I crazy enough to use it after a more liquid toner? Yes. Yes, I am. I need ALL the moisture.
Bioderma Hydrabio Serum, 0.17 fl oz - Estimated Value $3.07 (Buy a full size 1.33 fl oz here for $24.90)
This serum was so light and fresh feeling on my skin. As with the other products this month, doon;t let this small sample size bother you. This stuff goes a long way and will last quite a while. This is the second niacinamide heavy formula this month, but it is such a beneficial ingredient that I am happy for more. The other big ingredient in this formula is glycerine, which I know some people don't like, but I always find it helps my skin retain moisture.
Neostrata Skin Active Cellular Restoration, 0.17 oz - Estimated Value $7.77 (Buy a full size 1.75 oz here for $80.00)
As a skincare junkie, I adore this product. I noticed an immediate benefit to my skin, likely from the glycolic acid, which my skin reacts really positively to, as long as I take care in the sun (as everyone should do anyway!). This acid is a non-abrasive exfoliant and should be a staple in anyone's anti-aging skincare routine. After sleeping in this formula my skin felt very plump and hydrated.
Beautyblender Sample
This tiny little blender would be great for using around your eyes. The packaging was a little odd, but very entertaining. I am not sure why I had to add water to the sponge, but I did enjoy squeezing the water into it while in the package.
Verdict: Minus the Beautyblender sample, this box has a value of $111.46. That's quite a value for a $24.95 box. Last month there was one main hero item, but this month we had tons of samples. As a skincare nerd, I really liked the variety this month, but I can understand why getting multiple similar products might not be everyone's idea of a good time. Some of these brands are very expensive and I think it is always nice to get to try them before shelling out quite a few hard earned dollars.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? As of today, your first box would be the January box.
