The Home Detox Deluxe Box November 2018 Review

I'm thrilled to be reviewing my very first Home Detox Box. My introduction to eco boxes was with Mighty Fix, which gave me some great products and ideas for ways of making my home more sustainable. The Home Detox Box takes it a step further by providing actual non-toxic cleaning products & beyond to make my life both easier (saves me the research!) and safer. As if the concept of this box wasn't enough to get me excited, it's also done in a really thoughtful way—starting with this tasteful welcome card, which opens up to explain a little bit about the products in the box.

These paragraphs give a little info about each product and discount codes are included throughout.

They also included a few extras, such as info on the packaging and the business card of the box's founder & owner.

Effuse Candles Pomander - Fall Scent Limited Edition Tumbler, 9 oz. – Retail Value $28.00

Let's start off with this gorgeous candle. Who doesn't love a wooden wick? This is the largest candle I've ever received in a sub box (9 ounces!), which feels like such a treat. It's a piece of decor, practically! This candle is made with a 90% coconut, 5% soy, 5% palm wax blend and offers a rather holiday-inspired scent that's accented with some citrus tones to offer a bit of uniqueness.

Beekeeper's Naturals Propolis Throat Spray, 1.06 fl oz — Retail Value $13.99

Propolis is a word that I had heard of, but couldn't conjure up exactly what it was. Here's what the Beekeeper's Natural site says: "Prized as the immune system of the hive, propolis has incredible germ fighting properties and even contains over 300 beneficial vitamins, minerals, and compounds—making it nature’s ultimate defender." I already use local honey in my tea to combat seasonal allergies, so this is right up my alley.

I'm thankful for this warning—I am currently nursing, and my husband is very allergic to bees, so neither of us are good candidates to try this all-natural product. I think I'll pass it along to my brother, who has struggled with several bouts of strep throat in the past couple of years! I did spray some on my hand, though, and it's thick, dark, and honey-smelling. Exactly what I would expect/hope for it to be!

I love it when products are free of common allergens, and also when they display it clearly on the packaging. Even though I couldn't try it, I'm really happy with the quality of this product.

Peace on Po Charlie Chapper Skin Balm, 0.75 oz — Retail Value $16.00

Hello, beautiful, you came at exactly the right time! The chillier weather has my lips and fingers feeling really dry lately, and I was just thinking I need to get my hands on some good balm to start the season out right.

Oh man, here's another product that suggests I consult a doctor before using as a nursing mother. Again I appreciate the warning, but I'm not super concerned about negative effects since I'm familiar with all the ingredients on the list. I will probably just avoid using it on my lips so I don't end up consuming the essential oils. Given how very many are in there, I would have expected it to have a strong scent, but it's really very neutral. It kind of just smells subtle and natural.

To get more balm from the tube, you just push up on the cardboard bottom. I'll have to be careful not to toss it in a purse with things that might accidentally bump it up and smash it into its lid. I applied some to my hands just now and it's thick but hydrating!

Freewheelin' Market Beeswax Wrap Set of 2  — Buy a set of 3 here for $21.99

Oooh, I'm especially pumped about this product! I received Beeswrap in a Mighty Fix box awhile back and really liked using it. I had gotten two pieces, and rather than rushing out and buying more I decided to use it intermittently alongside the roll of plastic wrap I already had until it ran out. When that time came, I bought two more pieces from a local urban farm. I was very happy to support the farm, but the wrap was made in such a way that it left a waxy residue on my hands after each use. It wasn't a huge problem, but not ideal. These pieces are a good happy medium.

There are two different sizes included.

This is the smaller piece draped over a cereal-sized bowl.

Meliora Gentle Home Cleaning Scrub - Tea Tree Scent, 12 oz. — Retail Value $6.99

I remember my mum cleaning with a baking soda-based scrub when I was a kid, and thinking it seemed like a really satisfying way of cleaning—the grittiness of the cleaner really did its job. Now that I have my own home, I tend to use a combo of white vinegar and an all-natural cleaning spray. They do their job of being safe for my baby and pets, but sometimes I just don't have the elbow grease to scrub and scrub tough stovetop spills with merely vinegar and a sponge. All this to say, this scrub is a very welcome addition to my cleaning supply cupboard!

I'm thrilled that it's so versatile and can be used on a number of surfaces. And, of course, that it's so safe & sustainable. I always look for that little cruelty-free bunny on my products!

Tea tree oil is my jam—its scent is so earthy and makes me happy. Paired with peppermint, it's my perfect "clean scent." I gave this a try on the aforementioned stovetop spills (they're frequent in my house) and it totally changed the game! Dried sauce came off super easily and left my stovetop surface looking nicely polished. I will definitely be buying more of this product when it runs out. And that, my friends, is The Home Detox Box having long-term positive effects on my lifestyle already!! If that's not the point, I don't know what is!

Verdict: I am just over the moon with my first Home Detox Box. The products are all from new-to-me businesses that I can absolutely see myself purchasing from in the future. The products I won't use, like the propolis throat spray, are items that I will feel comfortable & confident gifting to loved ones, knowing I'm giving them something safe and high-quality.

Value-wise, this box is $54.95 per bi-monthly shipment and this month's items add up to a retail total of $64.98, not including the Beeswax Wrap Set, which retails at $21.99 for a 3 pack. The estimated total value surpasses the promise of a $70+ value in each box! This is a rockstar deal for this amazing, natural, non-toxic assortment!

1. I would check with your pediatrician about the Calendula in the balm. My understanding is that it’s potentially harmful to infants and young children.
2. Right now I clean my glass stove top with baking soda. I’m wondering how well that scrub would work and whether it would scratch the glass surface? I doubt it, but still curious.
