ORLY Color Pass Winter 2018 “Deep Wonder” Review

This box includes an info sheet detailing the bonuses included, as well as a nail art idea using the colors. For my nail art, I was actually inspired by the front of this info sheet - see how below!

Pravana Intense Therapy Treat Healing Masque, 2.03 oz – Estimated Value $9.33 (buy the 5 oz version for $22.99)

A luxurious hydrating mask is exactly what my hair needs now that the seasons have changed, so I am really happy this is one of the bonuses. I have never tried Pravana products before, but I see the brand on Instagram often with hair stylists doing some beautiful color using their products. I love that this can be used both as a quick 5-minute treatment or as an overnight mask, and after using it for a few minutes in the shower my hair felt so incredibly soft.

Orly Cuticle Therapy Crème,

Orly Cuticle Therapy Crème, Full-Size! Retail Value $12

This is another winter must-have! If I am not constantly moisturizing my cuticles, then they are peeling, dry, or ripping when my nail technician goes to shape my nails with her emery board. This has Vitamin E in it which is great for hydrating cuticles, along with Vitamin A and avocado oil. This is thick and takes a minute to sink in, and just make sure to only grab a little bit so you’re not left with greasy hands.

Here is the full set! Isn’t it gorgeous? One thing to note—the following photos were taken with no top coat to really show the punch of shine these babies pack. Now let’s dive in!

Orly Mystic Maven, Full-Size! MSRP $9.50 (found here for $7.95)

Mystic Maven is a purple mauve that I found to be bright and cheery against the more moody shades of this collection. The color reminds me of holiday ornaments, and it applied flawlessly. I really could have done this as a one coat wonder, but I went with two to be safe.

Orly Wild Wonder,

Orly Wild Wonder, Full-Size! MSRP $9.50 (found here for $7.95)

Wild Wonder is described as a berry mauve and to me, it is the perfect holiday red. I could totally see my mom rocking this exact shade on Christmas morning, and since Orly has their crème polishes down to a science this too had a flawless application. Bonus: no stained cuticles when I removed it!

Orly Cosmic Crimson, Full-Size! MSRP $9.50 (found here for $7.95)

Cosmic Crimson is a brick red shimmer that leans metallic, only with no visible brush strokes—score! This shade reminds me of the changing leaves right before they turn brown, and this applied smoothly.

Orly Lucid Dream,

Orly Lucid Dream, Full-Size! MSRP $9.50 (found here for $7.95)

Oh man, guys, this polish has stolen my heart. It is the PERFECT shade of rose gold, and it packs the perfect punch of shimmer. I can tell you now I am going to be wearing this shade all. The. Time this holiday season, but it is a beautiful shade that doesn’t need to be limited to just the winter months. I really don’t think words can express how much I love this color, and the formula was just as impressive—this could have been a one coat wonder if I so desired. If you want to buy just one nail polish to wear to holiday parties while still standing out, this is the polish you want.

Orly Nebula, Full-Size! MSRP $9.50 (found here for $7.95)

Nebula is described as a grape metallic shimmer that leans more indigo to my eyes. It definitely packs the metallic shimmer, and it is a stunner! Also, this polish had the perfect formula, so I only used one coat for the swatch you see above.

Orly Retrograde,

Orly Retrograde, Full-Size! MSRP $9.50 (found here for $7.95)

Until Lucid Dream came and stole my heart I thought Retrograde would be my favorite of the box. This is such a unique shade! It is described as a “June bug duo chrome,” and to me, it is a teal metallic shimmer that will shift to both dark black-green and purple. The formula was perfect, and this is another great holiday party shade.

Here is the nail art I did this month! I was inspired by the marbled colors on the info sheet, but water marbling is a nail art technique I have never been able to master. Instead, I used a plastic bag! To get this look I started with a base of Lucid Dream on all of my nails and waited for it to dry. On my accent nail I put big drops of Cosmic Crimson, Lucid Dream, Nebula, and Retrograde, and, moving quickly, I smooshed the drops together using a cut-out piece of a plastic sandwich bag. I am loving the end result, and I think it can work both as an accent nail to another color (the way I am wearing it here), or you could do this design on every nail. Let me know what you think of my nail art!

The Verdict: So, apparently the way to my heart is through shimmer nail polish. I am so in love with the winter collection from Orly - I think it may be my most favorite collection yet! Orly is an established brand that has really nailed their formulas down, and I love that all of their polishes are vegan, cruelty-free, and 12-free. I know it can be hard to swallow the sticker shock of an annual subscription up front, but you really will get a year’s worth of quality and fun nail polishes. Considering the quarterly cost of the box is $29.75, finding the whole collection for cheaper than the Color Pass price will be difficult. If you have been hesitant to subscribe to this box, I say take the leap and start off with this beautiful winter collection—I really can’t stop gushing about it (and Lucid Dream).
