Whiskerbox October 2018 "Happy Meow'Oween" Review

One thing that’s great about Whiskerbox is the items are usually off the beaten path when it comes to cat subscriptions – you don’t see these anywhere else!  Let’s see what was in store this month:

This month the information card doesn’t contain a list of items.

Cat Costume

This doesn’t have any branding information and, as you might imagine, searching words you might associate with this item via Google image search isn’t useful in finding this exact item. This is pretty substantial and actually has padding. Of course, I giggled incessantly as I took pictures. Mr. Kitty did not want me to put it on him and probably would’ve bitten me severely if he was not wearing an e-collar right now.

For Mew Catnip Pillow

For Mew Catnip Pillow – Retail Value $6

This is from an Etsy shop. The fabrics are designed by artists and printed with eco-friendly methods including water-based inks and dyes. The stuffing is recycled paper and organic catnip. This is a good size for my kitties, including Angus, who likes to play especially with smaller catnip toys. He just wasn’t very cooperative for pictures since he is in an e-collar right now.

Spider Toy – Retail Value $6

This is also from an Etsy shop. My kitties were definitely into the stringy legs. The body is felt and there is a bell inside. (You can have the seller leave out the bell, which I would probably do if ordering since my cats discover the noisy toys in the middle of the night.)

Cat Craves (tuna flavor) – Retail Value $4.49

These are semi-moist treats and Sneaky, Madison, and Monkey were fans. (Monkey doesn’t usually go for treats so these must be good; Angus and Mr. Kitty can’t have them due to dietary restrictions but that is pretty normal these days.) Sneaky is getting the most benefit since we are currently using these to entice her into the bathroom for her asthma inhaler.

Here are your kitty photos for the month:

Angus mostly wanted to rub his face on things. He is having a digestive issue and is licking his rear end too much (hope that’s not TMI) so he is in the e-collar for now until we get this figured out. (He is on kaolin/pectin, metronidazole, probiotics, and canned pumpkin, as well as a hypoallergenic prescription food at the moment.) I think he is either going to be one of these cats with severe food sensitivities or IBD (I really hope it’s not IBD but we will see).

Madison likes the treats.

It used to be, I couldn’t get Madison into costumes. It is not so hard now (but he is getting older, he is about 11). But I do have to take him into the bathroom and shut the door so he doesn’t run and hide.

Monkey likes the spider legs.

Monkey also likes the treats. If you are wondering what is up with his right eye, well, a few hours after I took these pictures it became evident that he had an eye infection. (He previously had one in his left eye.) So he is being treated for that now. But he may look squinty in reviews for a little while.

He goes all stiff when I put him in costumes. I particularly like the photos with all his belly fur sticking out.

Sneaky lives for treats. Nothing else even comes close.

Mr. Kitty was not a happy boy. We have some antiviral eye drops on the way from a compounding pharmacy and a follow-up visit with the veterinary ophthalmologist soon but in the meantime, he wears the e-collar to keep him from scratching or rubbing his eye.

Verdict: I could not calculate a total value for the October 2018 Whiskerbox. The three items I could find online totaled $16.49 which leaves $33.46 for the costume (out of the $49.95 subscription price). When we do get information cards, full costumes are usually listed at around $45 and this one is pretty substantial. At any rate, this was a good month for us. The toys were both from independent makers and the treats were really popular, and I got a kick out of the costume.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Whiskerbox ships on the 15th of the month so if you sign up before then (assuming they haven’t sold out), you would get November's box as your first box.
