Fall 2018 Obviously Chic Box Subscription Review

Let's see, I'm already super impressed with how pretty the box is, which is a great start. This fall edition includes some cozy items to keep me warm as the weather changes. Let's see what's in here:

obviously chic info card front obviously chic info card back

An info card with a description of the items and a reminder to post on social for a chance to win a free box is included.

Wood Flame Candles "Absolutely Autumn" Soy Candle, 6oz

Anyone here like to watch ASMR videos? If so, you'll love this candle (if not, you should look it up). I grew up with a wood burning fireplace and miss the sounds of a crackling fire and the scent of charred wood. This candle is a little reminder of those things with the added scents of cinnamon apples. These candles are handmade in Canada and include a handy candle care guide.

"Feed Me & Tell Me I'm Pretty" Socks

Oops! I guess these socks should be reversed in the photo...but either way, this is a true representation of my life. I'm pretty much always in need of snacks and compliments from John. 🙂 Not only is the writing on the bottom a signal to him it's also a bit grippy so I won't fall when on a 'snack adventure' in the middle of the night. Cute and practical!

Daisy Mae "Let's Get Cozy" Tee

Now that I'm working at home a lot, I find I need more comfy clothes that I can easily layer. I love long, slouchy tees that I can wear with my leggings, and this one is just that. It's cool and stretchy with fabric made of 95% rayon and 5% spandex. The crew neckline makes it comfortable for lounging in but is also practical for running errands without worrying about cleavage. The sleeves have a permanent cuff which gives this tee a little character, aside from the cozy, inviting script written on the front.

Daisy Mae "Pancakes Please" Sweater

If I get chilly in my tee, or I want pancakes, all I need to do is throw on this lightweight tunic sweatshirt. The 60% polyester, 35% cotton, 5% spandex fabric is fitted, but stretchy, and the perfect weight for layering over or under other pieces. The length is great for leggings because it completely covers my butt. My favorite part is that the inside is a terry cloth weave and not fuzzy like most other sweatshirts. The hot pink "Pancakes Please" script is printed in hot pink. I just wish it said "Waffles" instead...

Red & Black Plaid Blanket Scarf

Another perfect layering piece for cool weather is this big blanket scarf. There isn't a tag but I assume it's made of acrylic and probably machine washable on a delicate cycle. It's super soft and fuzzy without being excessively linty. And, it's BIG. Big enough to wear as a generous wrap scarf, as a shawl, or to use as a blanket in a pinch. The colors are perfect for college football season too since we are a Gamecocks/Crimson Tide family.

Verdict: I'm feeling so warm and fuzzy in all of my cute sayings and warm layers. I think the curation is great for this Obviously Chic Box. I got a home item, some fashion accessories, and some apparel all with the distinct feeling of fall. The packaging is beautiful too. $79 might be a little much for me to spend on myself monthly, but since this is a quarterly subscription, I think the treat is worth it. It would also make a wonderful gift since it will show up at the recipient's door looking great in the box it ships in.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up now you'll receive the Winter (December 20th) box as your first box.

Value Breakdown: At $79 for this box, each item averaged out to $15.8. Since some items were most likely less in value than others, I'm just using that as an oversimplified breakdown to give you an idea.

Against my better judgement, I gave Obviously Chic the benefit of the doubt, as to their reason behind not having a customer review section on their social media or websites….

I wanted to support local, and thought, why not try. I will tell you, after dealing with this company, having a horrible experience, and then doing further research…. I now know they don’t allow reviews because of their shady business practices. If you search them out (independent of their own sites) you will see that there is a pattern of:
– taking your money
– not delivering your product (or continuously delaying shipping)
– not responding to emails
– deleting any valid comments/concerns off social media
– blocking you off social media.

I placed an order on Oct 8 (with an advertised shipping date of Oct 11). When I did not receive shipping info by Oct 13, I emailed them. On Oct 15, they responded to advise that the shipment was delayed, and that it wouldn’t be shipped until Oct 29 (I checked their website, and saw they made a change to the expected shipping date). I requested to cancel the order, as i would have no use for the clothing items after Oct 27 (Halloween Party). And had the shipping date been advertised correctly, I wouldn’t have ordered it. They refused to cancel the order as per their policy. I respectfully emailed back, indicating my dissatisfaction, and asking them to consider doing the right thing. The email was ignored. I thought “ugh. I’ll just wait for the order, and maybe I can sell the items I order at consignment.” October 29 came and went, without a shipping confirmation. So I emailed again. They advised there was yet another delay, and that the would “get the items to me as soon as possible.” I responded, to tell them that this was an unprofessional business practice. And again, asked to have my order cancelled. Why should I pay for something that hasn’t even been shipped. Most companies wont charge your cc until the item is shipped. They had no problem taking my money, without being able to deliver the product.

I have filed a report to the BBB.

I encourage people to do some research on this company before subscribing. There are way too many complaints and a failing grade with the BBB. I did receive 2 boxes that were OK, I don’t think the value was in the boxes but they were OK. The headaches did not warrant continuing with the box so I cancelled.

My experience with this company has been so unbelievably negative, it’s hard for me to even wrap my head around.
I ordered a few items in APRIL, and in September, I was still trying to find out where they were, if I was going to get them, etc. The only contact was a customer service email, in which they responded 2 out the the 6 times I contacted them.

they told me that my items were ‘pre-order’ and taking longer than expected, although there was NO INDICATION that the items were pre-order and not actually available when I ordered them.

After a bit of research, I discovered that my experience was more often then morn, rather than the exception, and that this company sells items on the site that they don’t have in stock, and use THAT money to pay for their past orders that they need to fullfill, and then continue this cycle.

I am disappointed, as this was at one point a legitimate business, and they have gone so downhill. So many customers are so fed up that a class action law suit is now being filed.

Beware the promised shipping date…it’s a lie. I have had a subscription to this box since the beginning and my box has never shipped on the set date.
March 20 actually shipped March 23
June 20 shipped July (yes JULY) 19
September 20 shipped September 26

WORST COMPANY EVER. DO NOT SUPPORT HER. Second order placed that’s never shown up in two years. She takes your money without ever having product. She won’t provide her name, she has been reported to all bad business companies. Save yourself the hassle and money. Also please take a look at the Facebook page of customers who are not happy as she won’t allow comments on her actual page.

This might be a long one!

Oh, where to start? I subscribed to this box to replace my FFF subscription. I’m Canadian, so I thought it would be nice to support a Canadian company who claimed they were supporting other Canadian companies.

The spring box was ok. A couple tank tops that were too small for me (more on that later), a towel, a waterproof pouch for putting a wet bathing suit in, a bag of taffy candies and a pop socket.

The summer box was a hot mess. First of all, they were supposed to be mailed June 20. Nearly 5 weeks later they were finally sent out. The excuse being that a local woman was working furiously, hand sewing an item for the box. This hand sewn item turned out to be a kimono, which many that were received by people still had the “made in China” tag in them. So this box contained the kimono, a hand painted tote bag, a hat, glass water bottle and a damned scrunchie.

Now this fall box. So after getting my spring box and realizing the size was too small, I emailed and asked if they could change the sizing for the rest of my subscription (it said in the FAQ’s/somewhere on the website that this would be possible). I got an email back saying sure thing it’s been changed in my account. When I got the shipping email (only about a week late this time) I noticed they were sending the wrong size box. I knew there were tops in this one so I wrote right away to let them know and ask what they were going to do. After almost a month of back and forth they were finally going to ship me new tops. It turned out they sent me a whole new box, not just the tops, which was an unbelievable surprise. This is the only reason I gave two stars for customer service, and that was being quite generous.

So in addition to the boxes Obviously Chic has a website you can order clothes from. In June they had a BOGO sale so I ordered a hoodie and lounge pants. Mid July and nothing from them about this order so I email wondering where it is. “Part of your order was preordered and not in stock yet, it will be shipped shortly”. A couple weeks later the hoodie shows up with a notice that once they get the lounge pants in stock they will be sent. So now mid September, still no pants so I email again. “Sorry you must have been missed, an email was sent to everyone who ordered these that they are no longer available. However here is a discount code for $25 off your next order”. A flippin’ discount!! So by now I’ve seen how this company is run. There is a Facebook group of many others who have been screwed over and trying to get refunds, etc. I decide to give them one more try. I order one more hoodie since I have the discount code and didn’t want to spend too much money, just in case. On the website this hoodie was supposed to ship October 15th. I wait a week and nothing, so I email. “Your item was preordered and there has been a delay in receiving them. It will be shipped in the next couple days”. I wait another week, then email again. Blah, blah, blah, delay in shipment, will be shipping out as soon as possible. I’ll give it a couple more weeks before I go to PayPal for a refund.

I hate to be so negative about a company, but if I had known this was how they ran things I never would have ordered anything from them in the first place. I subscribed for a year of boxes. Which if you can forgive basically everything else about the company, then the boxes are ok. However, once I receive my winter box I’m going to cancel my subscription, and I know many others who will be too.

Oh, you also can’t leave reviews on their Facebook page, which should have been a major red flag from the start. And they will delete any negative comments on any of their posts.

Anyways, rant over. Don’t get this box!!!

I’m a fan – I’ll have to keep an eye on this one. I do wish the website shows pics of past boxes so we can get a better feel for it.

I think there needs to be one more thing in here, like a treat or something to round out this box. Otherwise, I like it!

also, you note at the end that this costs $79, but that’s the CAD price.
