Nomadik "Fun In The Sun" Review

We can start off with the Nomadik booklet. We’ve got full product descriptions, tips, discounts, and the monthly challenge laid out in a compact design. This month’s theme is Fun In The Sun, and we get a box focusing on getting the most out of the last days of summer. Unfortunately, we didn’t receive this box until the tail end of September and it’s a bit on the chilly side here in Pittsburgh already!

Parks Project Trail Crew Boonie Hat

First up we have this ultralight boonie hat from Parks Project. Parks Project helps to fund backlogged projects in our National Parks, so I’m always excited to see items from them in boxes, though I was unable to find this particular style anywhere on their site. This hat is made from nylon so it’s fully waterproof and has a sizeable drawcord allowing you to keep it tightened in the wind, or hang it off your back when not in use. It hardly feels like anything on my head, and it stuffs down to about the size of a baseball so it’s an easy addition to your kayaking or backpacking kit. The boonie is a bit small on me personally - I normally wear a 7 ⅝ and this appears to be a one-size-fits-all with very little stretch in the hatband.

Pura Youth Kickback On-the-go Cooler

Pura Youth Kickback On-the-go Cooler

Next up, we have this handy little cooler from Pura Youth. Now… calling this a cooler is a little generous in my opinion. It’s essentially a soft-sided lunchbox in my eyes. It does appear to be lined with a thin layer of closed-cell foam, and the interior lining appears to be a waterproof nylon. You could fit a six pack of standard cans with some loose ice, or maybe 2 cans, 2 apples, and a couple of small sandwiches if you were out for a picnic. I was unable to find this particular item online, but Pura Youth has teased it on their Instagram as “Coming Soon” as recently as July.

Amavara SPF 50 Face Stick .2oz – Estimated Value $8.33 (buy a .6 oz stick for $25)

Up next we have a trio of items from Amavara starting with this SPF 50 face stick. This is in a slightly misleading package as it’s the same size as a lip balm, but there are warnings not to ingest the product so be careful out there. There’s .2 oz of sunscreen to work with here, so you might be able to get a couple of uses here to cover your face and neck, but I don’t know if you’d be able to stretch it much beyond that. I do like that it’s unscented, and it went on smoothly and worked into my skin quickly, leaving little to no residue.

Amavara SPF 30 Lotion, 2ml packet - Buy a 3 fl oz. tube for $35

Amavara Tinted SPF 50 Lotion, 2ml packet - Buy a 2.4 fl oz. tube for $45

The other two Amavara items are these tinted and untinted sunscreen lotions. These samples are tiny - you might be able to cover face/neck or forearms at the most. I found that the lotions went on smoothly and evenly, and worked into the skin leaving little residue, similar to the face stick. The tinting in the SPF50 is very minor, and when rubbed in it blended into my skin and I didn’t notice any tinting to my skin tone.

Yumbutter Inergy Almond Butter Pouch – Buy 10 pouches for $24.99

Finally this month we get this pouch of almond butter from Yumbutter. Inergy Almond Butter has been mixed with maca root, yerba mate, and coconut oil to not only enhance the flavor but add a boost of energy. The almond butter itself was tasty, though it needed a lot of kneading to mix the oils back in. I would definitely pick up a few pouches of this for a good hike, and could easily eat it plain or spread it onto some celery or crackers for a more robust snack.

Verdict: Nomadik was good this month, and despite the theme, I think I’ll get use out of the products through the fall and again next year. They promise up to $50 worth of items in each box, and while I can’t accurately sum up the retail values since I can’t find the two hero items online, I feel like we’re easily well over the $32.95 investment and likely over $50 in total value.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will start with the October box.

The October box has an “Explore, Observe, Capture” theme and includes the Brunton Pocket Scope Monocular.

It also includes the Lux Pro 500 Flashlight. I think those will be the 2 main items.

Yes, this is the August Box. The September box came with a cool knife, a Mountain House meal, and a spatula. Both good boxes though.

I just got my first Nomadik box but it wasn’t this one, it was “Camp Kitchen 2.0” – I wrote a bit about it and the spoilers under the September Theme spoiler. Is this the October box? It does seem a bit of a summery theme to be sending out for fall!

Allison

This is the August box. Camp Kitchen was the Sept box.

Yeah, I wasn’t terribly sure since their shipping has been a bit wonky for us this year 🙁 I did see your comment about Camp Kitchen, hopefully that’s the box I receive next! I’m just assuming this is August but I can’t say for sure as they don’t put the month on their info booklets.

August would make more sense! I liked the camp kitchen box – I think it was a better fit than Battlebox for getting gifts for my husband with some items I would love while camping, too. He’s more of a casual hiker/camper than a die hard survival hiker so the Bug Out bag box might be a bit overkill for him (I think he will love the knife though!)
