Mother Snacker October 2018 Review

This month's box theme is "Growth is Self-Care" and I cannot tell you how much I needed this box this month! My older kids are four and two and the baby is six months old and I am still adjusting to life with three kids, so self-care has been last on my to-do list. I love that this month's box is designed to encourage moms to make themselves a priority, which is much easier said than done!

They always include a contents list that gives a description of the items and why they were chosen as well as an enjoy by date.

Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis - Retail Value $22.99 (found here for $13.78)

This month our theme centers around this book that I was so excited to receive since I have been seeing it everywhere these days! I was surprised at what mixed reviews this book had when I looked it up, a lot of them scathing, but a lot of them were positive. For me, I am enjoying the book as I am reading it for pleasure and not as a real lifestyle guide. I think it's one woman's honest look at her life and her evaluation of what needed to change to make her better and I think there are a lot of moments where she can be encouraging. It does feel like a bit of a "humble-brag," as people have mentioned, of a woman who is somewhat privileged in her life, but I think the basics are there: nobody can make your life better, but you. I think I am definitely my own worst enemy sometimes and finding the motivation to change is hard when you are a tired momma, but it is nice to hear that someone else has the same issues and fears as I do! I love that the founder of the box says this book helped her when she was just starting out, it makes it such a personal addition to the box.

Palm to Pine Daily Affirmation Cards, Set of 4 - Buy 16 for $26

To give us even more encouragement and positive vibes, we received this set of postcard-sized affirmation cards featuring quotes based on our book author, Rachel Hollis. These are really pretty and I think I'll save them to send to some of my mama friends when they need a little encouragement! The note from the owner of Palm to Pine Design, who is also a fellow mom, includes a special offer for Mother Snacker subscribers if they make a purchase and also explains how a portion of the proceeds from these cards goes to the Team Lilly Foundation which is a non-profit that supports families dealing with childhood cancer. I love that they are from a small business with a cause!

CALA Dual-Action Facial Cleansing Brush in Mint - Retail Value $8.75

To go with our book, we literally received some items to use for washing our face. I love that this brush has two sides to it to help remove dirt, oil, and makeup from your face.

The soft side of the brush has bristles that are so incredibly soft that I could probably just rub it on my face forever! While it is pillow soft, it is also densely packed so it really feels like you are getting a great cleansing. The other side features small silicone bristles which are great for providing a mild exfoliation.

Basik Bath and Body 90 Sec Facial Packet - Retail Value $3

We received a small packet of this 90 Second facial to go along with our brush. This is a really mild scrub that is both vegan and cruelty-free. It is recommended for use in the shower and you can leave it on for 60-90 seconds before rinsing it off. This is the perfect facial scrub for a busy mom like me who no longer gets the luxury of a long shower. They also included a 20% off coupon with no expiration date which is nice!

OPI Nail Laquer in Tiramisu for Two - Retail Value $10.50 (found here for $8.69)

The last non-snack item in our box was this OPI nail polish. I had my daughter model the polish for me and this is just one coat. The coverage in the polish is great - it goes on smoothly and is very opaque. I love the dessert-themed name and this is a great neutral color!

Salt of the Earth Bakery Brownies, The Kona - Buy 3 boxes for $14.99

I have been wanting to try these brownies for a while now and this flavor is definitely one I would have chosen. The Kona is an amazing combination of espresso, chocolate and sea salt. The brownies are nice and moist, chewy with a light crunch on the outside. The espresso flavor comes off more like a hint of coffee and the sea salt is also very subtle. These were delicious and even my husband who doesn't like sweets gave them his stamp of approval!

I love that it comes with two in a pack. You can see how soft and chocolatey they are on the inside!

The rest of our goodies came packaged in this insulated envelope to protect it from the weather which I completely appreciate with how warm it has been lately!

Skinny Dipped Almonds in Dark Chocolate Cocoa - Retail Value $4.49 (found here for $4. Or, buy 10 pouches for $50 here)

These are amazing and taste just the way they sound! These almonds are delicious and salty with an incredibly light coating of dark chocolate and cocoa on the outside. There is just enough chocolate on these to satisfy me, but not so much that I can't convince myself that these are a healthy snack! Dark chocolate is good for the heart, right? I also love that we received the larger 3.5 oz size and that it's resealable. I just saw these are on sale at Target and couldn't resist ordering the Dark Chocolate Espresso flavor! Our info card shares that these are from a mother & daughter team who were inspired by the loss of family friend which makes me feel great about supporting their team.

Smackaroons Chocolate Almond Classic Cookie, 2- 2 oz packs - Buy an 8 count box for $24.99

The last item in our box were these cookies. I love that we received two packs of them and that each pack has two large cookies in it! I love my sweets, but these cookies are so substantial that just one is a perfect sweet snack for me. They are incredibly rich, crunchy on the outside and chewy inside with the perfect balance of coconut and almond flavors. The dark chocolate coating takes it to another level and I love that over half the cookie is dipped which means I can ensure a proper chocolate to cookie ratio in every bite.

Verdict: I really loved my Mother Snacker box this month. It felt like such an indulgent, pampering, encouraging treat that was much needed! I love that the sweet treats were all incredibly delicious and that we received generous portions of them all. I also thought it was really well-balanced with all of the self-care items we received. I will use everything in this box and thoroughly enjoy using it too. This box costs $49 with free shipping and I’m estimating the value at $67.48, which I think is fantastic for such a decadent and thoughtfully curated box. Plus I love that this box has a focus on moms supporting moms and the fact that they try to source from women-owned businesses and also donate to charity.

To Wrap Up:

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I have been closely watching reviews of this box as the first couple looked amazing, but I was wary due to the combination of the price and it being a brand new box. Unfortunately what appealed to me was that it is primarily a snack box with a few other fun items and this month just didn’t bring the snacks. If I wanted a curated lifestyle box I would get one of the 5000 that already exist. Bummer.

Honestly I am so over people writing books to tell me how to be better, do better, look better etc. Everyone is different and 1 person doesn’t make the rules on how you should dress, or do your makeup or date or any of the other crap people call trending. I personally don’t want to be one of the crowd, I would rather stand out in that crowd.
