Lip Monthly October 2018 Review

This month's theme is “On a Bad Day There's Always Lipstick" and they included a note about how these colors will help keep our lips fresh as the weather gets cooler.

Each month, Lip Monthly sends their products in a little makeup bag. I love that it is a smaller bag, just a bit bigger than my iPhone plus (which doesn't fit inside) and has a soft material on the outside with this really fun Halloween theme with cobwebs, pumpkins, and candy. My 2-year-old actually stole it from me since the pictures of lollipops made him think that's what was inside!

Luna by Luna Queen Lip Oil - Retail Value $18

The packaging for this lip oil is so cute! I love lip oils and how hydrating they are and this one is pretty good, although it feels more glossy than the one I typically use. It says it provides a sheer hint of color, and it must be really sheer, because I didn't notice too much color on my lips, but I did like the way it made them look. I think this will be great to pair with a matte shade for some extra hydration.

Lord & Berry Lip and Cheek Crayon in Rose - Listed Value $15 (I couldn't find this exact pencil online but I linked to the one that looked closest!)

This crayon is a 'your lips but better' shade, for sure! I love this crayon and how it gives my lips just a bit of matte pink color. The staying power on this is great and I love that it only goes where I want it to since it's a crayon. It also doubles as a cheek crayon, although I think I'll probably just stick to this on my lips!

Here I paired it with the Luna Lip Oil to give it a glossy finish and make my lips feel a bit more hydrated. My favorite look from this month!

Bellapierre Holographic Lip Gloss in Jupiter - Listed Value $19.95

Look how shimmery and iridescent this color is! It feels very much like a fun pick for Halloween with the orange and gold colors and it has a slight fruity scent. I wasn't able to locate this lip gloss online anywhere and I'm not sure if I should be worried about that or not.

It wasn't as flashy on my lips as I thought it would be and I like the way the shimmer seems to accentuate my bottom lip making it appear fuller. If I rub it into my lips I can achieve an even more subtle effect which is nice, but it is pretty sticky and if applied too thickly it quickly spreads outside the lines of my lips. It doesn't really have the feel of a $20 gloss to me.

Lip Monthly Lipstick in 02 - Listed Value $16

I was almost prepared to write this off immediately with its very vibrant orange color, but I actually kind of dig it! It's way different than what I would normally wear, but it's so perfect for the fall and a Halloween themed bag. I couldn't locate it on their site, so I'm guessing it's an exclusive color. This goes on fairly smooth and wears down pretty nicely, but it's a bit thin and almost greasy feeling. It will do for a fun pop of color, but definitely not a formula I'd want to wear every day.

Swatches from top to bottom, Luna by Luna Oil, Bellapierre gloss, Lip Monthly lipstick, and Lord & Berry crayon.

Verdict: I liked the Halloween vibe I got from this month's Lip Monthly delivery. It irks me a bit that I couldn't locate three of the four items online though (although somewhat more understandable with the Lip Monthly exclusive). I do like that they send a variety of lip products each month and I'm really happy with the Lord & Berry Lip Crayon. I'll definitely use the lip oil, but the two orange products will probably only be used occasionally which is fine with me since the lip crayon was worth the cost of the box alone. I had to go by the listed value for most of the items and I came up with a total of $68.95 which is much higher than the $12.95 cost of the box. While I think a few items might have somewhat inflated values, if you just take the average for the four items, you get $3.34 per product which is definitely more than fair.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I must have lucked out because I’ve never had a problem with Lip Monthly. I purchased a 6-month subscription as a gift, and then got one for myself, too. Even if I didn’t like one or two products in the bag, I could give them away and still felt like the value was good since the bag cost less than the typical cost for just one product. I think there website could be a bit better, but when I had to contact customer service for help with something (the two subscriptions getting mixed up – ultimately I had to use two different emails addresses), they responded quickly and occasionally would even message me to make sure i got my bag. No issues receiving each bag, and the only reason I did not renew my subscription was because I have plenty of lip product now to last me for a while!

I had my bank dispute the charges yesterday. They charged me almost $13. Didn’t send a thing.

Really not happy with this subscription! I cancelled mine….and have since found out they have resubscribed me twice, without my doing! I inconveniently cant access the website until I have to resign back up….just seems all a little odd. I had the three month plan, only received one month of products. The products were a mix of ok and just not my color….but nothing terrible. The main problem is my lack of trust in the company!

So disgusted with this company. I’ve received all kinds of replies from them in the last 10 days. I told them to put me on an every other month plan, then saw where I was charged anyway this month. One person said my account had already been cancelled, yet no refund. The story now is that I’m getting the bag. Just slow this month. Website still says I don’t have an account.
Out of all their items, maybe I’ll like one or two. Usually one if that.

So I messaged Bellapierre customer service and they confirmed that the holographic lip gloss is a new holiday product that will be released as a gift set and later as singles. It is a prerelease product so you are actually getting it before it is officially released. However, I also messaged Lord and Berry to enquire about the shade of the lip and cheek crayon, and all they would say is it is not available on their website. I did ask if it was a discontinued shade and they just stated it was not available on their site. I asked in response if it was an old shade and they did not reply further. Maybe a coincidence but I think not. It probably isn’t expired or anything, but I doubt it is the value they say as a discontinued product. Cool about the Bellapierre, though.

Awesome about the Bellapierre! Not sure what to think on the Lord & Berry though! 🤔 Thanks for checking into that and for sharing, Rachael! 😊

I give them 1 star only because I have to.

they are scamming and stealing money from their customers and I am about to make a lawsuit and report them

I was a loyal costumer for the last almost 2 years. I cancelled my subscription and stopped receiving bags since august 2018 and I just found out i was charged with 203$ just like this even though i am no longer a costumer and no longer receiving bags ! more over the free bags they promise you , are never came to me . if this is not enough , their costumer service are promising that they are taking care of it, last thing that I know , they punish me with charging 203 $ that they don’t deserve.

I am having all the evidences and if I won’t get my money back + my bag we will meet in court . I announced my credit card company to block them too.

BE CAREFUL!

I was with lip monthly for about 2 years when they first came out. I cancelled because I felt I was always getting alot of balms and chapsticks. The lip colors they would send were more malibu pink barbie then darker colors. I would think at this point they would have better brands.I tried them again I am on my second bag and I am just cancelling for good. I mean they could by too faced melted and put it in the bag its better then these brands I have never heard of and discontinued balms.

I am not a gloss person at all and I haven’t tried a lip oil yet. I hate the lipstick isn’t a good formula because it looks great on you. I wasn’t so sure about it either when I saw it in the tube but it turned out great on you. I guess to get one good item is worth it. I wonder if you can ask for no glosses if I subscribed? Probably not and I am sure my daughters would use them. Thanks for a great review.

I got this sub for a friend. She has the perfect skin tone to pull off the orange shades in this box & fell in love with it

This would have been an amazing bag for me, except the lip oil was missing from my bag, the Lord and Berry lip liner was the same mandarin orange I received in my Ipsy bag a couple of months ago and it is just an awful colour. The Lip Monthly lipstick was a royal purple and the gloss was just okay. If I was aiming for a vibrant Halloween look, this would be it! lol
I suppose another issue I had was how CS really didn’t have a clue about what month my bag was being shipped, they said November and I received it the day I talked with them. I ended up unsubscribing and maybe I will consider it again in the future when things get better.

Thanks for putting your pictures right after you show the color. I hate when all the swatches are left for the end of a review and I cant remember what is what!

So annually costs more than monthly lol… Maybe if they changed that I would consider.

Reply ButtonReply

Brandi D.

Hi Shaina! Thanks for catching that! It was actually an error (should be $155.40, not $155.95, which I have corrected now!) so annual costs the same as monthly, however, it looks like the 25% off can be applied to the annual purchase bringing it down to $116.55 for the year! Hope that helps! 🙂

I was thinking the same thing. 🙂 I remember back when I used to sub to Lip Monthly one my most favorite part of the subscription was the cute bags they included. I always felt they were on par with Ipsy bags…. a bit smaller, but still super cute.
