i just gotta say this, and sorry if i offend…

advent calendars are intended as GIFTS–all i see, over & over, is how many buy these–and more than one, mind you–for themselves, and complain about already receiving the samples in the reg sub boxes…

maybe that’s the universe’s way of telling you, this is an obscene waste of money, especially on yourself, ffs…

i buy the qvc box, around $70–i buy them as GIFTS, for the very special women in my life…not so i can hoard yet another 24 tiny samples…

(and, i seriously doubt these are “full-size” products, as someone stated…)

I think this is the best of all advents calendars, it includes 18 full sized products and is worth $800. I also reached out to customer service to confirm that the US will receive the same items as Europe including the Le Labo perfume which alone has a value of $80.

Many products are listed 30ml or 50ml’s. I don’t see 18 full size items here..

Thanks for reaching out Carmen! 🙂 I didn’t think about the fragrances not being sent. I think we could still get them, but it would have to be shipped ground? But I’m not savvy when it comes to shipping restrictions, so what do I know? ha!

I haven’t bothered to look, but I was wondering if the Harrod’s U.K. vs. U.S. calendars are the same too. Only because they did originally have that disclaimer that it was U.K. only, then a little while later they said it would ship to the U.S. Maybe they just wanted to give U.K. folks first dibs? 🙂

Hi Luna, customer service confirmed that the spoiled products are the same for European and US customers 🙂

darcy

Got mine right away- so excited- the Liberty one is a bucket list item for me. With really good boxes, I save them and refill them with other items in future years. The Liberty store looks so festive and reminds me of years spent in London around the holiday. Joy!

I ordered mine too and I’m already SO ANXIOUS for it to arrive! Eeek!

Luna

Me too! 😀 My Harrod’s one has already shipped, and I can’t wait!

As someone who doesn’t celebrate Christmas, it’s occurred to me that these companies are getting away with murder–price-wise, anyway–on these advent calendars because of the allure of the Christmas season. All of these calendars, even the luxe ones, are obscenely priced. I love Net-a-Porter and similar beauty bags, but I’d never shell out for one of these.

missann

I totally agree and Net-a-Porter does a fantastic job with their SE boxes etc. I don’t know the price of this box anyway. What is it?

Reply ButtonReply

JuJu

It’s $285.

michelle

I find myself wondering … is the target market for advent calendars completely unaware of subscription boxes? Allure or Beautyfix (and a number of other boxes) will send you 7-9 items for $10-25! So I haven’t even considered any of these, and have even commented that I could come close to assembling some of them from my stash sans the wasteful packaging. So maybe sub box addicts aren’t their target market.

JuJu

Although I agree with your general point that this could only look like a good deal to someone unfamiliar with beauty subs.

JuJu

Actually, based on the comments here on MSA, it’s the biggest sub addicts who do buy the advent calendars.

At least that’s been my impression. 🙂

Jessica

As someone who does celebrate Christmas, I still agree. These are all ridiculously over priced. You are right it actually is obscene, people spending this much on something like this when there are kids that won’t even get a Christmas this year. That $300 could buy a lot of toys for tots. It’s supposed to be the season of giving not hoarding lol.

Do they refund the VAT back at checkout if we live in the US or is it £220 including shipping to the USA? Some companies refund the VAT and some don’t. It actually makes a big difference bc the VAT is probably almost $50 off the price.

C.

They take out VAT. It’s approximately $286 with shipping to the US.

Angie

Goo! I caved and got both the Liberty & Harrod’s seriously this season is killing me! Someone come take my wallet away!

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

It says right in the text on their site that the offer isn’t applicable to the calendar.

Reply ButtonReply

Cindy

What offer?

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I think they’re referring to the 10% discount code that was originally mentioned in the MSA post. It looks like MSA has since removed the code from the post.

JuJu

Nah, Harrod’s for about the same price looks a lot better.

Not that I am getting either one, lol. 😉

Jody

Let’s all just take a trip to London!

Paula

Won’t save you any money buying them in London – or anything else for that matter – unless you go to the discount shops or get some wicked boxing day bargains!

My friend just got her mum to wait in line to get her the No.7 advent calendar. Also overpriced, but still waaaay cheaper than the majority of these ones! Brits go crazy for their advent calendars!!!

I always said I get this one if it shipped to the US and now I have it just sitting in my cart. The US price is $285 but I’m just not thrilled over anything but yet I still want it…. Decisions, decisions.

Reply ButtonReply

Rosemary

That’s Ok to have it in your cart and not buy it; it’s like having the opportunity to buy it without the commitment. You will either get buyer’s remorse or FOMO about 83% of the time. I think that having it within your grasp, but not pulling the trigger, is the safest bet out there.

Reply ButtonReply

Lana

Same. I wanted this so bad two years ago and now I kind of gave up on it. I do want the perfume in it, that’s $80… now to justify the other $200 lol

Reply ButtonReply

aldama

I’m sure the perfumes won’t be included re “flammable” items not being shipped to the US?

Julie

Wait two days and see how it compared to the full size NM box from popsugar and then Decide. Pretty sure the popsugar box may even be cheaper so you can still grab a beauty sample box too.

ME

Good idea but I expect it will be sold out by tomorrow. They have a limited number of boxes for the US. Ultimately I decided against it. Really nice items but I’m on product overload and there just wasn’t that over the top item I wanted.

AnninVA

It will probably be sold out by tomorrow.
