Ipsy September 2018 Review
My bag this month features skincare, hair care, and makeup. Let’s see what I got!
Each month, Ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their 5 items.
This month, subscribers will receive this black canvas bag with metallic champagne trim, bright pink lining, and white lashes printed on it.
Neuma NeuMoisture Instant Fix - 30ml Estimated Value $4 (buy a 75ml bottle for $10)
If you like leave-in conditioning spray, then this lightweight, multi-use product may be for you. It moisturizes and protects from heat while making hair shiny. It does have silicones in it, which I try to avoid on my hair (CG method), but John likes it to smoothe his wavy hair in the morning.
Apto Healing Turmeric Mask - 15ml Estimated Value $8 (buy a 30ml tube for $16)
I like that I received a non-sheet mask this month. Turmeric and Neem help naturally disinfect while Azelaic Acid exfoliates (and is especially good for rosacea). Even though this is meant for more oily, break-out prone skin, it worked well to calm down redness and inflammation on my dry, sensitive skin. I’m not sure what I expected the scent to be (curry, maybe?) but instead has an essential oil smell that isn’t overwhelming.
mPrincess Loose Eyeshadow in Pretty Petal - FULL SIZE 1.2g Retail Value $15.45
This little jar of loose mineral powder didn’t excite me at first, but the color is so pretty. It’s a plummy-rose tone with champagne colored shimmer. It looks beautiful buffed all over the lid or as an accent on top of darker shades. It lasts all day and doesn’t leave any fallout.
Tréstique Mini Lip Glaze in English Rose - .7g Estimated Value $9.72 (buy the full-size for $25)
Doesn’t this lip pencil look like it’s lost its lid?! That’s what I thought at first. The full-sized version (this is the mini) has an included primer end but the color wears so well I don’t think it needs it. I love the cranberry red shade and pigmented, but not thick, formula. It applies smoothly and leaves a balmy finish that lasts. Even after eating, I had a pretty stain left that looked nice.
Luxie Beauty Harley Quinn Detail Flat Definer 110 - Retail Value $20
Surprisingly, I don’t own a brush like this. The flat top is meant to blend concealer and foundation into hard to reach places or over blemishes. It does that well but I find that it’s perfect for blending out highlight in the corner of my eyes or around my brows. Plus, I like that Luxie is a cruelty-free vegan company.
Swatches (from left to right): Tréstique Lip Glaze and mPrincess Eyeshadow.
So, I went really simple with this look and let the product do the work. After masking with the turmeric mask, my skin felt toned and mattified. I applied my regular face products but tried carving out my brows with concealer (not my norm) and blending it out with the Luxie brush. It worked so well! Then I buffed the Pretty Petal shadow over my whole lid and into the crease with a fluffy brush. I dabbed another layer onto just my lid with my finger for some intensity. I lined my lower lid with it as well and layered on some mascara. Then a swipe of the English Rose lip glaze and I was done. I love the blown out, single shadow look. And it’s super quick to do. The lip glaze added a nice polish to the look without much effort.
Verdict: This Ipsy Glam Bag has a value of $57.17 which is great for $10. The makeup items were a hit and I love trying new skincare. The only thing I’m not crazy about is the leave-in spray, but John will use it. Ipsy is a great way to try new products without much risk and I hope next month includes more new products and brands.
