Cuddle Crate September 2018 Box

Cuddle Crate is a monthly subscription box for pets. You can opt for a dog box (choose your dog size), a cat box, or a small animal box (select gerbil/hamster or rabbit/guinea pig). You can also combine pet types with higher tier subscriptions (i.e., get a combined cat/rabbit box) and opt for a bi-monthly box if monthly is too often for you.

This review is of the Bronze Level Cat subscription for $29.95 a month.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Cuddle Crate September 2018 Review

Cuddle Crate typically sends out a variety of toy types as well as (usually) one package of treats if you have the single pet type option selected. Let’s see what the cats got this month:

Cuddle Crate September 2018 Booklet

They’ve moved away from an information card listing the items in the box and instead are directing you to a URL where you can look up more information about the items.

Cuddle Crate September 2018 Bird

Ourpets Orange Realbird – Estimated Value $4.58

I found this on wholesale sites, but not for retail sale, so I took the value from a similar “Realbird” toy from Ourpets. This makes sounds so after photos it was immediately put into the home office (essentially, far, far away from the bedroom but also not where Nyx can get to it) for Angus to enjoy at night. My cats were mostly interested in the feathers, which is not a surprise to me.

Cuddle Crate September 2018 Bubbles

Cat Incredibubbles – Retail Value $3.46 (found on sale here for $3.28)

These are interesting. The liquid is super thick and I actually found bubbles stuck to the dining room wall two days later. Apparently, this is a feature, not a bug. In practice, what happened was Angus had lots of bubbles stuck to his whiskers, which was funny, and I had to clean bubbles off of my camera afterward, which was not so funny (since it is an expensive DSLR). I was interested to see if Angus liked bubbles since my previous BUBBLE SLAYER (Mr. Kitty) can’t see anymore. And Angus does like bubbles, which makes me happy.

Cuddle Crate September 2018 Bunny

Ourpets Bunny Backyard Friend – Retail Value $4.99

This is another noise-making toy so it is also in the home office. I think some of the bubbles (which are catnip-scented) spilled on this (not the fault of the box, this is something I apparently caused), which made it extra-interesting to Sneaky.

Cuddle Crate September 2018 Mouse

Ourpets Wee Pinkiemouse Real Mouse – Retail Value $7.60

This one also makes noise! My cats are not really into the noise aspect, but this toy has lots of interesting textures, as you can see, and that is something my cats are into lately. This got more chin rubbing and licking than tossing around but that’s OK, all of my cats but Angus are seniors and there’s not so much active play these days.

Cuddle Crate September 2018 Wine

Catwine Meowsling (1.6 oz) – Retail Value $4.95

Cat wine is definitely a Monkey thing. This has filtered water, catnip, and salmon oil. Everyone was willing to sniff it, but Monkey is the primary one to drink it. Which is honestly good, he needs more water intake. (There are several different varieties of cat wine but I really don’t think they differ much other than the organic food coloring color that’s included.)

Gratuitous cat photos:

Here are some shots of Angus with bubbles.

Cuddle Crate September 2018 Madison 1 Cuddle Crate September 2018 Madison 2

Madison likes feathers. He sniffed the wine, too.

Cuddle Crate September 2018 Monkey 1 Cuddle Crate September 2018 Monkey 2 Cuddle Crate September 2018 Monkey 3

I think Monkey was a bit annoyed that I interrupted his nap in the sunny window. (He follows the sun around the house during the day, he’s got it all figured out.)

Cuddle Crate September 2018 Sneaky 1 Cuddle Crate September 2018 Sneaky 2 Cuddle Crate September 2018 Sneaky 3 Cuddle Crate September 2018 Sneaky 4

Sneaky was a bit more playful with the small toys than usual, especially the bunny.

Cuddle Crate September 2018 Sparkles 1 Cuddle Crate September 2018 Sparkles 2

Mr. Kitty was awake, which was nice. Smells and textures are pretty much all he has to work with these days and he did get to enjoy some of those.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $25.59 for the September Cuddle Crate for cats subscription box. That is below the month-to-month cost of the subscription, but then last month was quite a bit higher, so it kind of averages out. Of course, if you sign up for a longer-term subscription or a multiple pet type subscriptions you will likely get a better deal. I appreciated that even though we received three chirping toys from the same company, there were a variety of textures so the toys all seemed different to my cats.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the October box. Also, there is some customization involved, especially for the multi-pet boxes, so there may be some variation even among September boxes.

I’ve used regular bubbles for my cats. The catnip scented ones would be a nice addition. I would like to see how they react to that.

I actually find that regular bubbles make way better bubbles than catnip-scented ones. (Angus likes bubbles made of dish soap so he clearly isn’t into them for the scent.)
