Cloth & Paper is a monthly stationery subscription box from lifestyle and stationery shop, Cloth & Paper.

In addition to the Stationery Subscription Box, Cloth & Paper offers a pens-and-pencils-focused subscription called “Penspiration,” a stationery box focused on stationery items and a box combining the two. With the Penspritation and Stationery Box subscription (which I’m reviewing today), you can expect 5-8 stationery items plus 4-6 pens!

This review is of the Cloth & Paper Penspiration and Stationery, $48 a month, box.

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - 2019 Planner Front

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - 2019 Planner Back

2019 Planner

The first item we received in this month’s box is a 2019 planner! This is such a big, cool item and I am so excited! The only thing that immediately worries me is how flimsy the cover is. It feels like construction paper and I know it will be easily damaged, especially over the course of a year.

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - 2019 Planner Front 1

The planner has a pocket on the front flap for cards, stickies or reminders you need for the year.

It also has two pages in the front dedicated to a mini 2019 calendar for a reference.

The planner starts with October 2018, perfect!!!

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - 2019 Planner Front 4

At the beginning of each month, we have a page dedicated to birthdays, upcoming events and important dates. There is also a section for goals and changes: Do More and Do Less. I love this!

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - 2019 Planner Front 5

The days are divided by weeks and each day has a section for notes, whether it's for tasks, appointments or just general notes. It also has the current calendar displayed in the left-hand corner along with priorities for that week. No excuses to forget!

At the end of each month, we are presented with additional pages for more notes. We’ve got 4 pages of numbered lines, be it for new contacts or general notes. I just love this planner!

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - Monthly Planner Tab Stickers Front 1

Monthly Planner Tab Stickers

The next item we got were these golden tabs. We received two pages of all the months in a calendar year. I really think these were made for our planner, so I immediately added to mine!

The only downside is there isn’t a tab for the tab stickers, so they don’t stick out for easy flipping. Either way, they are still a bit noticeable for quick access.

The next item we received is more stickies! This tablet contains 2 columns of 15 lines and a box for a header.

Black Pen

The last item we received in our Cloth & Paper box was this black pen. It is .05mm and wrote perfectly!

The next part of the review is of the Penspiration subscription. Cloth & Paper allows you to subscribe to this on its own or paired with the stationery box. With every Pensipiration subscription, you get this way cool see-through pen/pencil pouch to hold all your fantastic new writing tools!

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - White and Silver Writing Utensils Set of 5 Top 2

This month, we received 5 superior white and silver writing utensils.

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - Kaco Surface Pen Front

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - Kaco Surface Pen Side

Kaco Surface Pen

The first pen must be special since it came in its own case, right? That is the first thing I thought when I saw it and opened it up.

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - Silver Barrel Black Pen Side

The pen has a silver barrel and white accent pieces including the clip.

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - Silver Barrel Black Pen Top

It has black gel ink and wrote okay. I still like the black pen we received in the Cloth & Paper stationery box above.

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - Skinny Gel Pen Side

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - Skinny Gel Pen Open Side

Skinny Gel Pen

When I first saw this pen, I didn’t think I would like it. When I wrote with it, I determined the pen didn’t like me. This pen is all white and is 0.38 mm.

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - Skinny Gel Pen Open with Notebook Front

It is just so small and tall and is hard to write with because it requires precision since it is so small and light. I didn’t like the way I wrote with it. But I won't give up! I love pens and use them daily, I am determined to eventually love this pen.

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - M&G Gel Pen Side 1

M&G Gel Pen

This pen is so sophisticated and cool, it is an immediate fave! It features a white barrel and has a lid with a silver clip.

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - M&G Gel Pen Side 2

But my favorite part of this pen was its shape! It has an octagon prism barrel making it easy to grip.

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - M&G Gel Pen Open Side

The pen is also 0.38mm like the Skinny Gel Pen above, but the octagon barrel makes writing so much easier since there is more control.

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - M&G Gel Pen with Notebook Side

The pen writes in black gel ink. As you can see here, the handwriting is so much better. (Still determined to love that skinny pen!)

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - Kaco Rocket Mechanical Pencil Side

Kaco Rocket Mechanical Pencil

At first, I didn’t realize this was a pencil and that is what I love about it. It looks like a pen and feels like a pen but it isn’t! The barrel is a solid white, with a white clip.

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - Kaco Rocket Mechanical Pencil with Notebook Side

It requires 0.5mm lead and writes as smoothly as a pencil does. It's exciting to get a pencil in a world of pens.

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - Pilot Juice Up 04 Pen

Pilot Juice Up 04 Pen

This pen looked so neat right out of the bag and I was so excited to try it out. It features a white barrel and white clip. When I first tested it, though, it didn’t work! I was immediately disappointed, which was odd because Cloth & Paper never disappoints me. But then something magical happened!

Cloth & Paper Box September 2018 - White Paper Front

Dun, dun, duuuun!! It is WHITE ink! No wonder I couldn’t get this to work on white paper. What I thought was a loss is an absolute gain! I love this pen!!

Verdict: I just said it, but I will say it again – Cloth & Paper ever disappoints me! They send such original, modern style office products and I feel like their number 1 fan! The planner was such a treat this month because it will last all year. It is not like other planners and I really feel like it was made for me. I do hate the flimsy covers but will look into something to put them in because I do not want to give up the planner. I also love that I get a new sticky pad every month, I go through these so quickly.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but it looks like you have until the 16th to subscribe and receive the November box.

Their curation is always so on point. I hope they include a cover for the planner in the next box! Also, couldn’t you just put the month tab sticker on the page so that it is offset and sticking out like a standard tab, with the reverse tab on the other side of the page?

The cover bums me out too! It’s so wobbly. It probably would have also helped if the front part was attached to the spiral. I’m guessing it was made specifically for the agenda covers? I don’t really want to buy a separate product for this though. :/

With that said, I absolutely *love* the contents. The monthly dashboards are clever and useful. The notes pages are great and I like the fact that each week has a priority section. The paper is super high quality and has great texture and weight. It’s all very unique yet practical!

…I just wish it was sturdy enough for me to actually take it outside of my house without worrying. 🙁
