This month’s box also includes the usual Cairn Scout publication, which gives you more details about the products (the sunglasses are made from recycled materials! and the Croakies use a lightweight stainless steel cable), as well details on this month’s “Adventure Upgrade” prize, and more. This month’s Scout is all about the fall–doubling down on what you already know–the fall is an amazing time to hit the trails (less busy than summer and with some beautiful foliage depending on where you live).

Sunski Navarros Polarized Sunglasses – Retail Value $58

The big ticket item (in my humble opinion) for this month’s box were these Sunski Polarized Sunglasses, shown here in the Tortoise Forest color. The sunglasses have received an impressive 4.1 out of 5 rating on the Sunski site and I must agree–they are fantastic! The hinges are sturdy and stay on your face (even while getting active), they are polarized but not too dark, and they are relatively light-weight. The icing on the cake is that the glasses are made from recycled materials so they are helping protect the planet as well as your eyes.

Croakies Arc Endless – Retail Value $14.99

What could go better with your new sunglasses than a pair of Croakies? These Croakies are the company’s most advanced eyewear retention system (well at least according to them) and offer a number of benefits over your typical Croakie. They are super lightweight. The rubber ends means they hold onto your glasses like a vice grip. And best of all, they look stylish. These Croakies are perfect for those more extreme fall adventures whether that is climbing in Yosemite or sea kayaking off the coast.

Cairn October 2018 Review Picky Bar

Cairn October 2018 Review Picky Bar 2

Chai Flavored Picky Bar – Retail Value $2.75

The final item in this month’s box was this delicious Chai flavored bar from Picky Bars called Chai and Catch Me. As a bit of a bar connoisseur myself, I have to say this bar blew me away. The flavor was unique and tasty, the texture wasn’t too dry, and the ingredients are all natural and healthy. The ingredients include dates, almost butter, ginger and more. Picky Bars are made by and for athletes, offering a balanced nutrition from plant-based proteins, to to nuts and healthier sugars, such as honey.

Verdict: Cairn was a winner this month. The sunglasses alone are valued at $58, almost twice as much as Cairn’s $29.95 monthly price point, which includes free US shipping! Beyond this, everyone needs a good pair of Croakies and the bar was delicious. The October Cairn box is really the perfect gift to make sure you can make the most of fall weather and get your non-snow adventures in before winter sets in.

I live in San Francisco and am an avid adventurer. Ever since finding MSA I fell in love snack boxes (both healthy boxes and candy boxes), fitness boxes, and clothing boxes, which save me time and help me stay stylish without leaving the house. When not working in the city, I am usually out skiing, rock climbing, or relaxing with a good book.

  1. Just curious, what state do you live in and what activities did you say you participate in on your Cairn profile?

I’m a current subscriber and I keep seeing posts about really nice high ticket items and for some reason, I’m not getting any of them.

    Thanks for any info!

  2. Welcome aboard Nathan! I have been watching the reviews on this box as a gift idea for my brother. It always seems like a solid value.

    • Thanks for the welcome! Yes, I would love getting this as a gift. Solid value especially for the first number of boxes, with so many items being useful in building up an outdoors kit (sunglasses, multi-tool, etc.).
