The Vegan Cuts Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. All of their products are vegan (and they tend to be natural, too). They also typically include a nice mix of full-size and sample beauty items. Vegan Cuts also offers a monthly Snack Box and quarterly Makeup Box.

products packaged in a black organza bag tied

Vegan Cuts sends a single package to subscribers who get both the beauty and snack boxes. The beauty items are separated into a little bag. (If you do not get the snack box, I don’t think you get the little bag.)

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This review is of the Vegan Cuts Beauty, $22.95 a month, box.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box September 2018 Review

The Vegan Cuts Beauty box usually contains a variety of hair care, skincare, and bath and body products. There’s often one makeup product, as well:

Each Vegan Cuts Beauty Box comes with an information card detailing the items for that month.

Bogavia Pure and Fresh Exfoliating Facial Scrub (2.5 fl oz)

Bogavia Pure and Fresh Exfoliating Facial Scrub (2.5 fl oz) – Retail Value $20

I love facial scrubs but, unfortunately, this one didn’t really do it for me. It exfoliates with jojoba beads, which are not super concentrated here (I like scrubs with smaller, more concentrated particles, like Derma E Microdermabrasion scrub or Vasanti BrightenUp). Anyway, I’m not sure how effective this is at exfoliating. I used this after washing my face with an oil-based cleanser and there was still makeup on my face after I rinsed this off.

Honestly Phresh Tropical Blossom Prebiotic Natural Deodorant – Listed Value $5 (buy 2.5 oz for $9.99)

I do not know the size of this sample so I used the value from the information card. While I appreciate that this is free of baking soda (since baking soda gives me a rash), it is scented with essential oils, which are also a no-go for me in the underarm area (essential oils usually have more components, some unidentified, as compared to artificial fragrances, and are just as likely to cause an allergic or sensitivity reaction). It smells good but a patch test on my inner elbow caused some redness so I am avoiding this one.

Sade Baron Vulcano Castile Soap Detox Body Wash (1 fl oz)

Sade Baron Vulcano Castile Soap Detox Body Wash (1 fl oz) – Estimated Value $2.50 (buy 4 oz for $10)

This brand shows up a lot in Vegan Cuts but I am a fan of their body lotions and am happy to sample the rest of their product line. This is designed for people with sensitive skin and includes tea tree oil. That plus the activated charcoal make this a nice option for me after exercise to keep from breaking out. I have only used this once so far, and I was happy with everything from the scent to the immediate performance as a body wash, and am hoping that I will have made a decision about effectiveness at keeping my skin looking good by the time the sample runs out.

Manna Kadar Blossom Blush and Highlighter – Listed Value $21

This has a slightly different look than the compact on the Manna Kadar site, and I would guess that it is a bit smaller than full size, so I have used the value from the information card, which is a bit lower than the full-size value (there is no product weight listed on the sample size).  s you will see below in the swatches, the middle and bottom shades are super-pigmented. Like, instant clown face for someone as pale as I am. I found that if I used one of those soft toothbrush-style makeup brushes to apply it and lightly tapped it on my cheeks, that I could get an appropriate level of color.

Laritzy Cosmetics Eye Pencil in Gold (0.037 oz)

Laritzy Cosmetics Eye Pencil in Gold (0.037 oz) – Listed Value $18

There are only black eye pencils on the Laritzy site, but I am honestly glad to get a color other than black (I don’t wear black eyeliner very often). I first tried this over a light eyeshadow color and it didn’t show up much at all. So the second time I tried it, I put it over a darker orange, and it did show up then and provided a nice contrast and lightness to my eyes. The texture is so-so for me, I still think the Julep and Urban Decay pencils glide on a lot more smoothly.

Zuii Organic Flora Mascara (0.24 oz) – Retail Value $27.50

The information card gives a higher value for this item, but the mascaras that have that higher value on the Zuii site have totally different packaging and names so I think I have the right product here. This is a decent mascara. I found that I had to put on multiple coats to get it to show up. But, it didn’t irritate my eyes and it was easy to remove, and those last two points are very important to me.

Here are swatches of the highlighter, two blush shades, and eye pencil. (The highlighter swatch really is there, it just doesn’t show up so much on my arm.)

Verdict: I calculated a value of $94 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Beauty Box. That is even better than last month, which, itself, was quite high. This was a makeup-heavy box but all the makeup items were useful to me (and I don’t subscribe to many beauty boxes so I am not overflowing with Manna Kadar). I liked the body wash and was happy to try a new brand of scrub, even if it didn’t really end up doing what I needed it to. (Not everything you sample is going to work for you, personally!)

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, the September box is still available. They don't have a standard cut-off date, but boxes ship until their next month's spoilers launch (typically between the 26th and 29th of each month). If you are interested in trying some of the items, though, watch the Vegan Cuts shop for sales – they offer large bundles of past items fairly regularly.

Value Breakdown: At $22.95 for the box, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Scrub $4.88
  • Deodorant $1.22
  • Body wash $0.61
  • Blush/highlighter $5.13
  • Eyeliner $4.39
  • Mascara $6.71
