Trunk Club For Women August 2018 Review

My month’s trunk arrived to me in its Trunk Club trademark cardboard shipping box fashioned to resemble a suitcase. I am rather fond of the personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.

They include a pamphlet that provides product information, how to get the most from your trunk, and free shipping label and tape strips.

Here is a close up of the list of items I received and their costs.

Cutout Top in Blanc de Blanc by Michel Studio, Size 2x — Retail Value $48

Sadly, I couldn’t find this top on the site for you guys to purchase for yourselves! You might think this top is a basic piece, but it has a lot of zest and sass! The teardrop cutouts at the neckline add a touch of sex appeal by showing a bit of skin but remains modest. The fabric has ample stretch and is incredibly soft. The top is a tad long in length, but that allows it to easily be tucked into jeans or a skirt. Wear this with a pencil skirt, blazer, and heels at the office for some Amanda Woodward from Melrose Place boss lady realness or with jeans and flats for a special touch to an otherwise relaxed ensemble!

Sheri Tassel Hem Ankle Slim Jeans by NYDJ, Size 20W — Retail Value $119

THESE PANTS! I absolutely adore these jeans! Let’s start with the fit. These pants offer a lot of stretch, but they manage to not lose their shape. I’m a sucker for tassels if you guys weren’t aware, so I loved the ones featured at the bottom hem.  I had to restrain myself from putting these in the keep pile because I was going to Curvy Con within a week or two and also because these pants seem more appropriate for summer than fall. I am going to keep my eyes peeled for them to go on sale so that they can be added to my Summer 2019 wardrobe. Wear these with a halter and Bad Sandy wooden clog heels for a last hooray before sweater weather takes over!

Denim A-Line Skirt by Wit & Wisdom Size 22W

Denim A-Line Skirt by Wit & Wisdom, Size 22W — Retail Value $78 (found here for $46.80)

Denim pieces are a must in everyone’s wardrobe and this denim skirt is a true classic! A piece like this is a great value because it can be worn all year long! Wit & Wisdom is a brand I have reviewed for several of my subscription boxes. Their fit is always on the mark and their quality is undeniable. This skirt is well made, has ample stretch, and is incredibly comfortable to wear. You can wear it in the warmer months with a sleeveless floral shirt and embellished sandals and in the fall with a bulky sweater, tights, booties, and a beret. This skirt is now on sale on the site; if I didn’t already have a similar skirt I would jump on it myself!

Cascade Ruffle Dress by MICHAEL Michael Kors, Size 2x — Retail Value $135

This dress takes me back to my twenties, dancing in a dark lit club to 80s hits by Blondie, The Pet Shop Boys, New Order, and Prince to name a few. I would have sashayed into the club like I owned it if I had this dress back then! This piece is Dynasty opulence with 2018 structure and fabric. The dress has ample stretch and the fit is great! Wear this to the office with strappy, block heels or out for drinks later paired with your favorite black moto jacket. Move over Krystle Carrington, there is a new glamorous babe in town.

Cutout Tee by Sejour, Size 2x

Cutout Tee by Sejour, Size 2x — Retail Value $49

This is another staple piece for any wardrobe! This cutout tee gives me refined Peg Bundy vibes; you know I would style this with leopard leggings and high heeled mules, but that goes without saying! This top is wonderfully soft and has lots of stretch—so much so I think I could easily go down to a 1x! This top would look amazing styled with a plaid circle skirt and oxford shoes for crisp Autumn days or with a faux leather mini-skirt and heels for a date night!

Zipper Detail Ponte Pencil Skirt by Sejour Size, 22W — Retail Value $89

I love a good pencil skirt, but sadly this skirt didn’t work out for me! It was too big and hung on me, especially due to the stretchy ponte fabric. The length was too long on me and even though the skirt was a wee bit big on me, the zipper kept unzipping. Those grievances aside, I do like the color and style of the skirt. This skirt looks phenomenal with the Sejour black cut out tee, but I could see it paired with a fitted striped button down or a sleeveless mock turtleneck top-- both looks would be incredibly chic!

Blue Bell Dress by City Chic Size LW(20W)

Blue Bell Dress by City Chic, Size LW(20W) — Retail Value $99

I love the retro style of this dress. The sleeves are rather voluminous, but the cut is immensely flattering! The deep v-neck on the dress and tie at the waist also enhance my curves well. The fabric has limited stretch but is rather lightweight and ideal for warmer weather months. The only negative is this is a true wrap style dress: they forever boggle my mind when trying to put them on. I had to get my photographer (my dad) to help me get this one on. Otherwise, it is a gorgeous dress! This can be worn in colder months with tights, booties, a navy beret, and pea coat for a modern-day Mary Richards of The Mary Tyler Moore Show look!

High/Low Tuxedo Denim Leggings by ZEZA B, Size 2x — Retail Value $58 (found here for $34.80)

My stylist, Stefania, is well aware of my love of skinny leg jeans and leggings, so I sense that is why she included these Tuxedo jeggings by ZEZA B! The fit of these pants is fantastic; they have ample stretch and really hug my body well. I also like the red tuxedo stripe detail. I do not, however, like the high/low cut on these. It looks like someone hack sawed these and couldn’t cut through the back bottom hem. I am certain I could have these hemmed so that I have an even hem, but I still opted to return these. These pants would look amazing with a button-down blouse and heels for the office or with a thick, cowl neck sweater and sneakers for a casual fall ensemble!

Genuine Calf Hair Loafer Flats by Steve Madden Size 9.5

Genuine Calf Hair Loafer Flats by Steve Madden, Size 9.5 — Retail Value $89.95

Stefania is also aware of my fondness for leopard-print everything; including leopard print shoes! I think hearts shot out of my eyes upon gazing at these beauties. These loafers have real calf hair on it and are incredibly comfortable. These shoes will pair amazingly with jeans and a sweater, a black bodycon dress and cat eyes, or with tight disco pants and a vintage t-shirt. These shoes are versatile which makes them a killer value, but I actually own a similar pair and had to pass on these for that reason.

Tie Dye Jumpsuit by GLAMOROUS, Size 20W — Retail Value $99 (found here for $59.40)

Are you guys getting a case of déjà vu? You should if you read my July Trunk Club review! Back in July, I was sent this jumpsuit in a size 22. I loved the piece, but felt it was way too big on me. My stylist was kind enough to include a size 20 in this month’s box. The fit is a definite improvement; it is less baggy than the size 22. The only negative I found is that it is a bit shorter in the smaller size. I decided to return the jumpsuit since summer is ending, but since it is on sale I just might have to snag it for Summer 2019! I styled the jumpsuit this time around with silver accessories (including a necklace from Jewelry Subscription: review coming soon!) and shoes.

Verdict: My stylist, Stefania, selected some wonderful pieces that truly fit my style and aesthetic! My favorite pieces were the leopard Steve Madden loafers, Sejour cutout top, City Chich dress, and the Michel Studio top as well. To be honest, the only piece I remotely disliked was the Sejour skirt and that was due to length and sizing. I love working with my stylist because she is consistently receptive to my feedback and is always willing to chat with me on the Trunk Club app. Heck, today I even sent her pics of items for inspiration for my upcoming box! I appreciate the great customer service she constantly provides me. Even though she has various clients she styles boxes for, she always is willing to assist me. I have worked in retail and customer service throughout my life and this kindness and dedication go a long way for me!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Trunk Club curates its boxes based on each individual’s preferences as well as what’s available. What you get might not be the same as what I got, but you also might get something that fits your style and body even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!

Value Breakdown: This box’s styling fee costs $25 and includes free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the nine items inside is $863.95. The cost of each item is listed alongside it above, but if I choose to keep anything, the $25 cost of the box’s styling fee would also be applied to the purchase. That’s an average $83.90 an item, which is on par with the brands included.

That first outfit with your accessories is EVERYTHING!

The jumpsuit has a very flattering neckline. It would be great to see it in a more fallish pattern.

Thanks, Angie! The majority of those accessories are from my latest CHC Review that should be up soon! Aren’t they fab?

Beautiful picture nicole, does the ckoyhes fit well and not too tight?

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole Rieder

Thanks, Toni. I am not sure what ckoyhes is! Maybe I am daft! What are ckoyhes?

Reply ButtonReply

Elizabeth

I think she might mean “clothes” instead of “ckoyhes”. You look gorgeous, by the way! (especially that jumpsuit!)
