The Bakery Box August 2018 Review

Ice Cream Sundae Decorative Body Butter, 2 oz – Retail Value $11

This body butter definitely smells sweet like ice cream! The body butter itself has a tendency to be greasy on my skin, so I recommend only using a tiny bit at a time or saving this for winter when your skin needs the extra moisture.

Chocolate Marshmallow Bath Whip, 2 oz –

Chocolate Marshmallow Bath Whip, 2 oz – Estimated Value $6

This silky bath whip is a cross between soap and body wash, and the creamy whipped texture makes it extra moisturizing. This would also work great as a shaving cream. Chocolate is the predominant scent, I don't really smell any marshmallow.

Chocolate Almond Body Mist, 2 oz – Estimated Value $5

This body mist smells heavy on the chocolate, not so much on the almond. The chocolate scent itself has a bit of an artificial smell to it that I do not really enjoy, but if you love chocolate scents you’ll probably feel differently.

Caramel Apple Roller Fragrance, 0.33 oz

This fragrance is made with jojoba and coconut oil and I found the scent to be light and pleasant. The apple scent adds a nice freshness to the sweet caramel scent, and it’s not overbearing.

Mini Cupcake Soaps, 6 ct

These mini soaps are cute, but I don’t really understand the purpose of them. Maybe I am not fancy enough. They have a sweet scent, but all I can really picture is how these would look drying on a soap dish. These would probably be really fun for younger kids who need more incentives to wash their hands, however!

Sweet Minis Chocolates & Strawberries, 5 ct

These wax melts are a new product offering from Shea Shea Bakery, and I think the wax shapes are really cute- the chocolates look like they were plucked right from a real box of chocolate! I found the chocolate scent to have that same artificial scent as the body mist, but the strawberry scent was yummy.

Chocolate Covered Pretzels

I was excited when The Bakery Box included macaroons in the macaroon box, but I don't feel the same way about the pretzels. Part of that reason is because of how long these were potentially sitting in the box. I got a shipping email that the label was created on August 21, but the package didn't start moving until a full week later on August 28 before it was delivered the 29th. It concerns me that these pretzels were potentially just sitting in my box for over a week, and there isn’t a lot of information on who made these pretzels and where. I think going forward if food is going to be included in the boxes they should be from licensed food retailers like the macaroons were.

The Verdict: Overall, I liked that this The Bakery Box included some new product offerings and a wide array of products. I don’t think they have ever included a perfume roller before, and the bath whip was a new product to me too. The chocolate-based scents weren’t really for me, but I have a friend who will be happy to give these bath products homes! For the price and the creativity, I think Shea Shea Bakery continues to be a good value bath and body box!

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Has anyone who subscribes to this box received a September box? I paid for one, haven’t received it, have emailed them twice.

No response, and their site doesn’t even list a subscription for me. I am kinda freaking out about this.

Just ordered another box. Don’t know if I’ll get it or not but I bet I’ve already been charged through Shopify.

Finally just got my box. Maybe hurricane weather was delaying here in NC. My body mist(which is why I ordered) smells of almonds and no chocolate! Not in a good way. So bummed. I will have to let the other items cool off before I try them. Also got a raspberry and strawberry in red color in the chocolate bag of melts.
Jessica, do you know if they hint at scents before the next box? This was August which I ordered on 8/31. Thanks.

What’s that square in the chocolate marshmallow whip?
Also I’d be afraid to get this box. Some of the stuff look so realistic I’d start questioning if it’s actually food or not! Likewise, I was skeptical about the pretzels being edible when I saw only the photos!

The square in the chocolate marshmellow whip is a little soap and she has everything clearly labeled whether it is edible or not.

I feel like the box was so much better than the reviewer gave it credit for! I think it was AMAZING! Maybe in the future it should be reviewed by someone who truly appreciates all kinds of chocolate scents (including artificial scents) though I must say they didn’t smell like artificial to me! And as for the little cupcake soap that is just adorable and smells yummy, they will make great decoration items when put in a dish in the bathroom!
If you love bakery scents don’t hesitate to get this box! I get about 22 subscriptions and this is quickly becoming my favorite out of all 22!
Oh and the pretzels were yummy!

Maybe I’m in the minority here but I don’t like my bath products smelling like food so I don’t think this box would be for me.

I personally thought this was a very innovative and beautifully sweet box. I get 4-6 bath boxes and this one is my very favorite every single month! 😉 I can hardly wait to get my boxes but your months never correspond to what they put on my cards. My card says this is the September box and that makes no sense as I got it on the last day of August and the other months have been off with the reviewer’s stated month by one month every month.

Has anyone else found this to be true? I’m wondering why mine’s messed up and how to fix it. Maybe it’s one of those ” it’s what’s inside that counts”. ” A rose by any other name…”

My pretzels traveled from Orlando ( their shipping location) to my location which is hotter than Lousiana just fine and were delish. Of course, I’m on a diet and they were close to my daily caloric intake, ha.

I have a beautiful wax burner which has been packed away for a long time because the wax melts went out of style. Now I have a reason to get it back out and use it. I hope so much these do smell like chocolate.

I put my soaps with the macarons from the other box with mini soaps in 2 antique bon bon dishes in guest en suite baths and they are so pretty and a bit whimsical at the same time, which is just my style. 😉

Lastly, I really appreciate that they formulate their own products, not cutting corners, and yeah, a ” chocolate and marshmallow” themed box IS going to smell like scent was added. Who on earth would expect a specific body product that has the scent of a food item ( in most cases) to use that actual food item or items?

I’d love to see this box get reviews here by a lover of scent and texture. It’s not at all fake-y like the reviews imply half the time or more.

Hi BB!
Thanks for your input!
My personal experience is that sometimes chocolate scented products smell so good I want to lick myself, and sometimes they… dont. An analogy off the top of my head is the flavor difference between sugar and stevia is how I compare some of the scents.
I hope this helps! As for your box, going by the Shea Shea Bakery instagram this box was the August box! Not sure why yours says September.

This box looks amazing… i thinkni want this box.

Hmm I could be wrong, but it looks like the ingredients for the pretzels don’t include what it’s dipped in? It looks like it’s just the plain pretzel ingredients.

Amber

Maybe the tiny cupcake soaps are meant for one-time use? how quickly do they dissolve?

I probably would have eaten the pretzels…I’m definitely not as discerning when it comes to snacks hahaha

I’d definitely say they are one time only use guest soaps. ;).

As someone who has 6 full bathrooms, I love all the guest soaps and guest powder room items they ( and FCS) send.
