Our Review
After Marne's latest CandyClub review, I was super curious to check out how the (more affordable) SugarlyBox compares. Is this the candy subscription we've all been searching for?
My first impression was that I loved the brightly colored packaging and the cute screw-top containers! The presentation and unboxing is a little nicer and more appropriate for gift-giving, in my opinion. I'm sure these containers could be re-used for other things, too.
Gummy Bears
First up, an assortment of brightly colored gummy bears. Not my personal favorite candy but the colors in these really appealed to me for some reason.
A couple of things I noticed as I started to actually unpack this box: 1, there was no nutritional info anywhere or any identification about the brand of the candy included. 2, the plastic containers are definitely smaller than they look from photos on the website.
Overall, I thought these were good! They tasted fresh and survived in shipping despite the heat we've had around here lately.
Blue Raspberry Belts
These are a candy I'm familiar with from previous candy subscriptions. They are definitely super sour; I can't help but make a sour-pucker-face every time I eat one.
Again - they're definitely fresh and seem to be the name brand variety, but I did kind of wish there was more info in the box.
Milk Chocolate Malt Balls
I actually used to think I hated chocolate milk balls, but my adult tastebuds must have matured at some point.
I am always pleasantly surprised when chocolate arrives in the mail unscathed! These were pretty much in perfect shape and tasted great too.
Finally, since SugarlyBox does reference a weight in their FAQ (1 pound for the 3 pack, and 3 pounds for the 9 pack), I decided to see if we actually received 1 pound of candy in this box. And... we did not. I weighed the candies combined instead of separately, and came up with about 11 ounces total not including the plastic containers. The overall cost per pound for this box ended up being comparable to Candy Club.
Verdict: SugarlyBox seems to have some pros and cons. In the Pros column: It's much more affordable ($11.99 + $5.50 shipping, or $17.49/month total), and I personally thought the presentation was excellent and more higher-end, making it more suitable for personal and corporate gifting. On the other hand: The containers are on the small side so they didn't meet the 1 pound weight stated in their FAQ, and the missing nutritional info seemed odd as well. There is also no customization with this subscription.
While this isn't a subscription I'd buy for myself necessarily, I think it could be a fun gift idea for the right person, especially if I didn't have time to buy and assemble something really cute on my own.
