SnackSack Classic September 2018 Review

SnackSack got a makeover last month! I love the greens and blues of the newer packaging! The pamphlet pictured above contains an abundance of information including social media handles, a “menu” for their three box options and some promotions to win snacks and prizes.

Every first-time subscriber receives a reusable bag, which is meant to hold all your snacks.

Now onto the goodies!

Bjorn Sun-Popped Corn, 1oz

Bjorn Sun-Popped Corn, 1oz - Buy a pack of 15 for $30

This sun-popped popcorn has such a unique taste! They use nutritional yeast, which is high protein and high B-vitamin seasoning to establish this savory, almost-roasted flavor, and I dig it! A lot of prepackaged popcorn tends to be too chewy or stale but Bjorn’s arrived very fresh!

Farmhouse Culture Dill Pickle Krout Krisps, 1oz - Buy a pack of 4, 5oz bags here for $13.61

What an awesome idea for a chip to have probiotics, and what an awesome chip! The chip is already sour from the cabbage, but the dill seasoning takes it right over the top. I ate the entire bag in one sitting, and I found myself wanting more. A bitey snack that supports digestive and immunity health? Yes, please!

Rise Buddy Sea Salt Baked Brown Rice Chips, 1.4oz - Buy 36 bags for $45

These rice chips are definitely more of a cracker. They are really crunchy and have a lighter, crispy texture, and the soy sauce taste comes off as more of a sesame flavor. All in all, they are a pretty good snack, but I don’t think I’d want to have more than a few at a time (might be a good thing!).

Super Snack Time Buffalo Pizza Style Jerky, 2oz

Super Snack Time Buffalo Pizza Style Jerky, 2oz - Buy 3 2oz bags for $14.99

This pepperoni jerky is bursting with spicy flavor! It takes a few bites to get used to the texture, which is more pepperoni-like than jerky, but it really tastes like you just ate a spicy pepperoni pizza. The only complaint I have is that the bag is not resealable -- definitely not a dealbreaker!

Deliciousness Honey Mustard Almonds, 3.75oz - Retail Value $5

I’ve tried to avoid mustard all my life, but I have always been the type to try anything once. And here I am trying honey mustard almonds! Sadly, they have not changed my no-mustard policy, but they really weren’t bad. My boyfriend, who loves all things mustard, said that they were a crunchy, delightful treat, and he especially liked the innovative rice cracker shell.

Sunrype Apple WIldberry Fruit To-Go Strips, .5oz - Buy a case of 55 for $44.93 (Found here for $33.33)

This fruit strip was very small and would be a great sugar rush for on the go. It contains a whopping 10 grams of sugar (yikes!) but only 45 calories. As far as fruit strips go, the flavor is tart and mouth-watering, but for as big as this treat was, I think 10 grams of sugar is too high.

Dipin Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, 1.42oz

Dipin Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, 1.42oz

This hummus and I did not see eye to eye. I was already apprehensive about this shelf-stable version, and red pepper is a flavor I do not particularly like. I dipped one chip into this hummus, and the flavor was just not there. In fact, whatever was there was bleak; sadly, it was not a match for my taste buds!

The Protein Ball Co Lemon + Pistachio Balls, 1.58oz - Buy a variety 12 pack for $22.98 (£17.99)

Cheerful lemon flavors always do it for me. I like the gimmick of protein balls, but six balls contain 7 grams of protein and 187 calories. I am trying to watch the calories/sugar I eat in packaged snacks, and this snack has too many calories for a small amount of protein. I could see these being a big hit for someone more carefree about calories, but for me, I’d rather just drink a serving of bone broth for 45 calories and 9 grams of protein.

Kpop Foods Sea Salt Seaweed Snacks, .18oz - Buy a pack of 12 5g bags for $8.99

I am fascinated with these crisp sheets of seaweed! They are satisfyingly salty and the oils have a bold savory taste, not to mention they are very fun to eat. So crinkly! Superfoods are not always enjoyable to eat, so I am always thankful when I find a winner.

Sheffa Foods Cafe Mocha Granola Bar, .85oz - Retail Value $1.09

In a blind taste test, I don’t know if I would be able to tell the difference between this bar and a Quaker chewy bar with a chocolate chip mocha flavor. It does have a nice hint of chocolatey coffee, and I love that it is gluten-free, vegan, and non-GMO. I am under the impression that most granola bars just have very similar tastes and textures. This one is definitely a more grown up, more evolved granola bar but a granola bar nonetheless.

Smashmallow Cinnamon Churro Smashcrispy, 1.15oz - Buy a 6 pack for $5

Yess! I love Smashmallow treats! I just bought some of their flavored marshmallows (which I love), but this soft cinnamon churro Smashcrispy is so cozy! It was the perfect size, and it wasn’t as sweet as a normal rice crispy treat. They also make Mint Chocolate Chip and Strawberries and Cream Smashcrispy treats, and I can’t wait to try them all! A++ in my book!

Janabanana Coconut Banana Bar, 1.34oz - Buy a box of 12 for $13.90

At first bite, I was not a fan of the texture of this bar, but I picked it up again the next day and really liked it! I love the ripe banana taste, with a few shreds of coconut here and there to add a little texture. There are 11 grams of sugar in this bar, but that was expected since there are two bananas packed into it.

Verdict: SnackSack always brings a fantastic array of salty, sweet and savory! I always look forward to trying new, healthy treats, and they do a really great job finding treats I’ve never heard of before.

Oh, those Rise Buddy snacks and the Sheffa bars are EVERYWHERE lately. I’ve gotten each in at least three boxes.

Wow, I’ve never seen/heard of them before! How did you like them?

I find the Rise Buddy snacks kind of plain, but I always seem to get the sea salt flavor, even though I’m pretty sure others exist. Wouldn’t mind getting a different flavor for once, the texture was fine.

I’m not a good judge of granola bars since I don’t eat them very often (I tend to go for KIND bars — the ones that don’t have grain — or protein bars, instead). I mean, I think the various Sheffa bar flavors are all right but I don’t get super excited about them but I honestly can’t say whether someone who is really into granola bars would feel the same way.

It may also be that I’m just losing enthusiasm for items I receive over and over again. I’m sure it’s an attractive deal to the box companies to include these items because they probably get these things free or cheap since the manufacturers are looking to promote.
