Pet Treater September 2018 Review
There’s not a traditional information card with this subscription so there’s not always a stated theme, but you will occasionally see some commonalities running throughout the box contents. This month, I honestly wasn’t sure, but then Nyx doesn’t care about themes:

There are sometimes advertisements in the box, as well that may or may not relate to the box contents. This month is for a treat mix from Whisk & Wag.
Whisk and Wag Peanut Butter and Berry Dog Treat Mix, 8.4 oz – Retail Value $9.99
You should know that you’ll get a lot of “make your own” treat mixes and supplies with this subscription. Here is a product that’s a new brand for me. This is free of wheat and corn as well as preservatives. It does contain soybean meal but it is sugar-free (unless the peanut butter included has sugar, which is not clear based on the format of the ingredients list). You do need to supply oil and water but that’s it. This has blueberries and cranberries which can be good for urinary tract issues (though honestly probably needed in greater amounts than included here).
Small Heart Cookie Cutter
This did not have a tag or label so I am counting it as being part of a set with the cookie mix. This is pretty small so it will work for dogs of different sizes. You could use the silicone baking dish from last month for your dog and use this heart to make cookies for yourself. Whatever works!
Emmy’s Gourmet Canine Creations Treat – Retail Value $1.35
You’ll get a cookie from Emmy’s Gourmet Canine Creations most months. I don’t know what this was supposed to be (a football, maybe?) because it arrived in fragments. Anyway, dogs won’t care if this is in one piece or five, and honestly, I’d recommend breaking these up before feeding to a pet anyway.
Pet Projekt Funchux – Retail Value $8
In true Amazon style, the pink one is less expensive than the blue or green one. Nyx doesn’t care about colors (and anyway, she’s a girl, so pink is fine!). This is a closeout item. We’ve been receiving a lot of Pet Projekt toys lately. Nyx was more interested in chewing on the nylon strap in the middle but I did convince her to play tug for a little while.
Tickled Pet Fish Skin Dental Chews, 2 oz – Buy 8 oz for $16.97
These are made from dehydrated wild caught Icelandic cod. They are pretty much just the skin, which is rich in omega-3 fatty acids (great for skin and coat issues, and in combination with glucosamine and chondroitin, may be good for joint health as well).
Original Territory Storage Tote
I don’t know how to value this because it is part of a set that got broken up and is currently out of stock at Petco (see here). This is a bin or tote that will be great for storing some of Nyx’s toys, though. I have a shelf I can put it on so she can’t get into it (so we will be using this one for the toys she can’t have while unsupervised).
Petrageous Designs Darcy Dog, 12” – Retail Value $4.50
This is size-appropriate for Nyx. Pet Treater is usually pretty good about that. It also seems fairly durable as we even played tug with it a bit (see below) and it held up to that. I only found this on a website that looks like it mostly sells closeout dog toys but the value listed *is* the price you would pay to order the same item.
Custom-Printed Tea Towel
This is the “for your human” item for the month, I guess. We received a similar item with a cat design in the Pet Treater Cat Pack this month. This one appears to have had a little hiccup during printing so there is a gap in the design. I am told these are good for hand-drying dishes but that is not something I do so I can’t tell you whether I personally think that is true. To me, personally, this feels cheaply made compared to tea towels I have in my kitchen.
Here are some pictures of Nyx with the toy. This held up surprisingly well to tugging.
Verdict: There were 7 items (counting the cookie cutter and mix as a set) in the September 2018 Pet Treater box, for an average value of about $3.57. I couldn’t find everything online (some closeouts, one item from a broken-up set, one custom item, etc.) so I didn’t try to calculate a total value. I feel that the contents of the box this month are representative of what you’d receive in a typical month. I think the toys were size-appropriate for an 80+ pound dog but would also work for 50-60 pound dogs. (Pet Treater is generally quite good about sending size-appropriate toys.) I had never seen the baking mix before and it is still in production so you can always order more if you want to, which is nice.
