Pearlesque Box September 2018 Review

brand info card

This month's featured brand is Magic Organic Apothecary! One side of the info card gives an overview of their story.

It all began in 2010 founder when Charlie Fowler started on a quest for healthy living following the birth of her daughter, who suffered badly with eczema. Having researched the alarming long-term effects of the petrochemicals being prescribed, it became the dream to produce a simple and effective organic balm to ease the itchiness and discomfort…The Green Balm was born!

On the quest for natural and organic ingredients she was drawn towards the ancient folklore of herbalism and introduced to the humble yarrow, a favourite amongst many herbalists, partly due to its array of powerful properties. With a background in art and design Charlie creates all the hand drawn illustrations, believing that the entire packaging of a finished product is as important as what’s inside.

The other side lists the products included, how to use them, and the retail price. They also include several #pearltips.

shipping delay note

This month there is a shipping delay on the bamboo cloth that was supposed to be in the box due to the hurricane. Obviously, it can wait while things are sorted out so it will be shipping separately as soon as they receive them.

Let's dig into the other items!

Magic Organic Apothecary Aphrodite Facial Oil back of Magic Organic Apothecary Aphrodite Facial Oil dropper for Magic Organic Apothecary Aphrodite Facial Oil

Magic Organic Apothecary Aphrodite Facial Oil, 1 oz. - Retail Value $33.89 USD

The featured ingredients of this facial oil (that comes complete with dropper) are rosehip seed oil, damask rose, rose geranium, and...marshmallow root?? What's that, I wonder? It sounds really fun. Their website describes it as "the root and stem of the marshmallow plant secrete a cooling mucilage, which helps soothe irritation and redness and hydrates the skin". Um, sounds awesome. The oil has a distinct rose scent and one single drop goes quite a long way. I was surprised to see how quickly my skin absorbed this and didn't leave it feeling oily at all. Coupled with the beautiful packaging, this has a really luxe experience.

Magic Organic Apothecary Dreamy Mineral Soak back of Magic Organic Apothecary Dreamy Mineral Soak Magic Organic Apothecary Dreamy Mineral Soak out of bag

Magic Organic Apothecary Dreamy Mineral Soak, 14.1 oz. - Retail Value $32.59 USD

Now that it's getting cooler, I'm going to be taking more baths so this came just in time. This bath soak is made with Himalayan sea salt, lavender, pine, and cardamom. It has an extremely strong pine/lavender scent when you first open the package that started to clear up my sinuses immediately. Visually, this is a stunning mixture with the different sizes of pink and white granules. Once plopped into warm water, they begin to dissolve and while the scent dissipates, the essence is still there, along with the benefits. This is really quite lovely.

Magic Organic Apothecary Green Fairy Absinthe Lip Balm opened Magic Organic Apothecary Green Fairy Absinthe Lip Balm bottom of Magic Organic Apothecary Green Fairy Absinthe Lip Balm

Magic Organic Apothecary Green Fairy Absinthe Lip Balm, 0.41 oz. - Retail Value $17.60 USD

Though I talk trash on receiving basic tubes of lip balm in random subscription boxes, this is a place where they are welcomed with open arms. The packaging is once again delightful and I love the little fairy on the tin! The cap unscrews to reveal a semi-sweet scent of aniseed which I normally don't like but totally works here. I love a balm that has a double-duty and this one not only moisturizes lips but also hands or other places that may need some softening once the cold weather rolls in.

Magic Organic Apothecary Green Balm directions for Magic Organic Apothecary Green Balm ingredients for Magic Organic Apothecary Green Balm opened Magic Organic Apothecary Green Balm

Magic Organic Apothecary Green Balm, 0.50 oz. - Retail Value $7.82 USD

Speaking of cold weather, the last item that came in the box is a purse-size container of their original product "The Green Balm". This all organic multi-purpose balm made with yarrow and tea tree oil can be used for a myriad of things from moisturizing dry hands, soothing skin problems, using on minor scrapes, or fresh tattoos. Although it's slightly greasy, like the facial oil, it absorbs quickly and is thinner than I was expecting. Again, this is cool since it has so many uses and is great to keep in your bag or first aid kit.

UPDATE: I received the delayed item on September 21st.

Magical Organic Apothecary BAMBOO FACE CLOTH inside HEMP BAG close up of Magical Organic Apothecary BAMBOO FACE CLOTH Magical Organic Apothecary BAMBOO FACE CLOTH Magical Organic Apothecary BAMBOO FACE CLOTH & HEMP BAG

Magic Organic Apothecary Bamboo Cloth with Hemp Bag - Retail Value $7.82 USD

I have to say, this item was what I was most excited about when the spoilers started rolling in because it's not often that something like this is included in a skin care box. The cloth is INCREDIBLY soft and made from 70% bamboo and 30% cotton. Bamboo fiber is naturally anti-bacterial which makes it the perfect cloth to use to wash your face or rinse masks off with. At 11 inches square, this bright white cloth is also plenty large to cover your whole face when using. Really excited to get this in my rotation. The best part is that it's also machine washable and the hemp bag is handy for toting it for travel (or to re-use elsewhere).

Verdict: I love the brand Pearlesque Box chose this month and found their dreamy folklore approach really fun. I liked getting a bath soak this month and am impressed with the facial oil and balm as well. The green balm is especially neat since it can be used in so many different ways. There's probably no way I would have ever come across MOA without Pearlesque which makes it an exciting discovery.

This box arrived at the perfect time. I’ve been sick so my nose was getting very raw and sore from using tissues so much. The green balm cleared that right up! I used the lip balm repeatedly from my lips getting so chapped and it really made a difference. Finally, I used that bath soak last night and the scent helped clear my sinuses a bit. A total win for me!

Something from this box may have hopped in your birthday box too 💕❤️🦄 I love the bath soak, even those it’s kind of expensive I think I’d purchase it. Cult beauty carries it so maybe when they have a goodie bag again!

I LOVE this subscription and this box was so much fun!! Props to the owner of the sub for getting things out of North Carolina and to the West Coast, boxed and shipped well. As you noted, the cloth will come later, and I’m sure it will be a fun addition to the brand’s very ” woodsy” theme.

I was happy to wait on one item instead of the entire box. The owner’s decision to ship out the box was extremely generous and nice for the subscribers, as she still has to make sure to put the cloths in next month’s boxes for this month’s subscribers. We know not all stay with a sub every single month, but this is one I won’t leave! 😉

I can’t use lavender in my products when it’s a main ingredient, and I still feel that I got a great box with a fun group of skin care items this month without the soak.
