Fortune Cookie Soap “Rydell Forever” September 2018 Review

This box comes with a mini handbook detailing the products, how to use it, the unique scent, and ingredients. New to the handbook is pricing details for each item! One thing of note: I have purchased from the Fortune Cookie Soap website several times, and all of the listed prices match up with what I have seen available for sale once the collection becomes available.

You’re The One That I Want Microdermabrasion Scrub, 2.2 oz. – Listed Value $14.99

This has a very light and pleasant scent of boysenberry, sandalwood, and apple, and I enjoyed it without being bothered having a fragranced face scrub. Where they say microdermabrasion, however, they mean it. This scrub really packs a punch, and I am hesitant to recommend it for sensitive skin types. The grit is very fine, and you can control the exfoliation by how hard you press, but I would still be very careful with this if your skin can be irritated easily.

Pink Ladies Wax Tarts, 3 tarts

Pink Ladies Wax Tarts, 3 tarts – Listed Value $4.99

These hearts in various shade of pink fit the pink ladies theme perfectly, and they smell great to boot. I love Fortune Cookie Soap’s wax, and this is actually the first time I have received some in a monthly box- I am stoked! These are designed to be used in a wax burner, and as they melt they will make the air smell like chamomile, lily, pink jasmine, and pineapple nectar.

T-Birds Shower Steamer – Listed Value $3.99

I love shower steamers and I think they are underappreciated in the bath and body industry - I was so happy to open up the box and see this! Like the wax, this was the first time I have received the product in the monthly box. This has scent notes of redwood, saffron, persimmon, and peach, and it made my shower extra soothing to have this dissolving while I tried to detangle the mess that is my hair.

Greased Lightnin’ Hemp Seed Leave-in Conditioner, 5.5 oz.

Greased Lightnin’ Hemp Seed Leave-in Conditioner, 5.5 oz. – Listed Value $12.99

Speaking of the mess that is my hair, this leave-in conditioner is designed to help me with all of those tangles. This is probably my favorite item in the box—not only does it smell amazing thanks to wood, bergamot, and cyclamen, it also really adds moisture and slip that helps to detangle hair and keep it tangle free. It is designed to provide moisture without leaving hair greasy, but I can’t really speak to that—it is essentially impossible for my hair to get greasy no matter how much product I put in it.

Summer Lovin’ Aloe Me Whipped Cream, 1.8 oz. – Listed Value $7.99

I never tire of seeing Aloe Me Whipped Creams in these monthly boxes because the formula is so amazing—it is a mixture of aloe vera lotion and whipped lotion that combines for ultra-hydrating and soothing moisture for your skin. Summer Lovin' is a sweet blend of banana, lemon zest, and golden beach sand. Sadly, I think this is the last Aloe Me I will see for a while—it is a summer product that Fortune Cookie Soap offers, and I believe they will be switching to producing their heavier lotions in the next month or so for the fall and winter ahead.

Tell Me About It… Stud Dry Oil Spray, 1 oz.

Tell Me About It… Stud Dry Oil Spray, 1 oz. – Listed Value 12.99

This dry oil spray is everything I want in a body oil. It smells amazing thanks to the blend of cranberry, orange, plumeria, mandarin, and musk, and it does a great job of providing moisture to your skin without leaving an oily or greasy residue. My favorite part is that I can literally spray it and go—I don’t even have to rub it in if I am in a hurry.

Sandra Dee Shower Smoothie, 7 oz. – Listed Value $15.99

This shower smoothie is so convenient—the thin nozzle opening makes it easy to squeeze and apply without having to deal with an unwieldy lid or jar. This is a thin consistency that spreads out well, and it left me feeling clean and smelling delicious thanks to the cotton candy, wild berries, champagne, raspberries, and cypress.

The Verdict: Fortune Cookie Soap Box is one of my favorite boxes to receive every month. I love the attention to detail in every aspect of the box, from the product descriptions and the designs of the products to the scents of the products themselves. I thought collectively this was a fun homage to Grease, too! If I had one complaint, I would say that I wish more of the scents were fall-focused. A lot of these scents were sweet and summery, and I am ready for a change of pace.

I ordered the one-time Halloween box. I know it’s a pre-order, but it seems like I paid so long ago.
Does anyone have any idea of when it will be mailed? Maybe Jessica?

Thanks, Amber!

I really liked this month! I was actually a little surprised how well the scents are suited (IMO) to the transition between Summer & Autumn!
This collection will also be the big, seasonal collection for Fall, so the extended collection will probably be a bit more extensive & last longer then the other monthly collections.

Jenn

they don’t do “big seasonal” collections anymore. Every month is a new collection, and they will usually do 1-2 restocks and then almost all of the products will be retired. (they usually select 1-2 items per collection to keep around)

dandydipity can you clarify whether or not you work for FCS ? Not because I think so but for the commenter that thinks you work for FCS and are posting here.

The dry oil spray can also be used in your hair. I wasn’t exactly thrilled by the theme but the way that it was executed made it great.

I was so happy to see FCS include some different products in this months box. They make such a wonderful array of products that I hope this continues!!

Anybody else sing the names instead of just reading them 😂

JESSICA, there is likely a fall- scented bath box headed your way. One word- ” Lavish”.
Perfection!!! 😉

Jenn

Omg Lavish is so good. I keep meaning to cancel because it’s pricey for me but then I can’t. I wish I could get 2!

I opted OUT of this box, not connecting the name to “Grease”, as I know the music very well but not the storyline at all. Just not my kind of thing, but
I still got a box, and I’m really glad. I like all the items and the scents.

*** I also very very much appreciate that there’s no mention of monsters, aliens, cyborgs or other “boy child creatures” this month*****!!

I AM opting out of October’s box… I’m getting 2 Addams Family boxes for Halloween instead. 😉 In my defense, I was a child of the 60’s and they were very cool, even in B&W TV. Put the Munsters to shame, LOL, but ” Dark Shadows” rocked our little girl Gothic fantasy lives forever.

I’d just about donate a kidney for a ” Dark Shadows” box. ( But- I am not a part of their FB group that ” votes” on the themes of some such.. or any FB group. DC’d FB long ago).

dandydipity

The FB groups don’t vote on themes. People are welcome to make suggestions to the group, & *sometimes* FCS asks for our opinions via polls, but much of the theme decisions come from FCS itself. There’s a group for general sharing & discussions and theres a separate group for spoilers, that’s how some people know ahead of time what the scents/theme are going to be.
For future reference, in case you want to opt out of a different month, be sure to remember that what you’re supposed to ‘skip’ is the payment month, not the box month. Just think of it as skipping the prepayment, which is always a month early (you pay for the Nov box in Oct).
For example, if you don’t want the November ‘Justice League’ box then you click the “Skip Next Calendar Month’s Box” button in the row with the 2018-10-10, and that action must be done before the 10th of Oct, or you’ll be automatically billed.

Being a part of the FB groups that FCS has, I want to defend dandippity here because the hardcore “Soap Ninjas” (yes, that’s what the devotees call themselves) know exactly how the company works because the company is really that transparent. And I love that about them. They treat their customers like family and include them in all the comings & goings, including when members of their team move on (I’ll miss Rachel!).

I think being a part of the FCS community is great. It’s a part of the reason why I’ve stuck with them exclusively for the past (nearly) 2 years.

Mandy

I think it’d be nice if an employee of a company would state that they’re representing the company when they come here and post.
No one other than an employee would respond in the way you have, and because you had false things to say about the box based on Grease, which was full of fruit and floral scented items not representative of fall at all ( not transitional, IOW) I’m cancelling my subscription.

Not the type of company I want to do business with!

Marilyn

Great review. I didn’t pick this month’s box, but I’ve ordered some. This is subscription where you can opt in or out based on the theme. However, you don’t know the scent or products that will be coming. I’d love a little more information leaked. I do think they are amazing in there ability to put together fun themed boxes!
I love the shower steamers too! And I think this month’s box really shows the unusual products that are part of FCS and so fantastic.

Anna

They always post the scents before the cutoff in their FB group FCS underground.

Jessica,
If you subscribed today the first box would be November since the cutoff is the 10th. The billing on 9/10 was for October.

I’m currently culling the vast amount of subscription boxes I receive, but I cannot bear to cancel FCS- it brings me far too much joy & I legitimately like the products I receive & have placed multiple orders from their site.
Great review!!

I have a similar mindset. The FCSotM box, although not necessary (especially since I already have so much of their product XD), is such a bright spot in the month. I always look forward to it (even if it means budgeting a little every now and then lol)
